I just wonder how the heck he calculates everything so that it will result in a such a realistic fake perspective when viewed from one specific angle.

I like that they've included some photos of those at the wrong angle.  It might be neat to see a video of someone walking around the artwork, to see it go from a wrong angle and slowly "form" when the view comes around to the correct angle.
