Map Gab / Haunting (Genesis)
January 06, 2007, 05:58:10 PM
I did an experiment to see if the individual rooms would fit together and they did!  So I'm going to map the houses and piece them together.  I may also do a map with each room split and label all the items you can haunt.

Mapping Tips/Guides / Raw Candy

I finally got around to starting work on porting Raw Candy over to C#.  The first new version won't have a ton of new features, but here will be some of the differences:

* Save your edited palette

* Save image (no more Alt-PrintScrn)

* Buffering (will mean faster drawing times hopefully)

* Image size small as 1x1 pixel (I know a few who complained about this)

To come later:

* Different rendering engines (like 15-bit color mode for Sega Saturn files)

* Bookmarks (scrap paper works fine for me though)

* Maybe, maybe, the ability to "paint" changes on the image alter the file.  IT'S A BIG MAYBE!

Map Gab / Master of Monsters (Genesis)

Yet another game you guys probably haven't played!  This game has a small following though, so I'm sure someone will appreciate these.

Sorry, I'm not mapping the entire game, at least not right now.  However, I do have this desire to map the split screen competition maps.

Map Gab / Warsong (Genesis)
November 26, 2006, 04:22:36 PM
For those of you who don't know, and I'm guessing it's most of you, Warsong was the only game in the Japanese series "http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Langrisser">Langrisser" to be officially brought to North America.  The translation is a bit off from what I hear, and most of the other versions of Langrisser are much improved than this version.  However, I'm starting with this one because it was the gateway game to discovering a cool series of games.

Map Gab / Bloody Wolf (PC Engine)

It's one of those Rambo type games.  I usually don't care for these, but I like this one for some reason.

Map Gab / Faery Tale Adventure (Genesis)
October 11, 2006, 02:34:02 PM
I'm planning on doing the whole world map for this game.  Unfortunately doing it at 1:1 scale is pretty much impossible on a work station.  The image would be 30,730 by 29,696 pixels, and 1 GB of ram just isn't going to cut it.

So I've decided on 1:4, which will be 7680 by 7424.  Still, a very large map.  The scale reduction shouldn't hurt too much, since although the game has a huge map, it lacks a lot of detail.

Map Gab / Where do you stand?
October 01, 2006, 06:29:21 PM
These numbers may not be 100% accurate due to fact that I had to parse the information out of the HTML pages on the page.  But they should be pretty close.

This is the first draft, so if you have any questions or concerns I can make changes.  I wrote it late Friday night, so there may be some parts that need to be refined.

Map Gab / King's Bounty (Genesis)
September 28, 2006, 07:33:29 PM
Except, these aren't maps in progress, they are DONE.  They took me about an hour to make due to the limited number of tiles used in the map and the fact that the addresses for the maps fell right into my lap again.

King's Bounty is like an early Heroes of Might and Magic.  However the main objective is to find the scepter instead of conquering your opponents.

Map Gab / Wacky Races (NES)
August 27, 2006, 10:25:07 AM
What, I'm doing an NES game?!  Yes, after doing Desert Strike I want something a little easier to map.  After going through my NES roms one day I found this neat little game.  Although I hate the cartoon, Muttley is the main character in the game, and Muttley was always pretty cool despite the other characters in the series.

Map Gab / Desert Strike (Genesis)
August 05, 2006, 10:21:31 AM
Although this game is on several platforms, I'm doing the Genesis version since it's the one I'm most familiar with.  The end maps will be fairly large, more than 6000^2 pixels with little or no white space.

Map Gab / Kid Chameleon (Genesis)
July 11, 2006, 07:13:54 PM
This one I didn't map with the usual "take 150 screenshots and put them together" method.  A few months ago I wanted to see if it were possible to make a level editor for this game.  Well I found where the level data was stored in memory (when dumped to a savestate), but in the ROM the level data is compressed. =(

However, I decided to use this knowledge of where the levels were stored to make a script in PHP that pieces the individual tiles together to make an image of the level.  Of course it took some time to rip 256 tiles, but the game uses this tileset for several levels.

Also, it isn't quite done.  If you look at the previews, you'll see what look like odd placed tiles.  These are the special blocks that appear in the levels and I haven't written them into the script yet.
