Title: Anyone have a plastic card printer?
Post by: JonLeung on March 19, 2012, 02:21:53 pm
Does anyone have a plastic card printer that I could use?

(I was going to ask "borrow and/or use" but unless you live in Edmonton, I expect borrowing would be rather difficult...)

No, I'm not making fake IDs.  I'm looking to print card badges.  Sixteen of them, each of them different.  I can't seem to find places that do that kind of thing around here.  I guess I could check Staples, as they might do business-related printing...however, I don't need multiple ones, just one each of sixteen different ones, and I'm doubtful I'll be able to do that without having to order multiple ones of each.

I was hoping maybe if someone here did happen to have a plastic card printer (whoa, they sell for $800???), or at least have access to one, if I could send them the image files and they could print off the cards and mail them to me and then I would pay you for the trouble and the cards and the shipping.

It's a long shot, but I figured I'd ask.

Too bad you don't need 500 of the cards... lol. Cheaper than buying a printer though!

Are images changing on them? I can do 500 cards (12mil) with variable data (text) for around $100 + tax and shipping. 30mil (thickness like a credit card) is about $130 + tax and shipping. But these cards will be full bleed full color.

If just names change we could just do 16 names, leave the rest blank... you could use the blanks to show random people or something... IDK.

I know its a bit more than what you were thinking, but I'm throwing it out there for you to consider as a backup.

I just messaged you about details.

I guess I didn't realize printing plastic cards was so expensive.  I recall back in elementary school or maybe junior high, a friend sent out birthday party invitations in the form of "secret agent-esque" ID cards.  They were personalized for each invitee, with name, photo, and other quirky and fun details.  So I thought it would be something affordable to a preteen's allowance...apparently not?

Maybe a party supply store? That's an idea.
