Maps In Progress / Re: Shovel Knight (PC)

Cool! Nice to see someone else pick this project up because Shovel Knight sure deserves it.

Are you using tools to capture the various background layers or are you suffering through it manually like I (stupidly) did?

I've never played it but looking at the various maps, it reminds me a lot of Bucky O'Hare for the NES (also by Konami). Both are fundamentally platformers but with stages featuring varied gameplay.

Great job by Spenottone!

OK so this is probably one of the most outrageous thread resurrection in the history of this board but I feel it's important to share it with... whoever might need to use Troy Lundin's amazing SMRT utility in 2025 (or later).

*wait for it*

Run it as administrator.

Otherwise it will be super slow and just completely hang after starting to blend.
The thing is, I probably figured this out the first time I tried it way back when but I either forgot or Windows has just changed too much over the last.. 12 YEARS!?

Map Requests / Re: Iron Commando: Koutetsu no Senshi

Hi! I believe you can find game maps and sprites for Iron Commando on websites dedicated to retro gaming resources, like Spriters Resource or VGMaps. Those platforms often have assets for older games like this. If you don’t see them there, you might want to try reaching out to communities or forums focused on SNES games—someone might already have what you’re looking for! Good luck!

Map Requests / Re: Wind Waker, Twilight Princess, and Skyward Sword Maps

Sure, that's a great idea! The Ocarina of Time maps are indeed fantastic, and it would be awesome to see similar detailed maps for Wind Waker, Twilight Princess, and Skyward Sword. While I’m not sure if anyone has worked on those specific maps yet, there are some fan communities and dedicated map creators who might have tackled similar projects. You could try checking forums like Zelda Universe or Reddit communities like r/zelda. Sometimes, even tools like custom map generators or fan-made projects emerge for these games. It might take a bit of searching, but there’s definitely potential for finding or even inspiring someone to create maps in that same meticulous style!

All three games have been sitting in my Steam wishlist for over a year thanks to a video praising the series by Nitro Rad.
I just... don't have enough free time to watch/read/play everything in my *huge* backlog. So it'll probably be a few years before I buy them, and a few more before I actually *play* them.

*sigh* Someday...

Maps In Progress / Re: John Brain's Sega Genesis maps (25/25)

Personally, I enjoy them mostly from an aesthetic point of view, either by themselves or assembled together to give an idea of what a game world looks like as a whole.

I'm surprised it took this long for this game to be mapped out.

I was never a big fan of Kirby's Dream Land 3. Not because it's not good but it always felt too safe, too mellow to me and I don't think I can even explain why. It just *does*.
Mind you, I do love the graphical style and the music, especially the ending theme which always makes me sad near the end. There's a feeling of quiet finality to it, as if you're expected to go to sleep now that the story is over.

Anyway, great work by Jackster as usual  :)!

It's been twelve years since my last post in this thread and I've yet to finish tagging my collection which has become much larger since then.

I quickly ended up giving up on automated methods which usually added too much clutter in the tags. Instead, I've been using Mp3tag to manually do the job which isn't ideal but gave me the control and results I desired.

It took me some time but I ended up with a small list of tags I felt were necessary with a few rules to handle various situations. File naming stumped me for a while (illegal characters) as did music genre but I eventually worked through all that.

The problem is that once I start tagging my collection, I don't keep going until I'm finished and just stop halfway through. I think I've started the whole process three times already!

Thanks for suggesting AudioRanger evern though I doubt I'll give it a try. I just have too much music which isn't official in any way (YouTube rips, game rips, podcasts, etc.) nowadays.

Whoever they are, please extend the thanks of the community for allowing their works to still be shared, even if partially anonymously.

I've actually fully mapped Ufouria: The Saga in 2006 so you can remove that one from the list.

I haven't seen it yet but maybe someone else has...?

Great job zagato blackfist!

This reminds me, I should really watch the movie the game is based on. I have a dubbed copy that's been siting on my SSD for a few years now...
