Maps In Progress / Lufia & The Fortress of Doom (SNES)
« on: January 04, 2010, 07:39:09 pm »
Hey~ Got around to working on mapping again. :D

Over the past half year or so, I've been slowly mapping nearly every area in the game, and now I'm playing through the game again to label all the treasure chests. Until I find some sort of code that will allow walking through walls, I'll only be able to post caverns, towers, and towns that don't have exorbitant amounts of trees in them. There's no way I'm gonna post maps with huge gaping holes, haha.

Also, I opted to use legends instead of labelling each chest individually; you'll see why with the Old Cave maps. ;)

Oh yeah, might as well give the link for the world map I did a while ago: https://www.vgmaps.com/Atlas/SuperNES/Lufia&TheFortressOfDoom-World.png

Eight times to be exact, but yeah. :-\

If I remember correctly, you could get to World A in All-Stars even with using warp zones. You just wouldn't get to World 9.

I opened it up in Photoshop, and even then I had to wait at least five minutes for it to load, hahah. :D But of course every second of waiting was worth seeing the end result. It's just amazing to see the castle in its entirety like this.

Absolutely awesome work, Revned et al! \(^o^)/

And speaking of mapping the inverted castle, I think I would be interested in taking on that particular challenge. I'll have to see about it. :)

For the next few games I want to map (Lufia and Lennus II) I'm going to have to find a way of "discovering" GG codes so I can map them fully. It's been rather frustrating whenever I looked in save states to find that there was barely any map data outside of what was visible for gameplay. But I think I'll figure it out if I'm persistent enough.

Yeah, the look and feel of Lennus is really out of this world, eh? ;D If you think the landscapes and areas look alien, you should take a look at a lot of the monsters in the game. Oh, was it ever fun, heheh. As I got close to finishing all the areas, I was wishing there would be more to do. :)

And while I'm at it, best of birthday wishes, DarkWolf!

This sure took me by surprise when I saw it on the front page last week! I don't think I would have ever bothered mapping this game if it weren't for a nifty patch I discovered many years ago that allowed for walking through obstacles, among other things.

Thanks for featuring them!

Of what spirits I do have so far, most have already reached their maximum level. With nearly all the bosses I've encountered, I cast a spell and it deals 2000-3000 damage on average. XD

Yeah, I think I will some time when I'm not so busy.

If they were pure art games, they wouldn't be very playable, now would they? hahah :) I think one of the most refreshing things about it is that it isn't some Tolkien-esque high fantasy clone; there are way too many of those.

On a somewhat related note, got back to playing Lennus II yesterday. I had to stop myself from taking screen shots wherever I went (Eltz in particular)... I didn't want my first playthrough to be some mapping exercise! lol

Thank you. ^__^ Part of the allure of mapping this game (aside from having a tool that allowed me to walk through obstacles... ;) was for the art. I had struggled a long while over whether or not to have labels at all, especially for the world map, because they'd just cover up the awesome artwork, heheh. But I'm glad I found a way of incorporating them without them sticking out overly much.

Yeah, those ones are still coming. I wasn't sure if I should've taken them off the list or not, but I decided not to; I should've said something about that in the e-mail. :)

I couldn't find your e-mail on VGMapper, so I'll send a PM instead.

The same as I am here: FlyingArmor. And as for the icon, something related to my name would probably be appropriate. :)

I'm not sure I'd call it trading they're doing... it's more like "Go fetch this item for me! Go find this person! Go get permission first!", that sort of thing.

Too bad I can't post images, otherwise it'd make explaining things so much easier. Oh well.

Starting with the vertical window with the two icons. The first one with the face crying "Help!!" tells you how many Wally Watchers are remaining to be rescued in the level. The second one with the dial is where you can change the sound settings and button controls.

The next window to the right is the current person or item you need to find.

To the right of that are the "equipped" items with which you use during gameplay. What's in it for me right now is the Magic Stick, Gloves, and a Lollipop (which they name "Red Candy").

The long horizontal window with the rotating presents is where the presents for Wenda's birthday party are kept. So far I've got Wenda's favourite flower and a stone axe.

The small window at the bottom with the question mark coming out of a box is where the contents of the presents are shown when you select one.

And lastly the window beside that is where all the written info is displayed.

Hope that makes things a little more clear. :)

Wally wo Sagase is actually not that bad of a game, once you get into it. :) As I'm playing it, I'm constantly opening and closing my DS when I'm not sure of a word, heheh. But if the stone age area is the first level, it's taking quite some time to get through it. Right now I'm searching for the last ingredient for Nana's stew so Uga, her husband, doesn't go and eat the Wally Watchers he's holding captive for dinner... or that's what I think is going on, haha. :D

Yeah, might as well. This would be a great way to practicing my reading skills, if for no other reason. :)

I know a bit of Japanese, nowhere near fluency (still working on that), but I can navigate my way through a Japanese game and more or less get the gist of what's going on. I think I would be interested, but right now I'm rather busy with preparing for art shows and making sure I pass my summer course, so something like this would pushed off to the side for the moment.

Gaming / RE: What Games Are We Playing
« on: July 15, 2009, 06:44:36 pm »
Heh, might as well post a bit here. :)

I haven't had much time over the last year or so to play many games at all, nor have I had much interest in doing so. Producing a body of work (i.e. paintings) had been my number one priority, so there wasn't much room for anything else. But even now that the term's over and I've got all this free time, I tend to gravitate more towards reading manga. But in any case! :)

The one game I've been playing most recently has been Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney: Trials and Tribulations. This series is always a lot of fun, though picking the right piece of evidence when it's not totally clear can be a bit of a chore. Other DS games that I've had on hold for a while include Final Fantasy III, Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin, Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia, and Etrian Odyssey II: Heroes of Lagaard. Oh! But the one "game" that I've been "playing" quite a lot over the last few weeks has been Kanji Sono Mama Rakubiki Jiten! lol XD

That's been pretty much it as of late.
