Map Gab / a couple minor corrections (out of this world, castlevania)
« on: September 12, 2015, 10:18:56 am »
Will Mallia did a fine job on the OoTW maps. however, on part 8, all the way to the left, it shows the aliens running for the gate, which is not their normal rest state. if you don't approach them, they're standing around in a group. the only way to see this is to go upstairs first (which leads to getting killed).

likewise Rick Bruns made excellent maps of Castlevania I. however, the levels are designed to match the overworld map, and there are minor inaccuracies. The first floor of the main/grey building should be above Frankenstein, instead of next to it. Second, there's too much distance between the sewer and the courtyard, it should be slightly lower. There's also places where the stairs don't line up just right but there may be no helping that.

These are minor issues, but I'm just trying to be helpful.

I've now got all the screenshots I need to complete this. There are 50 invasion routes in mongol conquest, and 106 in world conquest, so it got pretty involved. Savestates, as well as an in-depth gamefaqs guide with all the borders, helped alot. Putting it all together in Pixen should be fairly straightforward.

As you may have noticed, there are already maps of this game on gamefaqs. But there are two important differences:

1. They are diagrams, while mine are in-game graphics, and
2. My maps have the staging areas for invasions, while the diagrams do not.

I should be submitting sometime soon. Is there any guide for submission, besides emailing them as .zips? I haven't found any general instructions.

I'm a retro gamer, so I was looking for Gauntlet maps. snesmaster's 30 maps were on gameFAQs, so I searched google to see if there were more. Eventually I ran across this site and became a fan.

that is very cool. I'm not even gonna attempt mapping 3d games anytime soon, 2d is enough for now.

these are really impressive sprite rips, keep it up!

(I realize that they're not technically sprites, I just think of them that way)

brilliant diagram! it's accurate enough so that the thumbnail looks like a neon version of the real map.

KindarSpirit's rip of Ozzies Fort does not show the hidden room. (it's in the L shaped area with the crank)

Also, the mapping is far from complete. Is anyone working on finishing this game, or should I take it up?

nevermind, it turns out I can make a PNG without blending layers, and it comes out fine.

I'll give updates as I progress.

I'm currently mapping this NES strategy game by Koei. When I'm done, I'll have all the battlefields for Mongol and World conquest (41 in total, plus the 2 global maps).

I've got the basic mapping done, the difficult part will be getting all the staging areas for the various borders. Some countries have borders with as many as 5 or 6 other countries, so I'll have to use savestates to invade from every angle.

As a macfag, I'm currently using Pixen to work with the screencaps. I've had a few minor issues, such as the colors getting darker when I merge layers, but I'll figure it out in time.

Here's an example of what I'm doing, country 7, england:
