Title: Bird problem
Post by: Zeric on June 27, 2007, 06:38:22 am
When I where out to get my mail I saw two birds outside my door. The other one was dead and the other one was still alive but had a little problem with its leg. I decided to take care of it and the bird seems to be OK so far after a day. I dunno what kind of bird it's since it is still so young and what I should feed it with, any ideas?

Quite a responsibility you've taken there..!

I don't know much about birds and what they eat, but you should take a visit to the local library and snatch a book or two.

Or alternatively, there must be an ornithological club somewhere near where you live. A book is good, but actual experience and knowledge would be better. Hope this little birdy makes it to adulthood; keep us posted about its fate please.

Updates!  Updates!  What's going on?

And it's hard to tell how large the bird is from that picture...

He/She is feeling alright and I believe I have found out what kind of bird it is, a Wood Pigeon. I haven't had any problem feeding him/her and I have just giving it a bath.

Glad to see the litle birdy is doing alright. And I'll even admit it is kind of cute, despite how ugly it is :)

He is still alright and have now learned to eat for himself. I was quite suprised yesterday, When I heard him and saw him outside my room. Because he needed to get upstairs to reach it so he have either learned to fly without my knowledge or he jumped all the way. So I am happy to see he have made so much progress.

So it sounds like you're sure it's a "he"?  Are you going to keep him, release him, or pass him to someone else one day?

If you're going to be taking care of it for a little while yet still, maybe you should give it a name.  :D

I can't see the pictures when I come here at work, so I wouldn't have any suggestions based on the recent pics...  :(

I am not really sure if it is a he or she yet.

I gave him some flying lessons today and he is kinda good, espescially at landing. Though he/she can't fly by himself where ever he lands so I have to run around helping him/her down.

I guess it's been a few months but whatever happened/is happening with this bird?

Funny. For some reasons, I didn't check this thread after the opening post so I never saw all those pictures of the cute fella. Have you thought about a name for it?

Has the bird tried to peck your eyes out yet?

Around a week later after I put up the last picture of him here, he disappeared during his flying lessons. So I don't know what he is up to these days.

But I hope he is alright and well.

Well, even though the bird is gone, you still fulfilled your mission of nursing it back to health.  Congratulations.

Somehow I kind of expected that.  Kinda sad, I guess, but some animals aren't meant to be pets and it's better for them to be independent.  Once it thought it had healed up enough and could fly, it chose to leave.  Though certainly it must appreciate what you did for it.

If you believe in any sort of karma, I'm sure that must've counted for something, though knowing that you helped another life must already feel pretty good.  :)
