10,000th map anniversary
« on: March 25, 2008, 04:26:45 am »
I know that we are a little far from getting the 10,000th map on this site, but in when the time comes, if Jon and everybody else likes the idea, I think we should do something special on the website as 10,000 is a the largest number of maps we could achieve shortly. When doing something special I think it should be differently from the Super Smash and Megaman anniversaries. Any ideas?

We're less than a week away from a million hits.  The 10000th map will come soon enough.  In the past the hits were close to 100 x the number of maps, but a couple thousand ago the ratio became more in favour of the hits.

Did you have any ideas?  I'm sure the 10000th map will be a bigger deal than the 9000th (no one commented when we got over 9000, but 10000 is more of a milestone) but I wasn't really planning on mentioning it more than usual.

I mean, I suppose I could make a front-page random thing to my favorite map sets, now that you mention it...  :P  Other than that, I don't have any ideas...yet.

(Funny how these things creep up.  We didn't really do anything here for the 5th anniversary of the site.  Now the 6th is coming up...)

I have just come up with an exceedingly good idea to celebrate for the 10,000th map when we get it. We should start up a "Make your own Netnavi competition", yes you know what I mean, design your own PET if you know Megaman Battle Network very well and I have already composed some rules:

1. When designing a PET, designs from Megaman games or updated versions of them (taking Megaman, Gutsman or Numberman for examples) are not acceptable.

2. When designing a PET, give the most understandable description of it. You can also design your own battle chips, special abilities, armour types, but be sure to mention strengths and weaknesses.

3. If you're a graphic artist or modifier, pictures of your PET are acceptable and you'll stand a better chance of getting a high rank.

4. If you design your own battlefield and place your PET in it, you're sure to get a high rank.

5. All competitioners PETs are respectively copyrighted to themselves and of course Capcom. Of course they are free to post their own designs to Megaman fansites if they wish.

The most reasonable time to give to competitioners would be exactly one year. At the end of that time, they will all recieve prizes.

1st Rank...Computer Titan - 3000 gold

2nd Rank...Laser Marshall - 2500 gold

3rd Rank...Electro General - 2000 gold

4th Rank...Cyber Colonel - 1500 gold

5th Rank...Digital Captain - 1000 gold

6th Rank...Sonic Lieutenant - 500 gold

7th Rank...Cannon Corporal - 250 gold

8th Rank...Future Novice - 100 gold

9th Rank...Laboratory Trainee - 50 gold

Note that more than one person can be in any of those ranks, but maybe few will have the highest rated Netnavi PETs. I do so want this event to take place, even though it is a little far from the sites main mapping purpose, in which April Fools maps are more connected than my suggestion.

As much of a big deal as the Mega Man mapping project seems to be, not everyone is *that* interested in Mega Man, or knows enough to even participate. I kinda think the idea is a little on the side of excluding people. Now if it was for Mega Man's 25th anniversary or something, maybe, but....

Wait, I'm pretty sure we've surpassed 10,000 now, in fact, we're probably close to 10,100 or 10,200 since this topic WAS created two months ago, in March.

There's only 9530 according to my VGMaps.com stats parser.  Of course the parser isn't perfect, so it could be more.

That sounds about right.  And it could be more.  If I was at home I could check for sure.

So wait, when you said we were nearly at 10,000 I thought you meant we were at about 9,950 not like 9,300 or something like that

Well at the rate that Will submits, we'll probably hit it in about a week or so. :P
