Now that my "Jon 'N Jason In Japan" series is done, it's time to get to clearing out the backlog of other videos in my editing queue, before they are no longer timely.  Thankfully, I got the Edmonton Expo 2023 video done before the end of the year...  Phew! It's the first expo we've been to in a while! Met Morena Baccarin, John Rhys-Davies, Carl Weathers, and Giancarlo Esposito!

I've been watched all videos and I have several questions.
You visited many restaurants of japanese kitchen, are there such cafe/restaurants in USA/Canada where cooking exactly the same dishes as you eated in Japan? Fully "japanese kitchen" not "something similar".
What is the Sonic exposition on ninth episode? Is this a theme stand or gaming zone?
And I saw the plush Kirby with rabbit's cap, but I don't remember that ability on Kirby's games. What game is this ability from?

Regarding the Japanese restaurants, I have had Japanese food here in Canada, but I don't really know if I can tell you which ones are truly authentic.  Some of them certainly look like they could be, like Izakaya Tomo.  I tried searching on Google Maps for "authentic Japanese restaurant", but I think it's just pulling up any Japanese restaurants in the area.  You'll probably just have to check with the descriptions and reviews at the ones in your city, I don't eat out enough to tell you for sure which ones.  (And as for the other cool restaurants, like character cafés, I definitely haven't seen those around here in Canada.)

In the ninth episode, the sign with Sonic at 22:01 refers to "Joypolis", the Sega arcade that my brother and I go to starting at 22:48.  The Sonic The Hedgehog thing seen inside is the current theme for the "Geki-On Live Coaster" ride/game where we have to hit the buttons to match the beat of the music from the Sonic games while riding the roller coaster.  Is that what you are referring to, or is there some other Sonic thing in that episode that I forgot about?

I didn't even notice the Kirby with the rabbit ears, or if I did, I didn't think much of it.  I am not aware of Kirby with rabbit ears in any of his games, or I just can't recall, as he's worn all kinds of hats and headgear in his many adventures!  A quick Google Images search isn't bringing up any results that are from a game, but there certainly are many plushes of Kirby wearing them!  It must be some cute thing that has become popular but maybe hasn't - or hasn't yet? - appeared in a game...

Thanks for watching all of my Japan videos!  I am hoping they get more views, as travel videos seem to do well on YouTube... but mine haven't picked up much steam...  I changed the thumbnail of the tenth episode today to see if Shizuka's pretty face will draw more clicks than when I had a big question mark over her mosaiced face, trying to draw in curious people...

I'll be back to making video game-related content soon!

In the ninth and penultimate episode of "Jon 'N Jason In Japan" (which is one of the longest and best, IMO), my brother and I check out the man-made island of Odaiba and the geek paradise of Akihabara.  Gamers and otakus will like this episode!

In the eighth episode of "Jon 'N Jason In Japan", my brother and I go to Tokyo Disney to check out Tokyo DisneySea.  (It's a short episode, but episodes nine and ten coming up are the longest and best!)

Map Requests / Re: JonLeung's Requests

John Brain, pro Genesis mapper, has contributed maps for McDonald's Treasureland Adventure!  Nice to have this colourful platformer on here!

That also does it for my personal Genesis requests at this time.  Wow!

That's not to say there aren't more Genesis games worth mapping, of course.  I didn't have a Genesis growing up, so there's a lot of stuff I'm not familiar with and not particularly nostalgic for, but I'm sure there's more I would appreciate once I see it.  And, obviously, this whole site's not about me.  (Just this topic...) ;)  I ALWAYS want more maps from any game on any platform, I just don't know what else I would specifically want to see in particular from the Genesis/Mega Drive at this time.  I do love that era, though, so anything's good.

Thanks again for your ongoing hard work, particularly on the Genesis front, John Brain!  I look forward to what else you may have in store!

In this week's episode of "Jon 'N Jason In Japan", my brother and I try to see Mt. Fuji from the most photographed spot in all of Japan, the famous Chureito Pagoda in Fujiyoshida.  Then in Tokyo, we spot Godzilla and eat at the 2D Cafe, and have conveyor belt sushi at Kura Sushi.

Maps Of The Month / 2023/12: Rockman & Forte (Super NES) - Geminiman
« on: November 30, 2023, 09:28:43 pm »

For this month's "Maps Of The Month" featurette, I wish to draw your attention to Geminiman's Rockman & Forte (J) (Super NES) maps.

Mega Man and Bass are the titular heroes in Rockman & Forte, a Japanese Super Famicom exclusive, before getting a worldwide release on the GBA a few years later.  According to producer Keiji Inafune, after the release of Mega Man 8 on the PlayStation and Saturn, Capcom felt there was still interest for a new Mega Man game among younger players who couldn't afford current-gen consoles.  Despite this skew towards younger players, it is still a challenging game, even by "Mega Man" standards!

It doesn't stray far from the usual Mega Man gameplay formula, and its most unique feature is in the title itself - being able to play as Bass, who has different abilities than Mega Man, as well as a different story.  Whoever you play as, you'll still be up against eight Robot Masters, though two of them - Astro Man and Tengu Man - are strangely reused from Mega Man 8, though with different weapons.  The other six - Dynamo Man, Cold Man, Burner Man, Pirate Man, Ground Man, and Magic Man - use similar weapons and have the same weakness order as the original six Robot Masters from the first game - Elec Man, Ice Man, Fire Man, Bomb Man, Guts Man and Cut Man - so there's some interesting trivia, especially if it was, indeed, intentional!  And it does reference past games, with the legacy of characters featured in the Data Base that you have to find CDs for - a whole 100 of them, scattered across the game.

Despite being a solid Mega Man game, it doesn't have a number in its title, and is omitted from Mega Man: Anniversary Collection (2004) and Mega Man: Legacy Collection 2 (2017).  This team-up is often considered a spin-off (like the Fast & Furious film, Hobbs & Shaw, which also comes between the eighth and ninth installment of the main series), but that undersells it.  If it must be considered a spin-off, then it's the best Mega Man spin-off there is.  It's certainly worthy of more attention than it gets.

So to recognize the effort put into mapping this underrated Mega Man gem, Geminiman's Rockman & Forte (J) (Super NES) maps will be known as VGMaps.com's Maps Of The Month for December 2023.

I remember some conversation about this.  It's nice to hear that the maps are now done, though unmarked.

Unmarked maps are still great assets if people want the graphics for their own projects, whether it be fan games, sprite comics, green screen backgrounds or YouTube thumbnails, or something as simple as a nice wallpaper for their computer or phone.

But, if he insists on not releasing them like that at all, then yes, hopefully, someone can step up to help with marking them up.  I think all RPGs should indeed have marked maps.  (In a perfect world, why not both?)

The full actual title is "Shinsetsu Samurai Spirits: Bushidō Retsuden", isn't it?  Just throwing it in here so it shows up if someone searches for it.

Well, I finally finished The Legend Of Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom!

176 days straight, usually playing 91 minutes a day. Total is 305 hours or more.

So I guess the game is only about 20 hours without all the side quests as such, as I mentioned I had 285 hours done earlier.

The only thing done but not checked off is the "Secret Treasure Under the Great Fish" Side Quest that Sidon gives for the Vah Ruta Divine Helm, because he won't appear for me for some reason.  I already found it, but that didn't stop other Side Quests from appearing when I talk to the Side Quest-giver and then being completed immediately...  Maybe it's a glitch that gets fixed in an update, but I never updated the game...

In the end, I took a total of 1076 screenshots and videos, including 102 on the final boss/ending alone.  Is that a lot of screenshots?

Kind of feels weird to know that I can play a different game tomorrow.

Despite being busy with other projects, on a whim, I made collages of the CD "Data Base" records (of the Robot Masters and other characters up to that point) in both Rockman & Forte (J) (Super Famicom) and Mega Man & Bass (GBA).  So, yes, now we have a spot for Mega Man & Bass...

16 years late, I finally decided to relist "Mega Man & Bass" under the Super NES to its proper Japanese name of "Rockman & Forte (J)", as this was a Super Famicom game that was exclusive to Japan, so I should treat it on that page as such.  If you use the bookmark that points to #MegaManBass, it will still take you to the maps, just as how #RockmanForte also worked before and still works.  Basically, they both worked then and they both work now.

That being said, I also noticed that the later release on the GBA that did come to the rest of the world, we don't actually have maps for.  I imagine they'd be similar to the Super Famicom version, but they would still be nice to have.

This week's episode of "Jon 'N Jason In Japan" will appeal to gamers, as my brother and I shop at Nintendo Tokyo, the Capcom Store, and Pokémon Centers, and eat at the Pokémon Café.

John Brain, who has mapped many Genesis games, has submitted a full map set for The Revenge Of Shinobi!

I didn't have a Sega Genesis growing up, but a few friends did, and as this seemed to be a common game in their collections, so I'd quickly understood this to be a Genesis classic!  So it's surprising that it's taken this long to be mapped, but now it's finally immortalized in map form, so all is well!  Thanks yet again, John Brain!

As of now, my Genesis requests are almost totally fulfilled.  All I have left is Treasure's intriguing McDonald's Treasureland Adventure...  I'm sure if I took the time to look over the Genesis library, I might be able to find more, but at the moment, for what it's worth, I'd really like to see this licensed McDonald's game - from the makers of Gunstar Heroes, no less - to be fully mapped, so maybe leaving that as the only one of Genesis requests will make that more likely to be fulfilled sooner...

Time for another episode of "Jon 'N Jason In Japan"!  My brother and I go to Yokohama to check out the giant Gundam and visit the Hakkeijima Sea Paradise, then return to Tokyo to see the iconic Shibuya Scramble Crossing and then dissolve some bears into soup at Kumachan Onsen.
