Gaming / Re: The "Project Cafe" (Wii Successor) Rumor Topic

I had a paragraph here about my disliking of the term "hardcore" and how I believe the definition is wrong - but regardless of what I think, I guess there is a user base who don't revere Mario, Zelda, and Metroid games with the same intensity as they might have in the past.  (It doesn't help that Metroid: Other M doesn't quite compare to Super Metroid...)  I don't know what the rumours of Nintendo courting Rockstar Games might mean.  Getting Capcom to make some exclusive Resident Evil games didn't change the image of the GameCube much, so unless Rockstar Games were to become a Nintendo second-party, or at least definitely exclusive, anything they make will just be another GTA: Chinatown Wars on the DS - critically acclaimed but not a killer app for a new crowd.

Nintendo doesn't like the term 'hardcore' either. And I refuse to use it as a way to describe a gamer or a game. It describes an approach to playing a game. You can play Tetris hardcore. You can play Halo casually. But Tetris does not require you to be a big fan of gaming in order to get the most out of it, while it certainly helps with Halo.

As far as Nintendo goes and their history, they actually have a pattern of releasing a console with an idea, then refining that idea. The NES, then the SNES, with mode7 and improved controller (which is pretty much the standard even today), but still retaining the core idea behind the NES. Then the N64 with 3D worlds, followed by the Gamecube which was pretty decent but the core idea didn't make it stand out from the crowd. So, if motion control was the core behind the Wii, then the next system should take the idea and refine it. Though now that all systems have motion, Nintendo needs to offer a service or something (non-gimmicky) that makes it stand out from the crowd.

From a software sales point of view, capturing the gaming enthusiast crowd is a desirable ambition. The 18 - 34 demographic has the disposable income to generate a relatively predictable sales trend. Whereas software sales on the Wii have been anything but predictable. Reggie has commented on the disabppointing sales of Metroid Other M, for example. (Though I believe story content and inconsistent waggle control had a LOT to do with that).

I don't believe for a second a blu-ray drive. Nintendo will do anything to keep from paying additional royalties.

Do television and movies display blatant warnings of exposure to violence? Nope. There is no direct corelation between witnessing fantasy violence and having violent tendencies. Those that do display violent actions already were predisposed to that behavior. We all know how the blame of young violence has jumped around from media to media over the years. Its odd though how everyone wants to avoid blaming who should carry it: the parents. Whether its movie serials of the 30s, comics of the 50s, music of the 70s, cartoons of the 80s or video games of now, the only constant has been a lack of parenting skills in keeping the kids in check.

Good luck in buying a network adapter, too. Originally produced in small supplies due to the lack of broadband penetration in the late 90s early 2000s. I bought a Dreamcast when they offered it for $100, and I couldn't find one in the stores. Though I would have just used it for Quake 3, which I was already playing on the PC so it didn't matter.

And that page the Darkwolf linked, the guy was saying something about an IP address containing letters and dashes... what's up with that? IP Addresses always contain numbers, don't they? Is that some weird European thing? MAC Addresses contain letters and dashes, which is totally different than an IP Address.

Most of the membership is made up of one shots. Some one asks a question or whatever and then never come back.

I think most of that 511 were just bots.

The maximum size is set to 65 x 65. Why the forum bumps 64 up to 65 I dont know. Will look into later though.

Geist multiplayer is not what I would have choosen. Might as well have picked Metroid 2. Personally, I love Bloody Roar on the Cube. Oh yeah, Smugglers Run. What an awesome game that is, especially when you turn on unlimited power abilities. You NEED to have Smugglers Run in there.

Mario Kart64 was my intro to the Kart series, so that would be one of my pics, but you already have two kart games. Banjo Twoie was a fun multiplayer too, but no contest with Goldeneye and Perfect Dark.

All in all, should be a fun time.

Do you have access to another computer? Like at school, can you get it to happen there?

sesc?

I haven't seen that.

I did a google and found a discussion on SMF's forums, but its with RC2 (we're on 1) and the error crops up when accessing the same scripts across subdomains, which isn't done here either.

All I can suggest, clear your cache, delete your cookies, shut down your computer. Bring it back up and login to the site. See if you can edit one of your posts.

This is an edit of my post...

Another edit: nope, no issues.

Everything that is on the web seems to indicate the answers are all in the game without requiring outside research to answer the puzzles.

XML files will allow an RSS feed too. Followers can see when new maps have been added without visiting the site.

PHP can be used to create a navigation and landing pages based on a file structure. For example, have a directory called 'maps', then have 'consoles' and 'handhelds' and the other categories. Within each of those, create more directories 'nes', 'snes', and so on. And then directories for each of the games within each console. At this point you either place map files or additional directories for 'included' games, like how there are several Grand Theft Auto games for the PS2. Same idea for interiors. Name the map files what they should be listed as, and create a text file with additional information about the game and maps, like the author and ripped or original. PHP can display file sizes and document types and whatever metadata is attached to the image. The logo of each game can just be called 'logo' and the script can look for the file, if it exists then it gets displayed.

Anyway, it would be fairly to make a more intuitive way to navigate the maps. A search function can be added, too. Imagine wanting to see all maps of 'Mario' or 'Sonic' in a single list, no matter the console. The hard part would be renaming the images and making the text files. Who knows, maybe it wouldn't be too bad, take the existing tables and extract relevant data into a new file...

That would make adding new maps easier, too.

I agree that RE5 never felt like it tried to scare. It is basically an action title. I have no problem with action titles, but I missed the suspense of the other RE games.

Excitebike for the NES. Killer Instinct on SNES. Wetrix on the N64 is an awesome multiplayer once you wrap your head around the idea. I've also sunk many hours into Forsaken on the N64. The controls can be difficult (seriously, up down left right forward backward at the touch of a button... ahhhh!!), but the joy of sneaking up on someone in the maze of corridors and launching a nuke is bliss.
