Map Gab / RE: 10,000th map anniversary
« on: May 27, 2008, 01:45:21 am »
As much of a big deal as the Mega Man mapping project seems to be, not everyone is *that* interested in Mega Man, or knows enough to even participate. I kinda think the idea is a little on the side of excluding people. Now if it was for Mega Man's 25th anniversary or something, maybe, but....

Terra, if you're that desperate, I could do some looking around where I live, between all the Future Shops and what not, there should be at least one hiding around the city somewhere. I could pick one up for you and send it to you. It's the least I could do since you sent me the Reboot movie back a while ago, though I'd kinda need to be payed back for this though ^^;

And are you talking about the whole "minorities in Quebec are diluting our culture so we're going to destroy theirs" thing that's been going on lately? (I live over in Ontario; it's all over our news too).

Well considering that right in the comments for the MegaMan room he says that it's his old apartment means he either found someone who liked it as is, or painted before selling. At least he had some pictures to share.

I'm excited about the series revival. Back when I had come across some of the conceptual art for the new trilogies I was impressed how they kept the old feel of the original characters, but made them more "futuristic" so to speak without making them look too goofy... or too much like Matrix. :P

I just hope that they don't feel as disjointed or slapped together as I found Deamon Rising and My Two Bobs felt.

Ok, I was just asking for a bit of clarification since Ryan didn't make it clear what he was talking about. Not everyone knows the details about every series. No need to get condescending.

Ryan Ferneau Said:
Why were they afraid to call Star Fox Star Fox for a while?

Just wondering... How does that fit in with the topic at all?

I don't quite see the point of mapping the SNES version of Mario's Time Machine when there's already a perfectly good finished version of the game, even though it's a NES port, as Jon previously pointed out. Unless someone finds an absolute need to...

Ryan, it would probably do you some good to read entire threads before making a post; you'll might find the answer to your question before you ask it sometimes.

Map Gab / RE: You know that Link's Awakening Advance map?
« on: May 22, 2008, 12:27:19 pm »
It's not necessarily a bad thing to revive old posts, it gets discussion going about it again. But I agree with marioman, bringing up issues from another forum without just cause is just annoying and doesn't belong here, and if you do feel the compelling need to call someone out, do it more discreetly, like a PM or something, otherwise you're almost as bad as he is.

Have to say having both maps properly framed and hung either opposite each other or next to each other would make for a pretty sweet piece of "modern art", so to speak. I know some of the big comic book shops here in town sell things like that (not framed mind you) individually for something around 80$ a poster. This way it's probably cheaper, and you get the satisfaction of knowing you had some personal part in it, even if it is just a rip. :P

Jon and DarkWolf have a point, most of the visitors to the site are North American (I hesitate at saying American only, since Jon, Terra and I are Canadian, and possibly more that I don't know of offhand), and for the most part even European gamers tend to know the NA titles for most games. They just tends to be more widely understood/accepted as overall titles, not to try and exclude a particular group.

But then we can get into the games that, when they make the shift from one region to another, even though the name was English to begin with, the name can get a complete overhaul. Here are a just a few examples:

- Bully (NA) --> Canis Canem Edit (UK)

- Indigo Prochecy (NA) --> Fahrenheit (UK)

- Haunting Ground (NA) --> Demento (JP)

In situations like that, you either get to know both names, or the NA one takes prominence.

Sorry Dammit, I've been having internet problems the last few days. I did try what you suggested, but I can't seem to figure out what I'm supposed to be looking for ^^;, not a testament to your explanations, more to my lack of understanding and executing them. Memory hacking is not one of my strong points

I doubt that, since you can have up to 4 wiimotes playing at the same time, not just 2.

As to what the "Wii" name means, it's not an abbreviation or anything, but I read in a nintendo press release somewhere that, to accentuate their new audience of casual gamers, the changed the name of the console from "Revolution" to "Wii" because it incorporates the idea of a more widespread audience; as in "Wii all play together" = "We all play together." It's just a play on words, and so that they can have their small little i's to bow to people in commercials.

Also, there's the speculation that Revolution came off as too harsh of a name and would only really strike a chord with hardcore gamers, while Wii was less aggressive. Then add to that there was all the press, jokes and jabs at the new name that spread like wildfire. Yeah, it has a stupid name, but word got out there, better than it did for any console.

The marketing department just put way too much thought into it as far as I'm concerned.

And what sort of emulator would you suggest for that? And the fact that I stated that I don't know how to crack roms and read their memory in the first place, let alone determine what sets the camera position, without any tips as to how to do this points to a rather large problem with your advice.
