Title: Granada (Sharp X68000)
Post by: DarkWolf on August 29, 2006, 10:38:36 pm
I know I've already done this for Genesis, but I was able to find the level locations in the emulator's memory dump, so I've decided to do these as well.  Plus, so far they make the Genesis ones look like crap. =/

Man, I just can't understand how people can so easily dump memory and tiles and just, you know, extract entire levels so effortlessly it seems. I'm really jaleous by the way.

Hmmm, this may have to wait until I learn what an X68000 is and make a new Atlas page for it.

The X68000 was a Sony computer system exclusive to Japan I think. I know this because 'Castlevania Chronicles' on the Playstation is a port of the exclusive X68000 Castlevania game called simply 'Akumajou Dracula'. The Playstation remake added new cutscenes and new sprites for Simon Belmont and Dracula, but otherwise the two are identical. In addition, the game is, like Super Castlevania IV, yet another remake of the first CV game.

Oh and Darkwolf, you really need to teach us how to extract map and tiles like you seem to do so easily ;)

Yeah, I'd be interested in knowing that too. Do you just save the state and browse it in a hex editor until you find some pattern you recognize from the level? I tried to do something like that once, but it didn't work. Of course, I have no experience in that sort of thing.

yeah, if we knew how to find the level data in save states or the roms themselves, mapping simple games would be much faster. But I also do not know what to look after. I wonder if it is possible to learn that task without having much experience in that sort of things.

I'll try to write a small tutorial when I can.  Honestly, for this game the locations almost fell into my lap.

I just got an internship, which will suck up 25 hours a week, but it's a step in the right direction in my personal life, so I'm not complaining.

DarkWolf, do you have a title shot?  They're up, but I'm currently using the Genesis title...

Just small details, mainly around the center on a vertical axis.
