Post by: JonLeung on May 26, 2006, 10:58:03 am: Last I checked (which was pretty much when the forums were being set up), they weren't. Now if the items are fully operational as well then I will find time this weekend to check over the prices, edit them overall if I can, etc.

I want people to earn these items, so they'll be visiting every day to get enough Gold for the useful items.

I will probably give the regulars (i.e. just about everyone stil here) the Images and Hyperlink items (or enough Gold to buy them).

If referral bonuses work that might be another way to encourage getting more people on here.

To not have time to look over one's own forums' features...that's pretty bad... >_>

But thanks for reminding me of that OTHER store...I'm going to design some new things. No one wants a VGMaps.com compass that doesn't even say "The Video Game Atlas". I was thinking I'd make less advertising-ish designs and have something people might wear, like a shirt saying "I obsess over pixels" or something.

I was trying to do the thumbnail with link thing but I can't get it working (and without being able to edit, I don't feel like making 20 posts or so just to figure it out).

Post by: JonLeung on May 27, 2006, 08:23:11 am: You can use the ImageShack URLs, I always do, but you have to be sure it's the "direct link" one. The way this particular forum is set up I don't think you can directly use the "message board" ones or whatever.

I believe you can also use the typical HTML code for images...I often did.

And I don't see how you guys don't think earning things is fun. Oh, wait, I gave you guys the items. Well, it's more fun to actually hold on to an item, even if it's just a virtual one. And look, if I ever need to control it, I can always take away items.

When I was extremely active on other forums such as the old LUE2.com, earning things was part of the fun. In a game-related environment, I don't see why you guys would object. You don't want to start a game with everything available, now do you? >_<

Look, it's additional incentive for newcomers to come back. It's worked on me, so why wouldn't it work on others?

I mean, those are the most basic of abilities to have on the net, since basically browsing the web is, at its most basic, reading text with pictures and being able to click on links to get elsewhere. I'm sorry if I sound bitter, but I really didn't have much interest to post in a crippled manner compared to all the other boards I'm a member of. The inability to edit posts is still something that I miss, because often I would have something to add after making a post, but since I don't want to have too many posts of mine one after the other, I'll just say to myself "oh, to hell with it".

I think that the reward system should be about things that are cool but not necessary. For example, being able to have a larger avatar, to change the color of our text, to use additional smilies beside the basic ones, etc. Those are fun and would enable board members to personalize their posts.
