Title: Star Trek (NES)
Post by: KingKuros on August 14, 2006, 09:46:56 pm
For the upcoming 40th anniversary of Star Trek, I'm now taking a shot at mapping this game.  Here's what I have so far of the first planet you beam down on.

You have to use your forum gold to "buy" links and images. Then you use < link > url < /link > and< pic > url < /pic >

The second picture, of the wood, looks extremely nice. It makes me want to play the game. Is it an RPG game?

It's sort of like an RPG when you beam down on a planet. There you can (as Captain Kirk) talk to NPCs as well as your crew members, and also collect and use items.

Here is another area on planet Masaba (the first planet you beam down on).

The maps themselves are cool, but at the same time, the game's graphics don't look that good. I remember when Nintendo Power featured the game, I found it pretty primitive. I'm curious to know if the game is any fun to play though.

What made this game interesting for me is there are many planets to beam down and explore.  Only 4 of them are required to complete the game.  The rest of them are either barren or uninhabitable.  I never found a way to get to those in Romulan space.

Are you going to map those planets that *aren't* requried to complete the game?

I'm not sure there is any point in doing that.

I, for one, would like to see them, especially if they're as good looking as the ones you've already made.

I've always thought of these maps as an actual atlas for the video game - that is, they show not only where you want to go, but also all the places you can go.  If you want to completely map out a game, it makes more sense to me to map everywhere you can go, not just where you need to go in order to beat the game.  I can't really think of anything else to say, really :P

Good job KingKuros. I agree with Dan that this will make it more like a real map atlas to the game's universe. When sending the maps to JonLeung, I think it would be good to mention those maps which are completely useless to visit, just so that gamers don't waste their time going there.

I'm looking foward to the maps of Sigma Iotia II, both in the present and the past.

Except for planet Iotia, I have everything else done.  I'll post the map images soon.

Cool. I guess that only leaves the buildings of Past Iotia then?

I sent the Star Trek maps about 2 days ago after coloring the backgrounds and a few other touch ups.  In time for the 40th anniversary.
