Maps In Progress / Re: YK's random map progress thread

I... suddenly reappear again.

Is anyone doing Cosmo Police Galivan for NES? There are... a lot of active threads, and going through them all would take a while, so... just asking here first. I decided to give the game a try, and it seems pretty interesting and easy enough to rip. If someone's already taking this game on, no big. I just want to know so I don't duplicate anyone's efforts. :P

Just out of curiosity, and... not to be rude or anything, but... is there some reason my Castlequest map hasn't been added yet? Is there a part of the submission process I'm missing? I know it's been...quite a while since my last submission, so I admit I may have forgotten...

Whoa. I've returned after... like, more than a year. :P

With this: http://snesmusic.jukor.net/maps/CastlequestMap.png

I have a bit of a love/hate relationship with Castlequest. I've never managed to beat this game, and it's very, very annoying and confusing. But it fascinates me so, for some reason I can't quite explain.

Anyhow, I noticed there was a map for the Japanese MSX version, but I didn't see one for the NES version, so I figured I'd put one together. Fortunately, the mechanics of the game (each time you enter a room, the game pauses and allows you to look around it) made ripping it easy enough.

I ripped all the tracks from Lodoss War but what do I do with them now?  I don't know how to time and tag or anything else.

I can handle that part easily enough. What I'd need at bare minimum would be track titles (which you seem to have provided nicely) and ideally who composed the music. Also, do you want me to credit the set to Tropicon or Trop?

Ooh that's a spectacular collection.  It looks like somebody did Grandia too but what format is GMS?  Is that something I need that vgstream for?

Yeah. Many of the soundtracks there are in assorted streamed formats, so yes, you'll need VGMStream. To that end, though, they, for the most part, work well.

I noticed at SNESMusic nobody did Record of Lodoss War so I thought I'd rip it as I play through the new translation.

Oh, cool. I was considering going through it, but if you are... that means I don't have to. :P

Also, if you want ripped game music... http://hcs64.com/mboard/forumlong.php?showthread=26929
...you're probably not gonna find a better collection of it than this!

Hah, no I meant they have a request system.  Here I posted it for you:
http://gamehacking.org/requests&p=10

When the request disappears that means it's been filled and you can just check that's games page for the code.

Ooooh. Heh, that's pretty neat. I had no idea that existed. Thanks. :)

You could request a WTW at gamehacking.org.

I could... but I'm kind of an...awkward person, and it just doesn't feel right to register at a forum just to start making requests. I've also been part of communities where requests will get you ripped in half, so I'm understandably a bit hesitant...

Since everyone else seems to have one of these progress threads, I figured I may as well, too, to avoid cluttering the forum. Moving my other recent post here:

SaGa Frontier is another of my personal favorite games. Very underrated. And I'd like to map it out.

I actually have a little experience mapping this game, having mapped out various unused areas for the Cutting Room Floor back when I was active there. It's not much harder than an SNES game, by and large, and I have map modifier and walk through walls GameShark codes that can help.

I'm not sure how feasible mapping out the *whole* game will be, since I'm not sure how I'd disable sprites (since I need to use cheats, I'm pretty much limited to ePSXe, the only emulator I'm aware of that supports them), but I'll do what I can.

Another game I'd like to take on is Wild Arms. The area select debug menu would make getting around to each map easily enough, but without a walk through walls code, there's no way I'd be able to get everything. Especially those elusive inaccessible islands on the Elw Dimension overworld map.

You planning to do FF5 at some point? It looks like you did a couple early game maps from it, at least. And you've done FF6 and both versions of FF4, so it'd make sense. At any rate, your FF4 and FF6 maps are pretty high quality stuff. I particularly love maps that have treasures marked.

Incidentally, unrelated, but... how in the world did you manage to map out the Lete River on FF6? The layout of that place has had me completely baffled for years. Even looking at the map, I can't make sense of the place. :P

You know, I never gave it much thought... are there any actual area design differences between FF4 and "FF2" other than the Beginners' Hall in Baron, the removal of the Programmers' Room in the American release, and the contents of chests changing? (And the chests themselves in high tech areas, as well as save points, being changed.) Any extra rooms, rearranged dungeons, added/removed secret passages, etc?

Heh. I hear you about things being slow. It's been near-dead at the SNESMusic forums for quite some time, as well. We actually have quite a number of SPC sets dumped, but not tagged. I'm hoping that'll pick back up eventually, too.

Hah! What a surprise to see you here, old friend. Seems I'm always running into people I know; small internet and all that, I guess. I just registered here myself not too long ago, but it seems like a pretty friendly place.

Hoo. Phantom 2040... I tried tackling this game a while back to identify SPCs we ripped from it via a music modifier code... Even following an FAQ to the letter, I got hopelessly lost really quickly, putting a swift end to *that* project. It's quite the beast. I can't even imagine trying to *map* it, too...

...wow, awesome. I... did not expect to get Maps of the Month honors, much less so quickly!

I'm not sure what else I can rip, offhand, since most of the games I've played have already *been* ripped. I'd kinda like to do Final Fantasy Tactics one day, since that's a "spiritual sequel", but... with its maps being rotateable, that would be a fair bit tougher. Hm. Well, we'll see.

(Also, you typoed my nick the second time in that description. :P)
