I have started to map out Bubsy for the SNES. The plan is to initially go through and map out all the chapters without the enemies then go through a second time to include all the little details (enemies/yarnballs/etc.). Any feedback would be great!
Thank you!

You are pretty courageous to take on that game!
Are you using some kind of cheat codes to control the camera or reach out of bounds? It looks like you're not leaving any area unexplored Can't wait to see more!
-
Thanks! It's been a fun process so far.
I'm using midair jump cheat and then using GIMP to fill in the spots i can't see such as floors and deep underground textures. So far it's been enough, but lets see what happens in Carnival stages.

I've now added the first pass up to Area 4. I hope to have the last few areas down by the end of September and then start to map out the bonus rooms.
I do have a question. How does one handle dynamic maps? Such as a lever lowering or raising water. Do you make two versions of the map or add the changes in transparent form?
Thanks for any feedback.

That's a very good question to which there is unfortunately no universal answer. I used to be sure how to handle such cases but the more maps I made, the less certain I became.
Nowadays, if at all possible, I would try to do two maps: 1) the initial state as you first encounter it and 2) the finished state where everything has been changed/destroyed/revealed. I would personally try to avoid or limit instructions depicting how the changes are caused but that's mostly because I prefer aesthetic maps. Your mileage will vary if you're trying to make a visual walkthrough.
If the map is really simple though like an area with a few hidden paths, I'd probably make a single map with the hidden paths visible because the initial map doesn't depict a different state, just an incomplete one.
I hope I'm not leaving you with more questions than you had before!
-
Thanks that helps a lot! I also prefer aesthetic maps so I think I will go that route and make two maps.

I finally had the time to start getting those bonus levels. I've been learning how to make cheat codes and it's making it much easier to map these levels. I might get all the bonus levels done in the next 2 weeks or so.

Sorry to resuscitate this from long inactivity, but, I am delighted to see Bubsy's maps here. The one thing is they've still yet to be uploaded to the SNES section of the Atlas. I've looked, many times.
Hope it gets done soon.

I got a hold of beltran63 via email!
Though he had intended to add items and enemies and water effects, he has not been able to make the time to do so, and at this point, will not do anything more with them. The landscapes/layouts for all stages are complete, so they still could be of some use.
He is fine with me publishing them as they are, so I will do that soon.

Okay, the maps are now up here (https://vgmaps.com/Atlas/SuperNES/index.htm#BubsyInClawsEncountersOfTheFurredKind).
Thanks, beltran63!

Stopped by to say, many thanks, beltran63, for having the game's maps uploaded.
As a strong Bubsy fan, I have to say, it was about time that got done after waiting a long while. That'll help out many that had trouble getting through each level. And, with Bubsy's "Purrfect Collection" coming up, what better time to do it than that before its launch?

Funny you should mention that... there is actually a related reason why I looked into these Bubsy maps... ;)

You're quite spot on. You know, I could think that collection would've had the often regarded entry from the Atari Jaguar, "Fractured Furry Tales", but, right now, it doesn't. I felt a bit awful it didn't sell many copies, and, well, not many people heard of it and didn't got much attention until quite lately. That game had some good speedrun videos some people made.
I never actually played that game myself, because, I never got the chance to. Looked like a good game, aside from the changes and improvements from "Bubsy II" not seen there. Read that game's source code was brought from the Genesis version and ported there before adding in new enemies, levels, and so on.
If FFT had a chance of being ported into the collection, I hope it'd be during development or in a patch later on. I'd be all over doing that game to see how challenging it was. If only someone could take the time to do it someday.
If anything, from my perspective, Bubsy FFT could've had an actual boss theme for each boss, and one more level having an actual final boss at the end, the true main villain responsible for twisting the fairy tales to his or her liking and messing up children's stories, which Bubsy could defeat and truly save them all.
To let you know, I spotted only one map about the game at AtariAge Forums posted by the game's programmer, Andrew Seed, no joke, but that map's a bit too small to see, 'cause the size was made smaller instead of full size to adhere to image size limits there. It's only the 2nd level of the 4th world, Waterbubsy, "Bubble Trouble", incorrectly labelled as "Bubsy 4C". Should've been "Bubsy 4B". No other maps have been made nor seen since.

There's a video interview I've found on YouTube about FFT's process conducted by Doctorclu with the game's producer, Faran Thomason. Doctorclu also did many speedrun videos about FFT. You should see some of 'em. That guy really did good, aside from some blunders trying to finish faster.
He also said in his recent forum post there, "Since that time, great efforts have been made for mapping Bubsy FFT, and people have been playing, so I'm sure that will change soon. Good to see FFT getting some love.". Sounds like he wants that game mapped to give that game more attention to the people. Would really help plenty of Bubsy fans having trouble with it. Really.
I only found that post lately while looking and felt that should be brought to your attention.

Apologies for bringing this up from inactivity, but I wanted to give a heads-up about, Fractured Furry Tales.
A user on The Spriters' Resource, named Ragey, took the time to rip and upload most of the game's sprites, including all of its enemies and bosses! Well, "Most", being the keyword.
Besides the game's maps still yet to be seen in full, I can only guess the backgrounds are yet to be ripped and seen.
Honestly, I'm astounded that game's sprites got some attention and someone took on that task where others didn't.
To anyone wanting to see them, as proof, the link to the game's sprites uploaded to that site is right here - https://www.spriters-resource.com/jaguar/bubsyinfracturedfurrytales/
Perhaps doing that gave that game some more attention, and it's nice it needed some more. Give thanks to Ragey for the work done.
