Message Board Help / RE: Site takes forever to load.

If I'm using a dial up modem I have the problem of it taking forever.  However with high speed it is no so bad.  I have never had it crash my browser or computer before.  I use Firefox.

Yea, the need to find a better compression for parts of the frames that are the same in animations.  However I like the idea of being able to use transparencies as well as not being limited to 256 colors.  It will be nice when a new improved standard comes around and officially replaces the animated gif.

Actually, that project is on hold for now while I'm working on other maps.  I will get back to it at some point, but it may be a while.  Currently I'm working on maps for Doki Doki Panic (The Japanese game that was turned into Super Mario Bros. 2 in the US).

I never heard of APNG before, is it a web standard?  Will all the web browsers display it?  I know formats like .tif are not web standards so not all browsers will display them.

I believe that just a simple map done in flash with some simple animations should not take up that much processor power.

You could make one map that way and see how much it uses and have some friends check it out on different operating systems before you decide if you will do the rest of the maps in flash or not.

I was lucky when I was writing a FAQ for Seiken Densetsu 3 I was in college and I had a Japanese housemate who was able to give me the actual names of towns and items.  You just need to find a friend from Japan and rent him a room in exchange for translating the games :)

If you have Flash, and now how to use it, that would make the maps look great in whatever browser people used, and you could do the transparencies.  You could also do layers in Flash.

Back in the day I fell in love with Final Fantasy II (IV) on the SNES.  I wanted more, but there were no more Final Fantasy games on the SNES at that time.  I was so desperate, I bought the Japanese Final Fantasy V.  I did not know any Japanese, but I was able to make it all the way through the game.  It took around 200 hours.

As long as you can post messages I will be happy.  It is nice to be able to see how long a person has been around, but other the other stuff I don't feel is necessary.

Maps In Progress / RE: Doki Doki Panic (Super Mario Bros. 2 USA)

I got some of the sprites up that are different from SMB2, I will add to the list as I go through the game.  Here is a link to see the sprites of the ones I'm not 100% sure on the names:

Maps In Progress / Doki Doki Panic (Super Mario Bros. 2 USA)
« on: July 17, 2009, 05:56:28 pm »
Hi, I was going to start making maps for Doki Doki Panic.  I was wondering if anyone knew official names for items in that game or know of a website that lists the items and what they are called in that game.  So far I' guessing:

Magic Potion = Magic Lamp

Mushroom = Heart

Turtle Shell  =  Clown Head

So far I have just mapped the first level and those are the items I came across that are different from SMB2 USA.

Thanks for any help.

Gaming / RE: What Games Are We Playing
« on: July 15, 2009, 08:49:59 pm »
I have been playing Dragon Quest VIII on the PS2, I'm almost to the end.  Then I plan on doing the .Hack games next on the PS2.  I beat the first game, but have not yet played any of the others in the series.

On the PC I have been playing Plants Vs. Zombies.  That game cracks me up :)
