King Arthur's World (SNES)
« on: May 11, 2007, 12:57:26 pm »
A strategy game that my cousin bought and said I should try. I liked it a lot even though the gameplay is pretty slow paced and the levels can become very frustrating later on. You can also play it with the mouse which gives you the option to scroll vertical instead of only horizontal.

The first 9 missions are pretty short and meant as a tutorial, but after that the levels quickly grow in size and difficulty. The tutorial levels are all completed (some are almost identical to each other) and I'm pretty much done with the first real mission.

I'm still trying to finish this someday, but a new job and some other real life stuff kept me from working on it much. Here are a few of the stages I've already finished.

'Only' six more stages to go.

These looks very good! I take it you've overcome the "black background" problem I remember you talking about?

I saw that game in an old Nintendo Power issue, but they didn't show anything except the first medieval theme. The caverns and cloud worlds look pretty cool, but I'll never play that game. I just suck too much at anything requiring even the smallest amount of strategy ;)

Yeah, I found a program called snespal which can modify the color palettes of a rom. Took me some time to figure out how it works as I don't have a lot of experience with stuff like that. But eventually I was able to change the black background to any color I wanted, which helped me a lot :)

It's not a game I would recommend to anyone. For me it just brings up nice memories when I used to play this for hours on a saturday afternoon. The fact that the gameplay is very slow, you can't save in a level and king Arthur dies pretty quick (which means game over) can make it very frustrating. Especially later on when some of the levels have a lot of doors/teleporters.

So yeah....finishing this took me a bit longer than expected.

When cleaning up my HDD's last week I found a directory with these maps in it and a modified King Arthur's World rom. Noticed I only had 6 maps left to do and add headers to the others, so I decided to finish them. Better late than never I guess ;)
