Map Gab / So I am working to do Super Mario 64 (hand drawn of course)
« on: June 06, 2013, 08:42:21 am »
I wasn't sure how well I would pull this project off, but surprisingly it's going fairly well. My only problem I have left is Course 3, 4, 12 and 14, which is driving me nuts. I've tried different approaches, and just when I think I got it, something snags up!

Here's the problem:
Course 3: Believe it or not, the water is my enemy here. Trying to control Mario long enough while drawing the underwater areas is somewhat tricky to do. Atleast I got the secret cavern out of the way though.

Course 4 and 12 (since they are both mountain areas): I'm trying to do a top down tactic (start from the top and spiral downwards to the bottom), but all the hidden areas under certain parts of the mountains are causing me problems.

Course 14, I'm trying to do a bottom up tactic, but that's kinda getting tricky. Not sure why because I was able to do it in Course 7 pretty good. I might have an idea on what to do with this, but I still need to test it.

Map Gab / Re: A map from every letter of the alphabet

Here's a question. While it's good to get every letter, what about every number? Or would A number suffice for a full completion?

Not bad! I was gonna try and map out the game myself, but I couldn't figure out how to even play the game in order to do it lol.

Saw a video on Youtube that someone custom made Booster's Tower on Minecraft. It was pretty nice looking and gave the layout awhole new perspective.

_09, Star Fighters 76, already a contributor here of course, but lately he wants you to get his maps off GameFAQs yourself so I may have a few you don't.  Of course you could just go to GameFAQS.

First off, sorry about the troubles you are going through.

However, I'm rather curious about this. Since I've hit 1,000 maps (on GameFAQs) 2 years ago, I've been in and out of the game mapping field, mostly because of being in school (and more recent, a really tragic accident I incurred myself). I honestly don't remember anything about this, but I won't object to it happening of course (VGMaps is a great mapping site). You probably go by another name that is more familiar to me :)

I know it's been several months since the last post, and I'm sure the TC got their questioned answer, and I do apologize for the bump, but I still feel as if I should give my advice on the situation.

On the countless amount of maps I've made, there has never been an over-abundance amount of connecting points and items/points of interest at the same time. Knowing that, I consider the game I'm mapping, and decide which would be better to use for connecting points and which would be better for items. If I know a game is gonna have much more items than connecting points, I use numbers for items and letters for connecting points. If the situation was reversed, it would be letters for items and numbers for connecting points. Now if I know there is gonna be a fair balance between the two, then it really depends on what you feel like.

On the off-change I decide to go against this, when using letters for items, I get all the way to 'Z', then use lower case, because so far I have not reached the point where I need 52 letters (both upper and lowercase) for items (I save that for numbers).

As for this situation, I would have went with numbers for connecting points, it's a lot less of a hassle in the long run (especially since you were wondering if you should use double letters). Letters in this case should have been left for items/points of interest.

This of course is just my opinion :)

I know this isn't about game mapping, but it is about the 8-bit NES and maps in general. Check this out nonetheless lol

Apparently GameFAQs, and thereby GameSpot, would suffer because of this since it would ban things like screenshots and gameplay video.  If they're going to go as far as that it looks like every video game fan community would be driven underground, not just pirates.

As a massive contributor on GameFAQs myself, I am extremely worried about the nearly 1,100 maps I've done. This whole SOPA deal is getting out of control, and it needs to end.

I didn't care for the Super Mario Brothers cartoon portion. I mean yeah it was okay, but it was more of a parody and only had literally a few episodes that stuck to the main plot. That's what I love about Super Mario Brothers 3 and Super Mario World cartoons. Still goofy, but they kept the story closer to the games (especially with "Mama Luigi" from SMW, bridging the gap between SMB3 and SMW, made for a decent series ender).

I'm working on the dungeons (and some specific overworld areas), and I figured I would take on the challenge of making the entire overworld map. Took about a few weeks to put it all together. Now I'm working on the Dark World stuff. ^_^

And sure, go ahead and post it with the rest of my stuff, if you don't mind it not being labelled. :)
