Map Requests / Final Fantasy IV Complete Collection - PSP
« on: July 26, 2022, 04:13:40 pm »
So I'm thinking of giving FF4: CC on the PSP a go but unlike some of the other releases, this one does not have in-game minimaps that I'm aware of.

This collection spans 3 games in total:
*Final Fantasy IV
*Final Fantasy IV: The After Years
*Final Fantasy IV: Interlude

VGMaps Social Board / Re: VGMaps is now 15 years old!

Nice video.

I was thinking the other day, that probably the best way to update vgmaps.com would be to turn it into a wiki.  Users would be able to update their photos for games when they want & organize them as they see fit.  Also, keep the forums around.

Also, I was thinking that for most images, instead of using a desktop program to minify them, you can upload them to google photos, one folder at a time.  Download the minified photos, delete them from google photos & move on to the next folder.

Gamefaqs would probably be your best bet or giantbomb.

Click images for the game you want and usually you can find them right there near the top.

Mapping Tips/Guides / Something to try for image smushing

https://wordpress.org/plugins/ewww-image-optimizer/

Basically, you install wordpress and point it to a folder to optimize.  I think this can be done in 2 ways.  Optimizing locally or with a paid cloud service.... which I haven't looked into the paid option yet.  Just happened to stumbleupon it today and it reminded me of vgmaps, it might be a good choice to help cut down some of the image sizes.  No need to even keep WP installed after it's finished since that's all this mod requires to run.

I've been checking out jpegmini.  If you use the desktop app you can do 20 jpegs a day with the free version.
However you can also register and upload jpeg files to a album after you zip them.  That will put them in the server quo to be crushed, you can download the crushed images after it's done too.  So far it looks pretty good.  I'm considering upgrading for $20, however... it's limited to 28 MegaPixels unless you plop down $150... in which case it can handle up to 50 MegaPixels...

So long as you apply this before stitching maps together it should be a very valuable tool indeed!

Some of your maps are massive Zerker.. I've tried to crush some of your ultima VII maps but pnggauntlet takes forever! ;)

Also here you go, here's some optimized images for your page https://www.zerker.ca/zzone/category/maps/ultima/

Click on the optimize images tab to grab them!

Mapping Tips/Guides / Re: Testing a new layout

Thanks, I suppose the style of xnview generated pages make it feel like 90's software but it's actually updated frequently.

Not sure what you mean with server side code unless you're talking about coding a custom software to do it..  Frames... Yeah they don't necessarily need frames but I was testing out xnview to try to get some feedback on it lol.  I have found several good photo galleries from joomla but my issue with those is like with the vbulletin gallery, it doesn't let you see the image in full resolution unless you open the image in a new tab.

I've also been playing around with the now free Microsoft Expression Web.  It's a great wysiwyg tool and pretty unique in that you can move elements around as you please, like moving around pictures to somewhere else & easily linking them.

Mapping Tips/Guides / Testing a new layout
« on: January 05, 2014, 01:37:30 pm »
I remember people saying some of the pages were slow and it needs a new layout to help ease the loading times.  Also I remember a statement from Jon I think, along the lines of it's important that people get to what they want as fast as possible.

I'm testing out xnview and it's create webpage mode, I also have a different layout in mind for system & game navigation.  Anyways how does xnviews thumbnail to full picture look to you guys?  Does it help you find what you're looking for faster?

Does anyone remember which Issue of NP has the question along the lines of:

Where do you use the rainbow drop & staff of rain?

I remember sending this in to them & seeing it in a later magazine in the Counselor's Corner section but for the life of me can't remember which one it was.
