Title: Why so many names, Intanos VI/Inty/Chris/ResR?
Post by: JonLeung on April 19, 2006, 12:48:09 pm
I'd guess that "Chris" is your real name, and that "Inty" might be short for "Intanos VI", but who or what is "Intanos VI" and "ResR"?

I have no originality in my name...

It seems the polls are working well. :)

and as for names, it just depends on where the originality comes from to think up the name. Mine's actually a shorter version of a ridiculously long nickname my friends gave me based off a Metallica song. o_O See? Weird stuff...

Though it would be cool to know where INtanos VI came from.

Hey Eggz! Got my latest email?

(Apparently I don't have the clearance to send a PM yet)

Yeah, and I voted Inty since it's the name I'm the most familiar with.

Thanks for this topic. Because i'm always changing my online alias. After this poll gets so many votes. I'll change my name to it permanantly.

Intanos VI (originally just Intanos)...was the name i thought of when signing up to some browser-based RPG, Thanos came into my mind from the Marvel comics for some reason. I kind of got inspiration from it and made it sound more Greekish myth-like. The numbers on the end replicate how many GameFAQs accounts i had.

ResR is the username i've recently been using on online games. It generally means Resist Redemption. But i thought that was a little long.

Inty is a nickname gathered from the Intanos accounts. It caught on and soon everyone were calling my Inty.

And yeah, Chris is my name.

Too be honest i don't like any of the usernames. Inty seems to sound withdrawn and young. One guy even said it sounds emo <_<

What is he talking about... it doesn't sound emo in the least.

Your username is ultimately up to you, so don't just pick the username that we like best.

And Terra, yeah I got your e-mail. I'll give you a shout when it gets here!

I don't like my username so much anymore, but it's been my Internet handle for so long I just keep on using it, especially since I have nothing better to use in its place. Most people shorten it to Terra anyway, which looks better anyway. I wish I could find something with Terra in it that sounds good *and* isn't already taken by someone else on the Internet somewhere.

Well if people call you Terra, what's wrong with your username? You could have just Terra, but if you think other people on the net are called that...i wouldn't be worried 'cause i doubt anyone in the VGMaps community are. And besides, you were here first!

BTW, you could always add a couple of meaningful numbers to Terra...

If Terra is a Final Fantasy VI reference (the "Esper" part seems to confirm that), plus names that end in "a" tending to be feminine, does anyone ever think that you're a female?

There is/was a guy on GameFAQs called Celda.  (His name had nothing to do with Zelda: Wind Waker...I remember when Wind Waker's cel-dhaded style was revealed and the whole controversy erupted, he stepped into the conversation and I jokingly said, "hey, it's The Legend Of Celda", deliberately poking fun at his name.  I don't know what made him name himself that since it predated Wind Waker by quite a bit, but my own usage of that term was the first I heard of it before it became somewhat widespread.)  Anyway, they all thought Celda was a girl.

Yeah, Final Fantasy VI all the way; to this day the only videogame RPG I ever really played and finished. I could identify with Terra at the times in that, who wouldn't want to be a living magic weapon of tremendous power?

As for being confused for a female, some people did (I once responded to a sex joke as a male but since the person who made the joke thought I was a girl, she took tremendous offense at my reply, which wasn't helped by the fact that she was bipolar and and in a very volatile mood that day). I had to correct people a few times, though one of my past avatar was a South Park-like face with glasses and goatee which kinda announced my gender right away. I guess it all started with this fascination I have with strong-yet-not-badass-cliche female characters that started way back when with Penny from Inspector Gadget. I moved on from there.

It kinda reminds me of an old PVPOnline comic strip where Francis, the teen gamer, asked if it was weird for him to play a female warrior on a board RPG. He was reassured it was perfectly normal to play out fantasies at his age. The last panel is the same group decades later where he's *still* playing the same  female character and everyone's looking at him in a 'weirded out' way :)

I play female characters in fighting games.  Probably because the game designers and game artists are mostly male, as would be gamers of this genre, they tend to make them leggy.  This usually means longer-reaching (and often impressive) kicks.  They also tend to be agile, faster, and more aerial, which helps since I tend to be offensive in fighting games.  I'm not very good at even blocking (don't even ask me to try parrying), so thankfully they're typically smaller (in certain respects) or skinnier.

I don't identify with any of them enough to choose their name as my own, though, but that's just me.

Well, identify is perhaps a strong word. I just really liked the character and found it cool, that's all. Plus, I'vealways had a fondness for the latin names Terra and Luna for Earth and the Moon respectively.

Personally, I like the name ResR for some reason.  I guess because it sounds more... admin-y?  Yeah, that's my reason and I'm sticking to it!
