Hmm... There's a site somewhere that has maps for all the levels in I think Sonic 1, Sonic 2, Sonic 3, Sonic & Knuckles and I think Sonic CD as well.

The problem is, someone would have to map it and then offer those maps to the site. I remember the site you're talking about, and I'm not sure it's even online anymore. Those maps were extracted using SonEd, a sonic level editor and those maps were hosted on a site called the Sonic Stuff Research Group (or something similiar).

That site went offline several years ago thanks unfortunately to internet politics between sites and things like that and all I found afterward were heavily compressed and reduced versions of those maps. That sucks since the Sonic CD maps were really cool-looking. I wonder if someone, somewhere still has them...

I know who might have them.  He's not the original author of the maps though, so the odds of getting permission to put them here are slim.  There's a Sonic site that "mirrors things without asking", but most of its contributers are real garbage and I refuse to put any sort of link to the site.

DarkWolf, if you don't mind, I'd like to visit that link so feel free to PM it to me. Even though the maps won't be on VGMaps doesn't mean that we can't have access to them :)

Just to clarify that last sentence is a seperate idea and has nothing to do with the guy who might have them.

SSRG isn't dead. It's been alive for at least 2 years.

http://www.sonicresearch.org/

But it doesn't host maps any more... and that's not the website I was specifically thinking of anyway.

I think using the old version of SonEd in conjunction with savestates would allow us to recreate those maps pretty easily. The only ones hard to reproduce would be the Sonic CD ones, since you'd need the proper version of the game.
