Map Gab / Re: Shining in the Darkness (GENS)

OK here is the official update and final.

Shining in the  Darkness maps are now officially done and posted. Sorry if I necroposted but I'm trying to update my absence! Thanks for your patience! ;)

Ahh cool! Congrats GOCHA!
It's seems like that game was a pain to map or maybe not but you did a fine job my friend! I wish there was and Eng translation for some of those. Have yourself a break, you deserve it!

I remember playing the Mystical Ninja on Snes back in it's release era and it was very fun. It's really too bad that we only got the first one here in the states. The next one to ever get released in the states was the N64 versions (two games officially I think...) It will be nice if and when we get some more mystical Goemon game levels mapped. After I'm done with Castle of illusion I'll see about getting some more for Mystical Ninja.

Cheers!

Me too Jon. It just seemed like Robotrek was one of those that would have been done a long time ago like FF and other good RPG's like Lufia. I searched all over the internet and found only one map of Rocco village but it was in jpeg. It's was about 16 years ago I played it and wanted to play it again. :)

@ LTIan
Not sure if you are around but I think I'll add the Genesis version of Castle of Illusion. It will be a bit slower than normal since there is no way to remove BG's with Kega Fusion and I'll have to do it the way I did Shadow of the beast and time can be consumed easy. I played through a few stages each of the three difficulty levels has different pickups, none where there should be and access to additional areas of the stage and fewer enemies.

Practice -
Only requires the first area of Stage 1 the Forest to be completed ( there are actually 4 areas and no bosses ), fewer enemies and apples to collect/throw rather than like on hard where you just get 100 points for picking up a few Diamonds in there place. The layout of the maps are also diffefent on difficulty. I need check out further to find all the differences. I just played through a bit ago on Practice mode and I saved Minni in about 20 minutes! ( That was easy.. ;) )

The game has only 3 levels on Practice

Normal -
Full game. Access to all 4 areas of the Stages, boss at the end and different map layout for some areas. More enemies. The normal full game has 5 levels altogether and 4 areas plus a boss. I'll use this difficulty level for my mapping. A few areas of the game change map layout like in Toyland.

Hard -
Full levels but even more enemies and some pickups arenot present as they would be in either practice mode or normal mode. No continues and lots of ruckus. Diamons for points in place of the apples and even fewer to pick up.

You might know all this already. Most of the differences are irrelevant to mapping. As long as I play normal all the stages should be accessible to map. At any rave on and on... It may take a while but I almost have area 1 complete. It'll probably be the hardest to map after that it should go smooth.

I may take a rest and start Castle of Illusion. However, carry on. ;) The game is still not present so that's good. I'll keep you posted.

Yeah that sentence was running on.. I was tired.

I looked around for names or emails to get hold of someone but to no avail. I'll check into it soon. I'm sure I can find someone who could give the OK. Then I'll add them in for the credits. Those Milon's maps are using anti aliased fonts so editing them to only use single color fonts preferably from the game it'self would be nicer. We'll see about it. I am almost done with the mapping for Shining in the Darkness and that game could be up before next weekend.

ATM my ol pal and I who did Dungeon Heroes (Dungeon Crawler) with is ready to make another game and I'll be doing the Pixel Art for it. He's excited and it's just in the idea stage right now.

It's been that long? Sheesh.. The activity here over the past few years hasn't really been too good with guys like me running away for a while then popping back up just to give away some new maps.

But on topic - I have this Player's guide and I actually got it with my very first subscription to the big NP! I loved that mag up until they removed councilors corner, classified info and took all the maps out of it. Around the time that the GC kinda ended and the Wii came about and Future took over. Now we see what happened to it afterwards.. :(

I have over half of all power mags and all of the first 4 original players guides that were actually a single issue. The Mario, Ninja Gaiden, 4 Player action and the Final Fantasy player's guides. The normal issue came out bi-monthly while that was going on then after of course, the normal 12 issues per year started. I didn't have the first 12 issues when I first subscribed but it was back in early 1990 so I was able to purchase the entire set since they were actually quite readily available and in stock. Also some years later Nintando said they don't sell to the general public in thier magazine but I called them around 1997-8 or so and they actually sold me a copy of Zelda 1 and 2 (Classic series) which was cool. They kinda lied to me.. :)

At any rate I checked out the new CVII maps.. Very nice.

I also have a few maps put together for a few other games that are not on Vgmaps and maybe one day in the future I'll get those completed. These of course aren't on my soon to do list just some I noticed that didn't have any maps for on here. I've tried to keep a list of games as best I could if not on vgmaps I'll put it in so there is always plenty of maps to compile and do :)

I've got some maps for:

NES
The Adam's Family - Pugsly's Scavenger Hunt
Deadly Towers
Just Breed (J)

(Unofficial NES Hack)
Zelda II - The Shadow of Night - Easy (hard, and easy both have different maps) Most of Parapa Palace almost mapped

I think that's it though other than the 2 on my official list. I have all the maps for Milon's Secret Castle but I did not rip them myself I was given permission to use them but haven't yet compiled them due to my honest notion of the fact that I did not rip them myself even though I have permission to use in a creative common usage agreement it still infringes on the rules of this site for posting maps that's why I haven't. It's still giving me bad dreams. heh! :)

I pulled the Milon's maps from here. The only place I found maps for it.

Gaming / Re: What Games Are We Playing
« on: August 28, 2016, 07:06:31 pm »
Yes quite old but hey we are all getting older by the minute and time passes before we know it!

I also played Brothers: A Tale of two sons. The controls are a bit testy at times but I manage.

I've played and finished (Mostly Retro 8bit/16bit Steam Games)

Oniken
Odalus: Thew Dark Call
Jet Gunner
Castle in the Darkness
Evoland 1
Strider HD
SuperFrog HD! (Yes SuperFrog!)
Double Dragon Neon

Aggelos - Very nice Wonderboy in Monsterland style game. I completed the demo but the full game may not even be ready. He has 2 other games called Eon which is  a very nice and colorful Shadow of the Beast style game all original gfx and a Zelda Classics Project full game called Golvellius la quete du second. It's prety nice for a Zelda Classics game.
http://www.wonderboy-bobi.com/aggeloseng.php

I finished most of them and played a few Demos that haven't came out full yet but this is about it since over the last 8-10 months of my absence.

Gaming / Re: what sites do you download from?
« on: August 20, 2016, 11:36:44 am »
Fantasy Anime is very nice. The owner of the site is pretty cool. Mostly just RPG stuff though but good choice.

Edge Emulation is pretty nice for Roms and Cd/Dvd. Not a fast server but I get 3mb/s down speeds
http://edgeemu.net/

Planet Emulation is also nice for a lot. It's clean and nice BUT it's in French. Using Google translate will fix that but you don't really need it but helps. Site is slow though 256kb/s.. heh
http://www.planetemu.net/

Romhustler is a fast site. I download at 8mb/s and it's pretty clean. I've gotten some broken iso 7zip and rar files though
http://romhustler.net/

yes I got good internet finally! 65mbit :)

Howdy folks! - Sorry for being absent a while. I started a new position at work and my hours changed and blahh blahh excuses excuses I know! ;)

I have an update finally after 8 months! I'm not dead... (yet..) For the last few weeks however, I have been working every day as much as I can and I am now starting on the maps for Area 7-1 (7-2, 7-3...4 etc..) and then the last area 8. That's only 8 more maps left! Yay! Since a few weeks ago I've managed to speed through the map making process and of course get them as accurate as possible. It's kinda difficult mapping this game since the scrolling restrictions. So basically I have completed about 40 or so new maps! =D

I noticed after area 4-1 most of the stages are just duplicate maps with a different color scheme and different object and enemy placement. By area 4 map making started to become quicker since the maps were/are the same. I just use the base empty map and changed the color and ran through to see the placement of things. This makes things a lot easier for sure! Thank goodness.

I should be done pretty soon.

PS:
As a bonus I have also fully mapped out Amagon for NES and it's 12 stages which was actually pretty easy to map and will be adding it to my list of completed maps. I'll send those in right away.

Maps Of The Month / Re: 2016/01: Adventure Island IV (NES) - Dammit 9x
« on: December 31, 2015, 11:28:10 pm »
Congrats to Dammit! Dammit! lol

Yes I have played AI II. The first of the New Year Game of the month! Almost we will have the complete Adventure Island map collection. Evidently this Mr Higgins caught on after the break-off from Sega as Wonderboy. Both series are pretty popular with several games available. BUT now the Monster Boy and the Cursed Kingdom!

These maps always come in handy and we appreciate the contributes! There was a lot of games not translated for English speaking folk. Luckily we have some fan translators in our midst. At any rate, thanks for the maps Dammit!

Here is an update. I changed the names of the files in the first post and now I have 1-2, 1-3 and 14 complete now. Will start on Area 2xxx now.

Here is a few more maps

Area 1-2 - Full

Area 1-2 - Min

Area 1-3 Full

Area 1-3 Min

Area 1-3 - Secret Full

Area 1-3 - Secret Min

Area 1-4 Full

Area 1-4 Min

It's a bit hard to hide the secrets underground when you need to see them to know where they are.. Heh ;) I'll wait till I get at least tw more complete areas mapped (2-x to 3-x) These should at least give placement to this game's map thread.

----------------------------------------------------------------
I'll post again in a while. I'll make the outline edges of the minimal maps a bit cleaner by adding outlines.

BTW Happy New Year! =D

Gaming / Re: Retro VGS - a new retro console - funding on Indiegogo
« on: December 27, 2015, 08:02:37 pm »
It's been a while but I have looked into this and watched the video on the progress posted at the main site. The problems I have with this is that the ide is from someone who worked for Atari and how the atari went broke and how the console looks like the Jaguar. It was deliberately shaped like the Jaguar. Not to mention it's only 14% funded and no time left.. hopefully they'll get funding somewhere or not..

Idie game devs currently have a vartiety of platforms to port thier games too (PS4, xBox1, Wii U). It may be a good thing for those older guys like me who grew up playing games starting with Yar's Revenge on Atari Etc.. moving onto the nes, sega and so on. I fear the controller is gonna be too thick. Most games will probalby be 2d games with plenty of action. It will not feel the way it use to back in the day. Even using my PS2 controller on my PC (only when I'm forced to) playing a 2D side-scrolling one just doesn't feel right. Now when I get to use my USB NES or SNES game pad, it is better suited to my taste and more comfortable.

Overall I myself would like to get one if and when it comes about. It wouldn't matter if it flapped over on it's back and die shortly after. It's a nice concept bringing the good ol days back to our living rooms. There seem to be a few nice looking games waiting for it, or being developed.

Games should start being announced for it in January.. So, not too much longer. We'll see what gives.
