ORIGINAL POST:

G.E.R. mapped about 1/3 of the Genesis Mini, and has since requested a topic for the games on the Genesis Mini 2.  If a request topic is what is necessary to keep up the momentum, then here this is!  This time around, besides the Genesis games, included are some Sega CD games, and various bonus games (enhanced or previously unreleased).

I whipped up that list quite quickly, so it's quite possible I made some errors and I didn't have time to look into some details.

-Like how/if the Genesis and Sega CD versions of the two Ecco The Dolphin games are different.
-Or how the bonus games are enhanced, and if the Space Harrier II maps we have count, or if the enhanced version needs its own maps.
-It looks like Rainbow Islands Extra is a Japanese Mega Drive game.  Haven't checked to see which other games, if any, are not originally North American releases.
-Not sure if the green "O"s (to mark completed map sets) are all correct.  Also have some blue "?"s for some that I am not sure if they are actually complete.

If any Genesis fans see any errors to be corrected or things to be tweaked in the listing, definitely feel free to let me know.

I'm pretty sure both versions of the first Ecco the Dolphin game are a bit different, with the CD one featuring extra stages. However, I was never a big fan of them so I can't say if stages common to both are identical or sometimes a bit different.

Yeah, this will motivate me to do at least Vectorman 2, and maybe something else from the list.  :D

Desert Strike is complete, there's really only 4 levels, unlike its sequels.

Thanks, John Brain!  Your submission of a map set for Vectorman 2 (https://vgmaps.com/Atlas/Genesis/index.htm#Vectorman2) gets us moving!
We've started off on this trajectory for more Genesis maps!  (There's a geometry/physics reference in there somewhere, I'm sure.)

Is Vectorman one of those characters we haven't heard from in a long time?  Is the character just done?  No talks of any rerelease or reboot/remake/remaster/whatever?
Good to preserve what there is of his adventures, then.

I can tell that something has awakened in G.E.R., as evidenced by submissions of eight games on this list, in a single day!

We've now got complete maps for Alien Soldier (E) (https://vgmaps.com/Atlas/Genesis/index.htm#AlienSoldier), Atomic Runner (https://vgmaps.com/Atlas/Genesis/index.htm#AtomicRunner), Clay Fighter (https://vgmaps.com/Atlas/Genesis/index.htm#ClayFighter), Elemental Master (https://vgmaps.com/Atlas/Genesis/index.htm#ElementalMaster), Hellfire (https://vgmaps.com/Atlas/Genesis/index.htm#Hellfire), Herzog Zwei (https://vgmaps.com/Atlas/Genesis/index.htm#HerzogZwei), and Midnight Resistance (https://vgmaps.com/Atlas/Genesis/index.htm#MidnightResistance).
As well, we've got a start on Rainbow Islands: The Story Of Bubble Bobble 2 - Extra Version (J) (https://vgmaps.com/Atlas/Genesis/index.htm#RainbowIslandsStoryOfBubbleBobble2ExtraVersion).

It's a nice variety of genres, and we also have vertical maps, horizontal maps, square maps, and in the case of Midnight Resistance, the entire game in a single image.

After much silence on this topic (over a year since the last submission!), it's nice to see this batch of games mapped for VGMaps.com.  Thanks so much, G.E.R.!

G.E.R. churns on with more, by completing Rainbow Islands: The Story Of Bubble Bobble 2 - Extra Version (J) (https://vgmaps.com/Atlas/Genesis/index.htm#RainbowIslandsStoryOfBubbleBobble2ExtraVersion), and getting us some maps of some of the bonus games, namely Devi & Pii (J) (https://vgmaps.com/Atlas/Genesis/index.htm#DeviPii), Star Mobile (https://vgmaps.com/Atlas/Genesis/index.htm#StarMobile), and Spatter (https://vgmaps.com/Atlas/Genesis/index.htm#Spatter).  The first two are just about the foreground and backgrounds, but Spatter has 100 rounds of arcade action.  Phew!

It's cool to see that ROM dumps of the bonus games are available online (not too hard to find), meaning that they are still on the table to be mapped.

Thanks yet again, G.E.R.!

It was very unexpected found a vertical-looping (https://vgmaps.com/Atlas/Genesis/AtomicRunner-MutantPlantZone.png) maps (https://vgmaps.com/Atlas/Genesis/AtomicRunner-EgyptianDesert.png) in this games. This Is usually used for endless abysses or to save a level space and I think it's kinda of weird - to use this on not so big maps.

Light(e)ning and thunder!

G.E.R. delivers us maps from Lightening Force (https://vgmaps.com/Atlas/Genesis/index.htm#LighteningForce), Ranger-X (https://vgmaps.com/Atlas/Genesis/index.htm#RangerX), Rolling Thunder 2 (https://vgmaps.com/Atlas/Genesis/index.htm#RollingThunder2), and Splatterhouse 2 (https://vgmaps.com/Atlas/Genesis/index.htm#Splatterhouse2).

Keep up the good work, G.E.R.!

G.E.R. has gifted us the maps from Super Street Fighter II: The New Challengers (https://vgmaps.com/Atlas/Genesis/index.htm#SuperStreetFighterIINewChallengers), Truxton (https://vgmaps.com/Atlas/Genesis/index.htm#Truxton), and Viewpoint (https://vgmaps.com/Atlas/Genesis/index.htm#Viewpoint).

Great work as always, G.E.R.!

Wow, that's a lot of games from G.E.R. today.  11, which is a decent fraction of the entire Genesis Mini 2!

GENESIS
After Burner II (https://vgmaps.com/Atlas/Genesis/index.htm#AfterBurnerII)
OutRun (https://vgmaps.com/Atlas/Genesis/index.htm#OutRun)
OutRunners (https://vgmaps.com/Atlas/Genesis/index.htm#OutRunners)
Super Hang-On (https://vgmaps.com/Atlas/Genesis/index.htm#SuperHangOn)
Virtua Racing (https://vgmaps.com/Atlas/Genesis/index.htm#VirtuaRacing)

SEGA CD
The Ninja Warriors (J) (https://vgmaps.com/Atlas/Genesis/index.htm#NinjaWarriors)
Robo Aleste (https://vgmaps.com/Atlas/Genesis/index.htm#RoboAleste)

BONUS
Fantasy Zone (https://vgmaps.com/Atlas/Genesis/index.htm#FantasyZone)
Space Harrier II (Genesis Mini 2 version specifically) (https://vgmaps.com/Atlas/Genesis/index.htm#SpaceHarrierIIGenesisMini2)
Super Locomotive (https://vgmaps.com/Atlas/Genesis/index.htm#SuperLocomotive)
VS Puyo Puyo Sun (J) (https://vgmaps.com/Atlas/Genesis/index.htm#VSPuyoPuyoSun)

I wonder if there might be some way to more fully map out the racing games, OutRun, OutRunners, Super Hang-On, and Virtua Racing.  Those would be a technical challenge.  I'm fine to mark them off as green for "completed" as they are, though.

This actually clears up all the "Bonus" games, except for the enhanced version of the first Space Harrier, which is the 61st game that is not seen in most of the ads for this.

Incredible work as always, G.E.R.!

It's always nice to see you take out big chunks of requests like this.
(But you don't ALWAYS have to send them in batches.  :P )

Three more from G.E.R. today, all for the Sega CD: Final Fight CD (https://vgmaps.com/Atlas/Genesis/index.htm#FinalFightCD), Night Trap (https://vgmaps.com/Atlas/Genesis/index.htm#NightTrap), and Sewer Shark (https://vgmaps.com/Atlas/Genesis/index.htm#SewerShark).

I had forgotten that Final Fight is on the Sega CD - in many conversations I hear of Streets Of Rage (a Sega exclusive series) vs. Final Fight (arcade and other platforms, but in this context, usually the Super NES trilogy) when it comes to beat-'em-ups on the street, so it's like... "oh, yeah, Sega DID get a Final Fight as well!"  According to the credits, it seems Sega was involved in the conversion.

The other two, Night Trap and Sewer Shark, I associate so much with the Sega CD, they're the games I immediately think of - even though I've never played Sewer Shark (which was apparently also on the 3DO, guess it wasn't exclusive). And Night Trap is funny in that it was so controversial back then, but now, it seems so incredibly tame.  I watched a compilation of death scenes on YouTube in the same room with my usually-conservative mother, who ended up laughing with me at how silly the whole game is.  I think I bought the 25th Anniversary version digitally on the Nintendo eShop for the Switch when it was on sale at the same time as another FMV game, Double Switch, and had fun with both of them for a few minutes, before deleting them and almost forgetting about them.  They're interesting games from a time period when movie scenes in games seemed to be so cool, but they feel clunky now.  I'd rather play Dragon's Lair... (which was ported to, like, everything, including the Sega CD, but isn't on the Genesis Mini 2...)

I do wonder if there's some way to "map" Night Trap and Sewer Shark... maybe screenshots of important scenes and like in a flowchart style?  I dunno...  As with the racing games from two days ago, I'm okay with marking them as "complete" for now.

Thanks yet again, G.E.R.!  You really are quite dedicated to this, and that's great to see!

Today we have a map set from a mapper that we haven't seen before here, Guard Master, for ToeJam & Earl In Panic On Funkotron (https://vgmaps.com/Atlas/Genesis/index.htm#ToeJamEarlInPanicOnFunkotron)!

I don't usually ask people on GameFAQs for the maps they have there (the only other time I did it in recent years was for Panic! for the Sega CD... it's a funny coincidence how it's another Sega game with "Panic" in its title).

Guard Master said he was "not completely satisfied" with the maps hosted on GameFAQs, so he had to make some changes.  In a short amount of time, he produced this nice set for VGMaps!  Thanks, Guard Master!  It's good to see someone that takes pride in their work and wants to put the best versions of their work out there!

(Also, thanks to G.E.R. for suggesting that I ask Guard Master in the first place.)

There are only a handful of games remaining; will we have a full Genesis Mini 2 atlas before long?

Pew pew!

Three more from G.E.R. today: Night Striker (J) (https://vgmaps.com/Atlas/Genesis/index.htm#NightStriker), Silpheed (https://vgmaps.com/Atlas/Genesis/index.htm#Silpheed), both for the Sega CD, and some of the maps from the hidden Space Harrier (https://vgmaps.com/Atlas/Genesis/index.htm#SpaceHarrier).

Thanks yet again, G.E.R.!

I also decided to honour xyzbilliu's maps of Shining Force II (https://vgmaps.com/Atlas/Genesis/index.htm#ShiningForceII) as the "Maps Of The Month" honouree for May 2025!  Congratulations!

Is Shining In The Darkness (https://vgmaps.com/Atlas/Genesis/index.htm#ShiningInTheDarkness), mapped by Vorpal86, considered complete?

Is the end in sight?

Bugs Bunny's Double Trouble

Taz: Escape from Mars

You're missing the point of this topic.

This topic is about getting the games mapped that are featured in the Sega Genesis Mini 2.

None of the Looney Tunes games you mentioned are on the Sega Genesis Mini 2 (and I mean, officially, standard, how you buy it, not like hacked or whatever).

We "gained some ground" (heh) thanks to G.E.R. today, with maps of
Gain Ground (https://vgmaps.com/Atlas/Genesis/index.htm#GainGround),
The Ooze (https://vgmaps.com/Atlas/Genesis/index.htm#Ooze),
and one map from Populous (https://vgmaps.com/Atlas/Genesis/index.htm#Populous).
Now every base Genesis game is at least partially mapped!

Also, more of the maps from the hidden Space Harrier (https://vgmaps.com/Atlas/Genesis/index.htm#SpaceHarrier).  Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think there's one more stage to go, and then the "BONUS" section will be complete!

Getting close to the end, many thanks to G.E.R.!

Looking forward to seeing maps of the Sega CD games!

I guess there's not much to the last area of Space Harrier (https://vgmaps.com/Atlas/Genesis/index.htm#SpaceHarrier), but with that final map of "Absymbel", it looks like the "BONUS" games of the Sega Genesis Mini 2 are now completely mapped!

Feel free to correct me if that's not the case.

If the list is accurate, looks like we have a couple of Shinings, a couple of Eccos (sounds like we're talking about light and sound there), Populous, and Mansion Of Hidden Souls left.

I don't know much about Mansion Of Hidden Souls.  Skimming through some images and videos of it just now, I'm reminded of the classic PC game, The 7th Guest, which I also requested in my own requests topic (https://www.vgmaps.com/forums/index.php?topic=2478.0).  That game is notable for being one of the first CD-ROM games showcasing the storage capacity of CDs with its many video cutscenes.  But that's The 7th Guest... we can talk about that elsewhere.

When I think of the Sega CD, I always think of Night Trap and Sewer Shark.  I don't know how I didn't hear about Mansion Of Hidden Souls.  It might as well have been hidden... at least to me...

Looking forward to seeing that SEGA CD section completed, if it's possible.

Actually we already have Ecco's CD maps:
Ecco the Dolphin include 5 extra levels (exclusive for SCD), the Tides of Time include some objects (exclusive video-glyphs) on the same maps. But don't fix anything now, I'll send new maps with objects and waythrought lines for all games tomorrow and I'll tell you what need to fix.

Thanks, received.

I'm checking the files now.

Did you find out any more about Populous?  I'll be putting up the three maps you also submitted, but do we know how many types of areas there are?

I recall the Super NES version has many, but I'm guessing the Genesis version could be different.  Sadly, there isn't a guide for Populous on GameFAQs specifically for the Genesis version, and there aren't many playthroughs on YouTube that would make finding this out easier.

I actually don't know how many maps should be, all videos that I found were for SNES/MS and other platforms. There really have a lot of levels (=scenarios/scripts), but all Genesis levels, that I checked, was only this 4 themes: grass, desert, snow and volcanic.

Do you think it is okay to mark Populous (https://vgmaps.com/Atlas/Genesis/index.htm#Populous) as complete, then?

Thank you for the submissions and clarifications on Ecco The Dolphin (https://vgmaps.com/Atlas/Genesis/index.htm#EccoTheDolphin) and Ecco: The Tides Of Time (https://vgmaps.com/Atlas/Genesis/index.htm#EccoTidesOfTime).  Still took a while to get them up because I had to rename a bunch of existing maps that I figured are still worth keeping.  Both of the Ecco games have now been checked off of the Sega CD section.

Awesome work yet again, G.E.R.!  You really love taking on these multi-game requests, don't you?  Your effort is appreciated.

I guess that leaves the two Shining games - Shining In The Darkness and Shining Force CD - as well as Mansion Of Hidden Souls, which I'd be interested to see how that is handled.
Title: Comparing Ecco's map
Post by: G.E.R. on October 01, 2025, 10:54:11 pm
I was compared every map (my and exist) before saving and there are minor discrepancies between them. Some images coincided almost 100%, but some maps have differences (colors, walls, block structure, sea plants). Apparently, due to various emulators or ripping method.

One interesting that I found: Machine levels (with autoscrolling) has a looping maps like Sonic 3 & Knuckles. This has no practical significance, but if you break autoscrolling and try to move freely around the level, the right edge of the map will continued seamless to the left edge, and bottom edge to top edge.
Ecco Jr have has more levels than maps: there can be 2-5 levels on one map with the possibility of way between them.

G.E.R. has mapped out Shining Force CD (https://vgmaps.com/Atlas/Genesis/index.htm#ShiningForceCD) and Mansion Of Hidden Souls (https://vgmaps.com/Atlas/Genesis/index.htm#MansionOfHiddenSouls)!  Turns out that last one wasn't that hard after all.
Thanks, G.E.R.!

He has also clarified that the Shining In The Darkness (https://www.vgmaps.com/Atlas/Genesis/index.htm#ShiningInTheDarkness) map set by Vorpal86 that we've had all this time is actually complete too.
Belated extra thanks, Vorpal86!

It looks like... could it be?  The Genesis Mini 2 has been completely mapped?

I'll check it over, and if so, I'll thank everyone involved and edit the original post (like I did with the others when they got completed), move this topic to "Map Gab", and make a front-page feature image sometime.

EDIT: This is who has mapped what... looks like G.E.R. was involved in mapping 46 of the 61 games, most of them completely by himself!  Wow!  That's dedication!

It wasn't so difficult due to use emulator with the possibility of manage layers (visible/invisible), game genie codes (invincibility player) and free moving around some levels.
There was small sized levels or small levels count in most this games.

If anyone's still in the mood for some Sega Genesis mapping...

I'm always wondering if I should make a topic about mapping all of the games available on the "Nintendo Classics" apps (as they are now called) for subscribers of Nintendo Switch Online (the online service for the Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2).  More games are added occasionally, so it'd be something I'd have to keep updating, but I imagine it should easily be possible to map them faster than they add to them.  :P

The apps include games from the NES/Famicom, Super NES/Super Famicom, and the Game Boy/Game Boy Color on the basic tier.  Subscribing to the Expansion Pack also adds games from Game Boy Advance, Nintendo 64 (with a separate app for M-rated games, and more features on the Switch 2), Virtual Boy (announced but not yet available at the time of this post), and GameCube (for the Switch 2, not the original Switch).  And it's not limited to Nintendo platforms, there's the Sega Genesis/Mega Drive as well.

Here's the current list of those, as seen on Wikipedia:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nintendo_Classics#Sega_Genesis_/_Mega_Drive (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nintendo_Classics#Sega_Genesis_/_Mega_Drive)

As of now, there are 51 Sega Genesis games, but 42 of them have already been mapped.  Certainly having the Sega Genesis Mini and Sega Genesis Mini 2 fully mapped knocked out many of these classics already.

Now, I haven't checked if those 42 games are FULLY mapped, but the nine games that we don't have any maps from at all are these:

ESWAT: City Under Siege
Flicky
Mercs
MUSHA
Puyo Puyo (J)
Super Thunder Blade
Target Earth
Thunder Force II
Zero Wing (E)

So yeah, I dunno... should I make a "NSO/Nintendo Classics apps" requests list?

From my personal requests list (https://www.vgmaps.com/forums/index.php?topic=2478.0), all I have right now for the Genesis is one Sega CD game: Snatcher.  (Though maybe I should add Zero Wing (E) to it, weird that we don't have that already...)

Thanks again for all your hard work!  I don't mean to sound like I'm all like "you're not done yet, LOL".  Though I am a Nintendo fan, I always feel like the Genesis needs more representation here.
