Having searched high and low for these maps to no avail, I've decided to introduce myself here with this project.
I present you with the map for stage 1 and offer a heart 'Hello' to everyone here. Enjoy.

Welcome on board Dude/Dudette! This looks really neat and makes me eager to see the real thing :)
-
Awesome, no one has ever mapped this game before. I look forward to you finishing it.
-
Oh, it's been done (http://www.vgmuseum.com/mrp/NewCV/map-hcast.htm), just not done well at all.
-
Yeah, I've seen those. For my purposes I need something more... precise.
I'm actually working on a gamemaker project that combines all the various remakes of Castlevania/Akumajou Dracula in the ultimate 8-bit remake. But I don't want to talk about that here.
As I work on these I will add in all the little sprite props that the game uses.

I should also point out that the ones on that site are at 1/2 normal resolution.

I got the impression that he took a bunch of screenshots and cropped them together. But yes, they are very small and I really dont consider them to be maps based off the way they look.
-
I'm making my maps off of MAME screenshots too. I'm just being more accurate and clean about it.
I'm working on stage 2, but I don't have a way to turn off graphics layers. It's taking ages to remove the fog in the first section so you can get a clear view.
-
Is the map you posted in the first post in this thread the final map or will yours be bigger?
-
It's full size. Here, I'll add a download lik to the first post and a WIP of stage 2.
-
the full size looks really good
-
Thanks! ^_^

Updated Stage 2 with a bit more progress.
-
I am excited that someone is mapping this game. I wish I knew how to or I would do it myself. Are you a Castlevania fan or just of this game?
-
I'm a big fan! I've been playing Castlevania since I was like 13 and discovered CV3. (I'm 32 now.)
I'm an amateur game designer and programmer and I'm working on a project that involves the maps for CV1 and all of it's remakes.
I actually hadn't played passed the first stage of HC until I needed the maps.
It's a very challenging game and one of the few CV games I never beat.
-
I must admit I've never played the game since I'm really not into arcade emulation. However, I'm really interested in seeing full maps for this game since (unless I'm mistaken), it's basically the main inspiration behind Castlevania. Good work so far :)
-
Actually you have it backwards! ^_^
Haunted Castle / Akuma-jou Dracula for arcade was the 2nd remake (IIRC) of Castlevania / Akuma-jou Dracula for NES. The first being Vampire Killer / Akuma-jou Dracula for MSX.
This thing is a quarter eating devil, I'm glad I never had to play it in real arcades. Anyway...
Updated stage 2-1 now we can see the distant castle in it's full (fugly) glory!
-
Yeah some people seem to think that Vampire Killer was the original game and Castlevania was based off that because Vampire Killer came out in 1986 and Castlevania in 1987, however Castlevania was released in 1986 in Japan prior to Vampire Killer, under the Japanese name AkumajÃ…Â Dracula
-
I updated the Stage 1 pieces with some corrections and missing bits.
Also, I added Night time versions of 1-1a & 1-1b.
-
I just watched a Let's Play run of the game and wow, it looks like such a cheap arcade game. You have the patience of a saint to want to go through that!
-
Patience and a love of Castlevania. ^_^
-
Hey Vanya how are these maps coming along? Havent heard from you in awhile.
-
Hey. Yeah, I was just now working on editing the graphics in the game image to make it easier to make maps of that godforsaken misty area. Sorry I haven't been around in a long while. I went through a very difficult time earlier in the year. My wife asked me for divorce and things were pretty gnarly for a while. But I'm getting back on track with this now, so no worries.
-
Ouch :(. You have my sympathy for what it's worth, and I'd never begrudge anyone for taking care of such problems instead of mapping. I'm not sure if you've already updated that map in your opening post, but in any case it looks pretty close to being 'de-myst-ified'!
