Title: Genesis Mapping for An Old Time Mapper...
Post by: bruplex on October 20, 2016, 03:15:40 pm
Hello,
I've been using the site for years but finally decided to sign up. I made game maps a good 10 or 15 years ago, using what I assume is the rather archaic method of stitching together emulator screenshots in Photoshop. I got the itch to make some maps for Blades of Vengeance for the Genesis and I would guess there are much easier ways to make a map than the old fashioned way. I'm competent in Illustrator and Photoshop, but not sure what would be the best emulator to snag map info for the Genesis.

Any links to helpful topics / tutorials would be greatly appreciated!

Cheers -

I think what you are looking for is a tilemap viewer to what MAME has but I dont think anyone knows of such a program or if it even exists for the genesis.
the best emulator for doing maps would have to be gens-rerecording because it has the option "pink background" to turn the transparent layers pink insted of black as well as sprite & BG layer selection and cheat code input. for cheat cods go to http://gamehacking.org/
Another program you can use is http://www.smspower.org/maxim/Software/ScreenshotAutostitcher

good luck

The technology hasn't really come along, there are a few programs for stitching screenshots from video but otherwise you just have to do it by hand. Sega consoles tend not to have much in memory that isn't on screen so there aren't many tile map viewers.
