I was just curious about this game and wondered if anyone's mapped this great Mario Kart game for the gamecube yet?
If this game's been mapped already, please forgive me for posting this topic, but if it hasn't been mapped, could someone map this game for those who enjoy this great racing game?
Thanks.

No it has not, it would probably have to be mapped the same way they did Mario Kart 64. So I guess a die hard fan of the series would have to take on this project.

I could see this happening without any major problems.
As far as I remember, MKDD models are stored as the "standard old" BMD. It shouldn't be a problem at all to:
- get iso
- extract contents
- unpack archives (if any)
- get BMDs
- use Thakis' BMD tools to convert them to OBJ/3DS
- fix
- render

it's cool so i can't wait to see who'd be up to the challenge of mapping this game for the rest of the mario kart racers out there.

Well, I just downloaded the GCM image of the game. I guess I'll be attempting this in the following days.
EDIT: Welp, I got the GCM, un-RARC'd the ARCs, got the BMDs...
But being a macfag, I can't take any step further. I know I've had BMDView2 in the past, but seems like it has disappeared off the face of the internet.
If anyone here has 3DSMAX with the BMD plug-in or just BMDView2, please help the cause by downloading this archive (http://dl.dropbox.com/u/12087633/ARCDIR.7z) I made and converting all the BMDs to a better format.

Someone on The Models Resource has actually recently submitted all of the courses (http://www.spriters-resource.com/community/showthread.php?tid=19419) in the game, including multiplayer courses, exported to OBJ format. Of course, there's vertex shading you'd have to compensate for, but it shouldn't be too bad.
In fact, if nobody else takes this before I finish Yoshi's Island, I might consider tackling this.
Also, glad to see you around, RS!

Oh! How convenient. Guess I'll dive into those.
Glad to see you too Peard :)

By the way, turns out those files you posted have the course mini-maps as BTI files. I plan to convert and submit them, and you're welcome to use them for any maps you do. ;)
Edit: Here you go! (http://www.mediafire.com/?o5w893ljklp5dnd) All of the track mini-maps and logos. I also submitted them (well, the maps) to Jon. Still need to do a bit of image editing to get the logo, though.
