Post by: DarkWolf on January 28, 2007, 03:43:33 pm
Episode  1 World Map

Not sure if I'm going to do the levels, but the world maps are interesting.

Is there anything in the huge area blocked off by your name and the title?

No, the map had a few rough areas where the player never goes.  I fixed the small ones, and just covered up that big one.

How many world maps are there?

Three, one for each episode.  Xargon is one of those shareware games where the shareware version contains the first episode and the full all three.

That reminds me, I was thinking about consolidating the Secret Agent and Monuments Of Mars! episodes...

If you've seen today's update, I have submitted a prototype Xargon level map. I would be reluctant to continue if I had but a Bee Transformation cheat, so I could fly and scan more of the levels.

The levels are stored in a raw format, unfortunately I was never able to figure how how tiles were mapped.  My usual tricks didn't work.

The source code of Xargon is available (http://www.classicdosgames.com/company/epic.html), so you could see for yourself how the game does it.

I'll have to take a look at it when I get a chance.  I've been sick lately.

Update:

I've successfully extracted the sprites from the game, the tiles shouldn't be too difficult.  I'll have to see if I can resume the mapping of the game when I get a chance.  It looks like the game source might contain code for an editor as well, but I have to research that a bit more.
