Can someone identify a song?
« on: January 02, 2012, 11:26:00 pm »
Or has an app to do such a thing?

The main theme for the GameTrailers.com Game Of The Year Awards 2011 has a catchy tune.  It really sounds like it's from the Pirates Of The Caribbean, but I'd like to find the exact tune.  This isn't a (deliberate) plug for GameTrailers, but I'd really like to know.

I especially like the use of the short clip of it for the intros to each of the awards (coincidentally the Best Wii Game award is introduced by LEGO Pirates Of The Caribbean, but that's not the tune I'm referring to), then when they get to the final one, the Game Of The Year, they use a longer clip to make it more epic.  As cheesy as most awards shows are, I always enjoy the use of montages in such showdowns.

Does anyone know the name of the tune in question?

I know that several Windows program can scan an entire MP3 file and try to identify it, but the kind of recognition you're looking for seems to be exactly the kind of stuff Apple likes to advertise in their TV adds for the IPhone, IPad and co. I did a quick Google search and the following link came up:

5 Free Ways to Identify that Song Stuck in Your Head

Maybe that can somehow be of help.
Current project that are on hold because job burnout :
-Drill Dozer (GBA)
-Sonic 3D Blast (Genesis)
-Naya's Quest (PC)

I ended up using YouTube and just searched...

>_>

Hmmm...kind of short, though.  And it loses some epicness with too many replays...

TSFH creates wonderfull epic songs, if you like that kind of music. Check out album Invincible (2010), tracks Freedom Fighters, Master of Shadows, Black Blade or To Glory.

TSFH is my favorite company from these trailer production companies, you can also check out Immediate Music (same style as TSFH, IM has one public album Epicon released under band name Globus), E.S. Posthumus, Audiomachine or X-Ray Dog (little bit heavy on electronic).

I also like ExtremeMusic.com.  One of their songs that I like, Dun N Dusted, I immediately recognized when it was featured in a previous awards thing at GameTrailers.

I initially found ExtremeMusic.com after a lengthy search for the tune in one of Bulletproof Monk's trailers (you know, that Chow Yun-Fat and Sean William Scott movie), Psycho Slam.  ExtremeMusic.com has changed the design of their page and I haven't been there lately (and I can't right now because it's blocked at work), but at one time (if it's not still there), you could search for tunes by mood, which was/is neat.  All of this "production music", all these soundtrackesque tunes, are really handy for doing video montages (like I do now and then for special occasions) especially when you want something that fits a certain mood, and don't want something too familiar, and/or when you don't want words.

It's always interesting when a search for something brings you to a lot more.
