If it bothered to work on a true tile level it could also be very light on the server.
Yeah, I've seen one of those for The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. The coolest part about it was that they included screenshots at key locations, like the photos that show up in the real Google Maps. But for 2D games like that, I don't think it's very useful. Not to mention, I like saving maps to my hard drive. Online only stuff annoys me.
This reminds me of something I should go back to work on someday.
