Map Requests / Ice Climber
« on: May 24, 2008, 02:26:28 pm »
Even though I've never been a Smash Bros. fan previously, now Brawl is getting me hooked on it. It's also gotten me thinking about old games that are represented in the game. And I'm surprised there's no Ice Climber maps here yet (unless I'm just completely blind or something).

Is anyone thinking about taking that one on? Since it's an NES title, it seems like it would be a pretty simple one to do (for those who know how to map, that is).

This isn't any major request or anything. More of a curiosity thing. =0)

There's a massive revamp going on at ZU, so we're rewriting every game section on the site. I'm doing both of the Oracle games--stuff like bosses, enemies, items, Heart Pieces, etc. The overworld maps of Labrynna are quite a handy reference for this. =0)

Heh, Ctrl+F5 turned out to be just what the doctor ordered.

Sometimes it amazes me when the solution is so simple. ;)

Thanks Maxim!

I have no idea why, but there is one map on this site that absolutely won't show for me. It's the Labrynna overworld present map for Oracle of Ages--instead of the map, it shows me that hotlinking message or whatever it is.

This is very strange because all over Oracle of Ages maps are working fine, and even the map in question was working fine too just yesterday (maybe even this morning too). Only now is it alone acting up.

Normally I wouldn't make such a bother, but I'm writing up content for Zelda Universe (due tomorrow), and that map would really come in handy...

The only thing I can think of would be the in-game mini-map showing the course while you're racing. But even that's transparent and not at all detailed...

Why were you bumping a thread that had just been posted in only 5-6 hours earlier? =P

Ah, sounds like a most interesting trip! That is rather sad in a way about such aggressive and quick modernization. But I suppose it makes sense with the most populous country in the world. Good write-up!

And good to see you back again, Terra! *whispers something subliminally about Mega Man V and Mega Man Zero* ;0)

I've never actually played the DS version (nor the GBA version). I need to get on that... >_>

It's here at last! What does everyone think? For me, it was even better than expected. The Wii Wheel handles beautifully, the new courses are a rush to race on, and (for me) the icing on the cake? Retro courses!!!

Can it be? The maps for the greatest Mega Man game ever created are complete at last! =D

I just started OoT: Master Quest today and made it all the way up to Jabu-Jabu's Belly. I have to say, as my first time through the MQ version, some of those dungeon rooms get pretty danged tough! We'll see how things continue tomorrow.

Maps Of The Month / RE: 2006/11: Super Mario Bros. 3 (NES) - Various

(Whoa, blast from the past!)

Yes, I second these suggestions for the second Bowswer room (haha, no pun intended)--and text free as well. Besides, SMB3 is enough of a classic that anyone who *doesn't* know there are two Bowser rooms in that fortress has probably never even played Mario before (at least not during the 2D era).

Maybe Will himself can offer a suggested order? I wonder how close he's getting to finishing off that game now...

Also, looking up at the intro stage issue from Mega Man X--wow, it's amazing how I'd never even noticed that before! (And I'd been playing that game since 8th grade.) I'm thinking marioman's PC version recommendation might be the best for that intro stage.

Yeah, I mixed thoughts on MMX8. The stage design was absolutely deplorable, but everything else was pure gold--'tis unfortunate that level design is so fundamental. =P

I do highly recommend X7. It's not as good as many others in the X series, but if you made it through X6, you should have little problem with X7. The camera's a bit of a problem in some places (here's looking at you Wind Crowrang's stage), but not as bad as most make it out to be. The Sigma battles at the end of the game (c'mon, that's not really a spoiler, is it? ;) are among the best in the whole series IMO.

As for me, I have Zelda: Ocarina of Time Master Quest coming up as soon as I finish a couple other things I have going on.
