Maps In Progress / Re: NES - Hudson's Adventure Island 1
« on: December 27, 2015, 07:44:16 pm »
Yeah the minimal maps are good for me too as this keeps everything clean. When you start adding in objects, enemies and a lot of other stuff that could be included the maps start to look cluttered and hard to understand. But since all the levels in AI are straight forward there's no real need for the maps other than being able to look at the whole level at once, and seeing where all the hidden goodies are. :)

This is why two versions of the maps are a nice thing. The minimal maps are a bit tougher to get accurate due to the... as Terra said - restricted scrolling. Gotta take it slow or you will need to start again since you can't go back. That's a bit hard to do in this game since the health meter steadily decreases and fruits that keep your life filled disappear. Luckily with the aid of GG codes this isn't an issue. Heh But some games simply have no need to be mapped. I mean ya only need a map iffin' yur gonna get lost.

This is an update. After thinking the maps were complete the Filled version of area 1-1 had some item adjustments I fixed. Some eggs give a different item depending on what you already got and the axes only appear in a certain spot if you die and have to start over. This changes the placement of certain items inside the eggs. I think I fixed this. Should be able to get whichever the egg represents when the time is right. Some items are in the same place all the time however, but only a few secret ones.

I'll be playing through each level checking the accuracy of the maps each time I complete one to make sure. Alright... I'll post more later. The new maps were updated over at dropbox.

I've seen snaps of this game and thought about what game it was. It looks appealing to me. I just learnt of the translation myself. I thought it was a stand alone game. But anyhow, it's good to see there is a fan translation. It's been a while since you posted on this game! :)

This update is a "cool" Christmas present! You've done some nice work. The only other animated maps I can think of (interactive also) was by Rick Burns (AKA - where did he go??) for the original Legend of Zelda overworld Map in Flash.. The overworld. I wonder if it's possible to use one of these as a template for other animated map projects? I mean since for me it seems not likely I could do one on my own. It would require a lot renaming that's for sure! :)

At any rate nice job!

Maps In Progress / ( NES ) - Hudson's Adventure Island 1
« on: December 27, 2015, 11:45:54 am »
The first time I played this game was back in 1988 at a friends place that another buddy and I hung out with. We started taking turns, alternating between the three of us. The host of our stay over was a guy who had issues. Still does... Haven't seen him in over 15 years but the other buddy and he lived together and now they might hate each other...  Anyway we started playing about 5pm at night... When someone died, or passed a level we would relay off the controller. It was now about 4:30 am and we just got to level 8-1! =D Damn hard game.

We were all hype.. The friend with issues was at play.. He was so frustrated at the difficulty, as was myself and our other buddy but not the way he was... I thought for sure we were gonna beat the game... Heck no.. The next thing you know, he got a wild hair when he killed off Master Higgins! He then slung the controller across the room plugged in and it hit the wall, console and all! We had no power.. then we had blinking.. DAMN IT! That was very upsetting I literally almost cried.. HEH.. What a baby.. Stupid guy.

Anyway that is the story of Adventure Island and my good ol days! That was the last time I played Adventure Island until last year around this time when I thought about mapping it. I never did. There are no maps for AI anywhere on the web.. Guess the game is too frustrating. Only with Game Genie codes will it be possible to relax and map the game. I'll use Game Genie codes up until level 8 to get back the levels we lost a long time ago in a galaxy far... farrrr away!

Here is the first Round and First Secret Round of Adventure Island. I'll be trying to make minimal maps mapping just the basic and filled maps.

The "minimal" maps will include just a clean mapout of the actual areas of the game that you see with no objects etc.., just the tileset landscape. No spoilers perhaps you could call it.

The "full/filled" version will have extra mapping filling in the areas you can't see and will include rocks, eggs, secret areas.. Similar to what Will and Blublu did with Duck Tales.

One good thing I've noticed is that there are some levels that by design are pretty much exactly the same level but with slight alterations. The forest levels for example and the cave levels. This makes things a lot easier than having to remapp the entire level. I can just change it's colors and add or remove the rock and fire and platform objects.. Stage 1-1 and 4-1 have the exact same forest level just that the placement of rocks, fires and platforms are altered! Easy... Er... Considering the fact that these levels are quite long.

Area 1 Round 1 - Min

Area 1 Round 1 - Full

Area 1 Secret Bonus Area - Min

Area 1 Secret Bonus Area - Full

Maps In Progress / NES - Low G Man
« on: December 26, 2015, 09:45:20 pm »
Yo-lah everyone! Hope all had a nice Christmas. As a late Christmas present I have completed all the maps now for Low G Man and I bring tidings! I'll ship them off to Jon asap.

Back Story:
The first time I played LGM was back in 1994 when we didn't have much of an internet. I actually played through the game all three times and beat it back then, recording it on my VHS =D! I bought it at Wal-Mart and got it out of the bargain bin back then. Not a too popular game sought out by many but it only cost $7 Brand new Factory sealed and there were at least 8 copies in there..

I should have bought a couple of them. Had I known how rare and collective some NES games or any old-school game for that matter and how expensive they could be these days I would have never gotten rid of my 30-40 complete near mint condition NES games I had back in the day. BUT my rent came due and I lost my job.. I was only 21! Now I'm 43.. Doh!! Anyway, that's my Low G Man connection and I'm sticking to it!
------------------------------
Onward... Until the finally completed maps for Low G Man are posted and find their way to the main site and moved to Map Gab I'll post here a few maps. Here is the first levels maps. There are a total of 20 levels. Stage 1-5 each with 2-4 levels and two hidden areas. Actually there are 3 additional hidden bonus areas besides the secret levels and I've marked them on the maps.

Level 1-1 ( Iron Nail)

The "Fetching Preview..." problem is still around.

I thought the same thing but I just got me a free drop box account and you can use your own hard drive to store your stuff or post it up. I think that's how it's working... Anyway..

Not a bad idea though sort of like Rick Burns has or had.. Not heard much about him in a while.

This is nice. It's been a while I've been around but here I am.

The first game was pretty fun. These maps will come in handy. Sometimes I wonder if it's more fun - just as fun or better than actually playing the game. since, of course you need to play it to map it. I've always mapped the game as i played it for the first time so my play experience is quite different than actually having the full maps ready for you as you play for the first time.

Good work

That's.... a LOT of maps.. I played this game at the Arcade but didn't get very far. My bro and I did get quite a ways in the NES version (by Tengen)

Very nice work!

You know it's kinda sad... One day it's 13 years ago, the next day it's 13 years later.. Where did all the time go?

It's not what you take when you leave the world behind you, it's what you leave behind you when you go! It's the journey dad gummit..

Happy belated Birthday VGMAPS!

VGMaps Social Board / Satoru Iwata (Iwata San) Passed away
« on: July 13, 2015, 01:40:18 pm »
Saturday July 11th Nintendo's CEO and President of Nintendo of America passed away of a bile duct growth in his body. A form of Cancer. Perhaps a lot of you guys are up to speed about it. He's been in the game industry since 1989 and had a direct hand in games like Kirby's Adventure, Earthbound and many other things.

So I share my condolences for all the good things he left behind to bring us joy!

I myself have had 4 people pass away in my family area over the past 5 years and I sympothize with his family at home and all his friends. He was a nice individual and a lot of people respected him if my observations do not lead me astray.

R.I.P Iwata San

Here is the official Notification of death.

Necroposting my own thread..

I forgot about this. But, I'll save it for a later date. My old site is not active anymore and who knows what I did with those maps I made.. I'm sure they are somewhere..

Note to self... you just found a crap load of your old maps most of which are already complete and posted to VGMAps.. A few of them are not here though. Shining in the darkness is among the ones located.. Great!

Map Gab / Re: (Help) Wonder Boy 1987 Sega MasterSystem
« on: February 09, 2015, 04:36:01 pm »
I've always wondered why the original Wonderboy, be it Arcade or Sega conversion and of course Adventure Island wasn't mapped. The games are difficult. There are a lot of the same BG designs in the game like in the forests and it could also get confusing.

Mapping Adventure Island should be easy enough considering there are Genie codes for it to help out. But not for Master system. As far as I know. I already have area1 round 1 of AI almost done. I've figured out a trick to map it quite easily, but time consuming since I'd basically redraw the map using tileset images.

As far as Wonderboy goes there are over 36 areas to map at least ; 9 areas, 4 rounds each = 36 in that game not counting the secret bonus levels. And each level is pretty long. About 8196 pixels. (at 8196x224)

At any rate. This game series is very nice.
