I finished watching the Japan vlog series today. I liked them very much. Very great musical selection, so much content flowing together by the great editing and it was just so much fun to watch them. Thank you for creating this series. :)
I think day 10 was easily my highlight just by how the longer like-one-take interaction scenes made me feel as if I was there with you in these spots.

Sadly, we've already entered an era where game and software preservation has become very difficult if not impossible in most cases. I'm afraid on-going patches (including day-one), essential server-side components and, of course, software-as-service will eventually lead to huge portions of online content to essentially vanish forever.
It's bad enough for games but movies and TV shows will soon cease to be available on physical format altogether.
Piracy will eventually be unavoidable for those but for most online games, there will simply be no alternative :(.

Is this an unofficial PC-port of the game, that based on J2ME emulator + .jar game files?

The page goes into detail about how they were able to extract the games and make them playable.  They never refer to the files as ROMs, but they do bundle them with the DoCoMo Java (DoJa) emulator, so it is therefore described as emulation rather than directly porting them to the PC.

It's pretty cool how things like these can be found and preserved so that they might not be entirely lost.  Makes you wonder how many things have gotten lost and forgotten because they're not popular or interesting enough, or worth the effort for someone to figure it all out.

On that page, RockmanCosmo, the leader of a team called SciLab Secrets working to preserve lost Rockman games for Japanese mobiles, announced eight Rockman games (including games based on the classic, Legends/Dash, and Battle Network series).  There's also a link there for easy installation so you can get right to them.

Better yet, here's a link where you can download a later package that also includes Rockman Tennis.

(As I'm working on videos about my brother's Mega Man 2 haul at Christmas, plus another video where he plays all the games that relate in some way to Mega Man 2, I'm particularly interested in Rockman Pinball and Rockman Tennis.  Those games are exactly what you expect them to be.)

Some of those are mappable.  I don't know how much interest there would be, but I think that their obscurity alone is probably a good reason to consider doing so, to help prevent these curiosities from being forgotten/unknown.

Ah, okay.  Just curious.

The Super Star Wars games are interesting to me personally.  Growing up in the '80s, I was certainly aware of Star Wars, and probably saw them then, but might have been too young to remember or "get" them.  In the Super NES days, I rented games very often, and I certainly rented and enjoyed the Super Star Wars games.  These awakened the interest in Star Wars for me, so I watched the movies again, but now was old enough to understand and appreciate them.  So my true Star Wars fandom actually started, in a way, with the Super NES games.  Looking back on them, they do have a bunch of weird inconsistencies and creative licenses when compared to the movies, which are easy to criticize, but if not for the games as a whole, what would have made me a Star Wars fan, if at all?  Would it have been Shadows Of The Empire?  Or the Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace film?  Would I have even wanted my mom to line up for seven hours to get tickets for it?  (I mean, she did, but only because I was a Star Wars fan already by then.)  It would be weird if it was the prequel trilogy that would make me a fan... and would that really?  Not to be a bandwagon hater of them... but I think I have more "cred" to say that I've been a fan since the time of the original trilogy (even if by the Super NES games it was already the '90s and closer to 1999's The Phantom Menace than 1983's Return Of The Jedi)...

That said, I know the Super Star Wars trilogy has its fans, so it has always been odd to me that all we have after all this time are just two unmarked maps from the early areas of the first game by Will Mallia.  If there are technical challenges with these games specifically, I suppose that might explain why we don't have more, but I hope one day that changes.

Not so much given up, but i've put that on hold in favor of getting other things done. There's going to be a lot of work involved in Super Star Wars.

One of the first things I did was make codes, including x/y coordinate mods to see where i'm at on the map. After flying all the way to the end of Hoth (stage 1) I checked the coordinates, which suggest the first map of the game is supposed to be 17904x3616.

I've briefly explored other games too and hesitate to commit due to not knowing if I will be successful. From what I can tell, the maps in Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure on NES would all be 12000x6000 in size.

I did actually finish Surf Ninjas though after getting side tracked for a few years.

Some good choices there!

Looks like you got most of your 2023 planned maps done.  Great job!

But does that mean you gave up on Super Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back?

Maps Of The Month / 2024/01: Summon Night: Swordcraft Story 2 (GBA) - qwert_vs_qwerty
« Last post by JonLeung on December 31, 2023, 08:39:23 pm »

For this month's "Maps Of The Month" featurette, I wish to draw your attention to qwert_vs_qwerty's Summon Night: Swordcraft Story 2 (GBA) maps.

As Edgar or Aera Colthearts, you are an aspiring Craftknight.  When investigating some ruins, an evil Summoner named Gedharm Camcarossa arrives and forces you to lead him inside to a seal holding back an ancient evil, the Summon Beast known as Goura.  With the seal broken, Goura's return is a threat to the world, so it's now up to you and your Guardian Beast to find a way to defeat and seal away Goura again.

As the title suggests, there is a focus on crafting in this adventure.  You can craft five varieties of weapons by using the appropriate Shapestone and various materials that you will find on your journey.  Action RPGs have sprawling worlds, and Summon Night: Swordcraft Story 2 is no different.  Whether you're hunting for Rare Medals in underground caves or just trying to navigate through the many doors and pits in Goura Labyrinth, qwert_vs_qwerty's fully-marked maps will certainly have you covered as you play this underrated GBA epic!

So to recognize the effort put into crafting this story's maps, qwert_vs_qwerty's Summon Night: Swordcraft Story 2 (GBA) maps will be known as VGMaps.com's Maps Of The Month for January 2024.
