Maps In Progress / Super ZZT
« on: May 25, 2010, 10:42:13 pm »
I just started this a couple hours ago because somebody on another forum commented on my maps and I realized that DOSBox is awesome.

Currently I only have one board done, but each Super ZZT world is only 8 or 9 boards big (and I don't see anything that would be a major hold-up), so completion of this project is only dependent on my free time (and motivation).

ZZT's Lost Forest (WIP)

(The screens were taken from the internal level editor while in DOSBox, spliced together, and then the whole image was stretched 200% horizontally.)

Personally, I think the easiest way to do this would be using SMILE's export to bitmap function.

When I saw this thread I thought "Man I could've sworn that Revned was older than me."

Then I read the post date.

This article and its accompanying images are pertinent to our interests.

Here's an interesting thing I noticed about the background of Solar Man's level.

Two and a half hours and no game overs? That's actually quite respectable for a first playthrough. I beat the game a couple days ago, and my clear time was around 3 hours, with about a dozen Game Overs. Even so, I thought it was easier than MM9, and better overall. The levels and bosses are just as well-designed if not more creative. The weapons are a not as useful than MM4 or MM9, but all satisfying to use (like X2). The music is phenomenal. All in all, I think it might be my favorite Mega Man game, though it is a bit early to judge.

I also played through the game on easy as Protoman. The game practically beats itself on that mode. Seriously, there are like 2 Yashichis per level, assist platforms over 80% of the pits and spikes, and tons of goodies everywhere. I'm pretty sure my mom could beat it, and the farthest she's ever gotten in an action game is Butter Bridge 1 in SMW (which, admittedly, is quite respectable (especially in comparison to my dad)).

I played hard mode for about an hour last night and the only boss I was able to beat was Pump Man, but I did manage to get to a few others. I guess I'll be practicing them in their challenge rooms for a while...

I like the Famicom cartridge circuit boards scattered around the level (most notably, under Octobulb).

Are we gonna do anything about this?

IGN just released a few videos of the game, including the intro.

I rarely laugh out loud at all, but that's mostly because my laughing is practically inaudible. :P

I got the game for Christmas and played through it with two of my brothers. Somehow we managed to skip World 7 (and half of World 8) while still beating the game. Afterwards, I went back and collected all the star coins (mostly by myself) and replayed the levels I missed (mostly with a partner). Somehow, I've already done everything there is to do in the game (the game itself said so!). All in all, the game was very, very good. I've heard the DS game isn't up to the series' par (though I never played it), that is hardly the case for this game. The levels are consistently creative and challenging, the multiplayer is a blast, and the bosses are actually pretty good.

The only real complaint I have is that the controls for picking stuff up are a bit too finicky. Sometimes when you want to spin you pick something you don't want up (eg other players), and sometimes when you want to pick something up you end up spinning. Also, you can't pick up stuff while underwater, despite being able to carry items while underwater.

You know that MM10 fangame that some person on YouTube's been making? Apparently Capcom('s PR drones) can't tell it apart from the real game. Even the official site is confused!

Oh, and here's the silhouettes of the robot masters from the trailers (stolen from GameFAQs). Let's do some hardcore guessing!

- It's 8-bit (again)
- The first confirmed robot master is Sheep Man (who's electric).
- Proto Man is available from the start.
- There's a third playable character who's unrevealed (Bass or Roll?)
- Features an easy mode
- Plot: Mega Man has to build a vaccine-making machine to cure robots of the dreaded Robotenza (robo flu).
- Computer, lava, and ice themed stages confirmed.
