Nice video.

I was thinking the other day, that probably the best way to update would be to turn it into a wiki.  Users would be able to update their photos for games when they want & organize them as they see fit.  Also, keep the forums around.

Also, I was thinking that for most images, instead of using a desktop program to minify them, you can upload them to google photos, one folder at a time.  Download the minified photos, delete them from google photos & move on to the next folder.

Your site might be small enough to fit on google sites.

Storage and file limits

For Sites created under

Site quota: 100MB/site
Max attachment size: 20MB
Pages per site: No set limit (see note below)

Gamefaqs would probably be your best bet or giantbomb.

Click images for the game you want and usually you can find them right there near the top.
4  General Boards / Mapping Tips/Guides / Something to try for image smushing on: October 07, 2014, 02:16:34 PM

Basically, you install wordpress and point it to a folder to optimize.  I think this can be done in 2 ways.  Optimizing locally or with a paid cloud service.... which I haven't looked into the paid option yet.  Just happened to stumbleupon it today and it reminded me of vgmaps, it might be a good choice to help cut down some of the image sizes.  No need to even keep WP installed after it's finished since that's all this mod requires to run.

I've been checking out jpegmini.  If you use the desktop app you can do 20 jpegs a day with the free version.
However you can also register and upload jpeg files to a album after you zip them.  That will put them in the server quo to be crushed, you can download the crushed images after it's done too.  So far it looks pretty good.  I'm considering upgrading for $20, however... it's limited to 28 MegaPixels unless you plop down $150... in which case it can handle up to 50 MegaPixels...

So long as you apply this before stitching maps together it should be a very valuable tool indeed!

Some of your maps are massive Zerker.. I've tried to crush some of your ultima VII maps but pnggauntlet takes forever! Wink

Also here you go, here's some optimized images for your page

Click on the optimize images tab to grab them!

Thanks, I suppose the style of xnview generated pages make it feel like 90's software but it's actually updated frequently.

Not sure what you mean with server side code unless you're talking about coding a custom software to do it..  Frames... Yeah they don't necessarily need frames but I was testing out xnview to try to get some feedback on it lol.  I have found several good photo galleries from joomla but my issue with those is like with the vbulletin gallery, it doesn't let you see the image in full resolution unless you open the image in a new tab.

I've also been playing around with the now free Microsoft Expression Web.  It's a great wysiwyg tool and pretty unique in that you can move elements around as you please, like moving around pictures to somewhere else & easily linking them.

May not be the prettiest but this would help for system navigation.

I remember people saying some of the pages were slow and it needs a new layout to help ease the loading times.  Also I remember a statement from Jon I think, along the lines of it's important that people get to what they want as fast as possible.

I'm testing out xnview and it's create webpage mode, I also have a different layout in mind for system & game navigation.  Anyways how does xnviews thumbnail to full picture look to you guys?  Does it help you find what you're looking for faster?

Does anyone remember which Issue of NP has the question along the lines of:

Where do you use the rainbow drop & staff of rain?

I remember sending this in to them & seeing it in a later magazine in the Counselor's Corner section but for the life of me can't remember which one it was.

Seems that he's still at it, one of his more recent postings a few month's back.

well they haven't done anything about Jon Leung of VGMaps, he does copyright infringement all the time of Sega games!!! Hopefully Sega will shut VGMaps down and stop Jon Leung!

So what happened to that domain?  Looks to me like they sold it.
14  General Boards / Mapping Tips/Guides / Re: Recommended programs to assist your mapping on: January 01, 2013, 03:09:53 PM
Most of the files are in .png format anyways.  Also, I prefer these tools even though they convert to png, pngoptimizer does it automatically anways.... and it sends gif files to .apng format.

If WebP had a GUI for windows, then I would definitely be looking forward to that.  I have found some converters that do convert to webp format, albeit an earlier version of webp before google optimized it later on for better file size & quality.  If I could find a webp converter to the updated webp image format, I'd love to try that out.

I've been using PngOptimizer a bit lately and like pnggauntlet it optimizes png's to a lossless format while cleansing out bad/unneeded data.

Since this program doesn't handle jpg files, I use jstrip first, then convert them to png with pnggauntlet & finally use pngoptimizer on them.  I find pngoptimizer to be much faster than pnggauntlet.

I've grabbed roughly 25,527 files, mostly images from this site using softbytelabs blackwidow to test these tools on.

Right now the images are using a total of 8.37 GB (8,990,199,585 bytes).  I'll post back the results of optimizing them all with the above tools.

After clearing out some trash files (blackwidow made a bunch of copies of index pages) and running the tools on some files in the atlas folder, it's now at:
21,593 files
6.53 GB (7,021,207,557 bytes)

Even still I'm nowhere close to being finished yet especially with the super large maps in the PC folder... one is over 70 MB!
