Very excited about the acceleration of these Yoshi's Island maps! That Golden Egg truly has been a great find.

It just makes me depressed as a Wii owner that Nintendo never released this game on the Virtual Console--and at this point looks like they never will. :(

I can't wait to see what the "Map of the Month" will be for December 2012. :P

List updated.

Not to be picky, but I noticed on the Lake Hylia rip, the side view shows Lake Hylia drained, but the top view shows Lake Hylia with its water level full. Was this intentional?

Happy 5th birthday to the Wii!

On the one hand, it doesn't seem like that long ago that we were all playing Wii Sports and Twilight Princess.  On the other hand, given Nintendo's five-year clockwork, it would be expected that we should get the WiiU sooner rather than later...

Some people think the Wii's motion control and casual games are some kind of downfall for gaming, or some kind of "lesser" experience.  But I've found that my gaming parties the last couple years have been possible because of accessible games, and casual gamers (and girls!) know how to have fun without feeling like they have to be skilled.  I've managed to throw gaming parties specific to particular consoles, with varying degrees of success, but turning on the Wii has never given me any doubt about whether or not I'm able to entertain my guests.  The Wii's 5th birthday is indeed something to celebrate.

Absolutely.  I mean, think about the fight with Byte in X3.  With X I can hand Byte's ass to him but how many other characters that I've listed so far could take him?  Probably Putty, Sparkster, and Samus.  Maybe Maria, Sky, and some of the animal buddies, but it would be a lot of work.  X can move away from incoming damage to any other spot he wants just like that.  It's a hard move to top as far as platform games go.

I definitely agree. When you first started this thread, the first character who came to mind was X, and I started realizing, "I can't think of a category X is deficient in." :P

Now at the risk of sounding obvious, where are Mario and Yoshi?

Mega Man X (Mega Man X)
The.  Ultimate.  Character.  When I set out to review X I knew he'd get high marks but not like this.  Take everything I just said about Mega Man and add not just improved jumping and maneuverability but super jumping and maneuverability.  X can, let's see, climb walls or land on a pin, jump to the other side of the screen, unleash highly varied massive attacks, use an incredible array of tools, withstand tons of damage, and even add more upgrades and add ons as if everything else wasn't enough.  I'm not even counting things like his ride armor or water walking ability.  It makes me wonder just how badly other characters would get killed in his game.  There's not a platformer that couldn't handle X.

YEEEEAAAAAAAHH!

Go X. ;)

I loved the latest map from Yoshi's Island--and that was a positively brilliant map of OoT's Forest Temple! Between the puzzle block room, the twisting corridors, the courtyards, and that rotating basement room, this temple looks like it had to be a PAIN to map out. Kudos on doing such a good job with it!

EDIT:
Also, thought I'd finally update the OoT map list from a couple pages ago. :P

Map Requests / The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords
« on: October 01, 2011, 12:03:05 pm »
With the recent release this past week of Four Swords Anniversary Edition, I figured now might be a good time to request maps of the multiplayer game, Four Swords for GBA. The challenge with that of course is that the maps are randomized for all four of the main stages: Sea of Trees, Talus Cave, Death Mountain, and Vaati's Palace. I guess one could make maps of all the main boards, then of the various central areas (which change every time). The Chambers of Insight are set, so that would be easy.

Then for the DSi/3DS version, there's also Realm of Memories and Hero's Trial. From what I've heard, those are thankfully all set and not randomized, much more like Chambers of Insight.

GameBoy Advance games (Available by the end of 2011)
* Yoshi's Island: Super Mario Advance 3

This had better mean that the SNES Yoshi's Island is coming to the Wii VC sometime soon then. >=(

List updated--wow, you're moving through this big game quite fast!

I hear the inside of Jabu-Jabu's belly looks especially creepy and disgusting in 3D.

Can't wait!

Map Requests / Metroid Prime Pinball
« on: June 22, 2011, 08:43:21 pm »
Here's a fairly simple request for a Nintendo DS game: Metroid Prime Pinball. I have no mapping experience myself, but it seems like it should be easy enough for anyone with any DS mapping skills. The entire game consists of only 7 tables, 5 of which are only 2 screens large (the other two being 4 screens large when you factor in the Wall Jump segments of the first two tables).

So the maps would go like this:
- Pirate Frigate (+ Wall Jump section)
- Tallon Overworld (+ Wall Jump section)
- Phendrana Drifts
- Phazon Mines
- Artifact Temple
- Impact Crater
- Magmoor Caverns (multiplayer only)

Examples for how the tables might be laid out can be found here (not that I'm advocating anyone copying these maps of course)--see the bottom of the page:

A worthy winner of map of the month honors! This is by far the most beautiful game I've ever seen in 16-bit, and it's also my second favorite game of all time (second only to Zelda: Ocarina of Time).
