QuoteEDIT: As of Mar. 31, 2012, this is now complete! Thanks to everyone who contributed!
Well, since Will Mallia reminded me, I did want to look at continuing on from our "NES Game Atlas" recreation topic (https://www.vgmaps.com/forums/index.php?topic=146.0) with a "Super NES Game Atlas" topic.
While the fourth Nintendo Power Player's Guide did focus on the Super NES, and was an incredible book at the time, it was meant to cover as many games as possible for the then-new Super NES and mostly had lots of tips and screenshots and the like. Some of the bigger games did have more than a couple pages and even had some maps (The Legend Of Zelda: A Link To The Past's Light World map was clearly constructed using pasted-together photos, then Super Castlevania IV had some cool renditions, and then there was Super Ghouls 'N Ghosts and Final Fantasy II/IV) but it was certainly not what one would call an "atlas". This topic considers what games would've been in a "Super NES Game Atlas", had Nintendo Power ever made it.
There are certainly some new franchises in this era and lots of other games worth mapping (such as all of those RPGs!) but imagining a "Super NES Game Atlas" as a mere continuation of the NES Game Atlas, the focus in this topic would be on the original eight franchises - though it's been reduced to seven. All of them have had less "main" games than on the NES - Zelda and Mega Man have the same number only if you include the spin-offs, and Mario has much more because of them.
I expect, as always, that people will map what they like when they feel like it, but for what it's worth, this would be the list of games as far as I know.

Double post! Though I'm doing this because I expect that the first post may be edited in the future as more games are mapped.
Currently, most of the major games on the list have already been done long before I made up the list. The biggest games remaining include SMW2: Yoshi's Island (Peardian?), TMNT IV: Turtles In Time, and Super Castlevania IV (TerraEsperZ?). And some Disney/Capcom games, and of those The Magical Quest Starring Mickey Mouse is probably the most memorable.
(If you count the Mega Man X games as Mega Man games (even though many would consider them separate from the non-X classics), then Mega Man X & Mega Man X 2 are on the list, though they're probably on their way to completion by Geminiman anyway (who's also done some maps for Bonkers).)
I don't expect this to be finished as quickly as the NES Atlas, if ever at all. I'm just throwing it out there (glances in Will Mallia's direction)...
If you were wondering, earlier I had Mickey Mania, Mickey's Ultimate Challenge, Maui Mallard In Cold Shadow, Pinocchio, The Lion King, and Toy Story on the list for the "Disney Dizziness" chapter, but have been removed as they weren't made by Capcom. Some may have been published by Capcom in certain parts of the world but the games were not developed by them. Not that there were ever "rules" that the games in this chapter had to be Disney games specifically developed by Capcom (the original NES Game Atlas only had Duck Tales and Chip 'N Dale: Rescue Rangers, after all), but aside from The Lion King (already mapped by Grizzly) and Mickey Mania (looked good from what I remember, at least), the other games just aren't any good, in my opinion. I doubt anyone would even want to map them. They're certainly not worth mapping over so many other games available on the Super NES. I wouldn't miss them.
I'd love to add my contribution to this, but I'll think I'll just stick to mapping one game at a time, what what a whopper of a game it is. If this topic is still around in about, oh... two years, I'll see what I can do, haha.

This looks like a job for Science!
Hello again Jon. I noticed that you added Mario is Missing and Mario's Time Machine to the SNES recreation list. If you don't mind me asking, how come you didn't put the NES versions of those two games in the NES recreation? I have reason to believe that they are certainly not as good as their SNES generations, because in Mario is Missing NES, there are no Koopalings and I particularly don't like the gameplay of Mario's Time Machine NES, because it reminds of a hack version (nothing personal). It's just my curiosity.
Hmmm, I hadn't really thought about it, Will. Those two games are kind of in the era of the Super NES where the NES still had support so they made NES versions of those same games. So while I may have been aware of the NES versions at the time, I would've only had the Super NES ones in mind if I had any inclination to play them.
I guess I also didn't think those NES games counted at all when I was making the NES Game Atlas recreation topic. I only had platformers in mind (though I did end up leaving All Night Nippon: Super Mario Bros. (or whatever it's called) off the list).
When I was putting together the Super NES list here, I was thinking that this was about the time big franchises were big enough for spin-offs (Super Mario Kart, Mega Man Soccer), even if there were some a generation earlier. Then remembering that you like to send in a couple cities at a time to me of the Super NES version of Mario Is Missing!, I did remember those "edutainment" titles this time around.
I'll think about it. I may add those two NES games onto the NES list (arrgh, that makes it incomplete!), or I may even remove those two games from this Super NES list.
The point is absolutely moot, though. Once you've finished mapping both versions of both games, people are going to look at those maps if they want to, because they are those maps, not because I chose to or didn't choose to put them on this list.
The purpose of this list is to enourage people to map certain games, and since you're well on your way to finishing Mario Is Missing! (Super NES) anyway, that shouldn't change anything.
Well, Mega Man X is now done, and I'm sure marioman will check that off his Mega Man checklist as well.
Guess we're still waiting on a few more from X 2...oh, yes, and the fields from Soccer... :P
Jon, remember you said you were thinking about whether to add Mario is Missing! and Mario's Time Machine in the NES Recreation section or to remove those two games from the SNES Recreation section. Well I just finished and sent in the complete set of NES Mario's Time Machine maps to you, so by the time you take a look at them, making the difficult decision should be a whole lot easier. I would not be surprised if you made the latter choice. After all I don't find these two edutainment games as impressive as other additional Mario games like Mario RPG. Megaman 2X will no doubt shortly be finished. Also do you think something ought to replace the Startropics Chapter seeing that they is nothing in that chapter?
...Megaman 2X...
That sounds like a hard game. I have enough trouble beating the Mega Man at 1X speed.
I thought it was supposed to be MegaMan ZX. :P
The SNES version of Mario's Time Machine would probably be really easy to map, since each area is only a screen or two long with nothing really happening. If you wanted to make it useful, you could try superimposing the pictures of the conversations and what items you can give and take at each place.
Do you think the surfing sections are mapped in the ROM like those ball-gathering bonus games in Sonic, or are they just random? (You can see I care way more about those silly Mario edutainment games than is called for.)
I don't quite see the point of mapping the SNES version of Mario's Time Machine when there's already a perfectly good finished version of the game, even though it's a NES port, as Jon previously pointed out. Unless someone finds an absolute need to...
Ryan, it would probably do you some good to read entire threads before making a post; you'll might find the answer to your question before you ask it sometimes.
---
This looks like a job for Science!
Ryan, the purpose of the edutainment game is to educate people, not to go through using maps. These maps are merely a collection of the Super Mario Bros. Series. If I were to show what items go where and what conversations to choose, the player would never ever learn from the game. Understand? Plus Megaman ZX is completely out of point in this discussion. If you want to chat in this particular topic, why not make maps of Aladdin, Mickey Mouse or something while you're at it?
But the NES version of Mario's Time Machine is completely different from the SNES one! Sorry I didn't notice there were already maps of the SNES version, though. I didn't care to guess what "X", "O", and "-" meant. But the NES version might be useful to map to try to show where invisible blocks and breakable blocks are.
You were not talking about the NES version of Mario's Time Machine before and I already said that I have completed and sent in the maps. Are you going to contribute to making maps or not?
Will, chill pill.
I have just finished both overworld maps of Yoshi's Safari, so it is technically complete once the maps arrive. But I don't think with just those two, the game would be considered as complete. Mapping the areas what with their appearance in 3D mode is another matter. I think someone should be able to make maps of the 12 areas in the form of bird's eye view showing all the possible routes in the track. I'm not that kind of mapmaking turning one platform or genre into another, although I did sort of transform SNES Eye of the Beholder from the 3D style into a bird's eye view map by ripping graphics from parts of the game screen and making it just like an in-game-map. Still its different between an RPG and a target shooter game, it's like a constant moving version of Time Crisis. The only game which has a similar genre to Yoshi's Safari that I know of is Jazz Jackrabbit, The bonus levels. I think one of you April Fool mapmakers has what it takes to transform the remaining Yoshi Safari maps. I could only do it myself if I were provided simple but approximate original maps of the areas.
However the Super Mario Kart maps were ripped, I imagine Yoshi's Safari could be done the same way. If I recall, it's just an angled rotating flat surface thanks to the power of Mode 7, so it can certainly be mapped.
I cannot seem to find Mario and Wario anywhere, being a Japanese game I don't know what it's japanese title is in translated Japanese symbols to our international alphabet.
I'm pretty sure it's "
Mario & Wario", though GameFAQs also lists it as "Mario to Wario".
"to" being Japanese for "and". Try looking it up on Wikipedia.
At last "Mario is Missing!" is finally finished. I have already sent in the remaining maps of Rio de Janeiro and New York over. Jon, if you still don't know whether you should keep the edutainment games here or not I have a vital article from Wikipedia:
"Since this game was not actually developed by Nintendo or Shigeru Miyamoto (they sublicensed the characters), it bears little resemblance to earlier Mario titles."
Of course this piece of the article means the two games are best removed from the list, but of course this doesn't matter to me, my maps will be up on the site all the same and anyway that decreases the number of games to be mapped so the SNES recreation can be finished quicker. I'll think about what to do next.
Lastly Peardian and Stefan Mahrla, are you ready to resume your work on Yoshi's Island and finish the map set?
Stefan's not much of a regular, though we do see him sometimes.
I don't know why Peardian hasn't signed up, but I think he said he wanted to work on other things before returning to Yoshi's Island.
I'm on to mapping "Mega Man Soccer". I know what you're thinking 'about time too'. Already I have done half the football fields. And I just know that game maps will be here on the site the very next weekend.
Thank you! I can't wait to see the finished maps.
I feel like Super Metroid should be somewhere on this list. =P

"So this is what it's like..."
- Spark Mandrill
Metroid was not in the original atlas, so it will not be in this one either.
Not that the Metroid series isn't worthy. I sure would like Super Metroid maps too.
Actually, Super Metroid had its own Player's Guide. (I still keep my grid-paper in-game map in mine! :D) Maybe we'll make another topic to tackle every game that ever had their own dedicated Player's Guide from Nintendo Power. o_0 Though after the Super NES era, they really churned out so many, pretty much every major first-party game. The quality of most of the N64-and-later guides never seemed as good as the old ones. Or at least, much less original artwork specifically for the Player's Guide. Mario Mania (the one about Mario, but also the then-new Super Mario World) and The Legend Of Zelda: A Link To The Past were two of the best ones.
Hmmm, like Super Metroid, they also had a Nintendo Power comic. The trifecta of perfection, those three. The real Triforce. LOL, I'm such a geek.
I have entirely finished the Mega Man Soccer maps and submitted them. Almost everything is finished in Chapter 3, all we need to do is wait for Geminiman to finish off Mega Man X2.
If you ever think about putting Super Metroid as a replacement chapter for Startropics, you can call that chapter "Microchip Metroid", that'll sound influencing. I'm already onto Mario & Wario and so far finished Level 1.
I was thinking more the Donkey Kong Country trilogy, actually...
I always thought the DKC games'd be hell to map...
and would you just be doing the foreground, or backgrounds as well?
Yes absolutely correct Ultimate Koopa. What sort of chapter name should the Donkey Kong Country series have in this recreation atlas? How about Diabolic Kong Congo for starters.
Today the Mario edutainment games finally are removed from the list as per my logical reason from the Wikipedia article. I'm already onto Level 2 of Mario & Wario. Those levels are a lot larger than Level 1.
Diabolic Kong Congo (DKC) -- rofl?
I really wish I could do some of these ... but one thing I always wonder, how do you make a screenshot of a screen with an enemy, then take the next screenshot without the same enemy appearing on the 2nd screen? Or do you somehow 'paste' the background over it to erase any copies?
What have you been eating Ultimate Koopa? Lol! Are telling us you know how to do a simple thing like layer and sprite switching? I use Zsnesw142 to do that. Press buttons 1-4 to toggle the layers. Layers 1-4 are the backgrounds to the foregrounds. Sprite layer are the animated portable objects like the playing character. Sometimes when you're moving around, the second background moves slower than the first background so that its hard to align them and paste them together. The strategy is to make a screenshot of the 1st background and paste it over the 2nd background then paste on the foregrounds and sprites. For example paste trees over a hill and not vice versa. You'll soon get the hang of it I'm sure. Look it up in Mapping Tips and Guides.
1. Disable sprites in the emulator. Works great if you don't want any enemies on the map at all.
2. Use the image editor's eraser to remove the part with the enemy before you "fuse" it into the background. Works great in Paint Shop Pro with its "floating" pastes. This is what I do mostly.
3. Use the game's tile-based nature to overdraw the parts in question with graphics sourced elsewhere. I do this when there's bits I can't easily fix with #2.
I was thinking something like that. I am aware of layer switching, though <_<
Mega Man Soccer/Mega Man's Soccer is up! That'll be checked off here, I expect marioman will soon check it off his Mega Man checklist as well.
Mario & Wario (J) has been started by Will Mallia, knocking out the last
X in the Mario chapter. Thanks, Will!
Yoshi's Safari has been completed by Mike007. Thanks, Mike! Also, Piranhaplant is considering mapping Yoshi's Island. The Mario chapter is almost complete!
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the maps Zeric contributed for
Mega Man X 2 today has completed not only that, but also the "
Mega Mechanical Mayhem" chapter!
I'll let marioman check that off his own Mega Man list...
And someone put up some Yoshi's Island maps. Not sure which ones though. It's a nice game. I hope that it will be fully mapped some day.
Yes, the Mega Man X2 maps complete the game. Checking off of my list now.
Sorry, yes, Piranhaplant submitted Worlds 2-2 and 2-4 to Yoshi's Island...forgot to mention that in the excitement about the Mega Man chapter's completion...
You know... it has been suggested before... I think, but (off-topic) could you add something which shows a 'New' icon beside maps which have been recently added? Another idea, although which wouldn't work, would be to add a column showing the date the map was added, however, you'd have to somehow find out when all 10,000+ maps were added from May 6, 2002.
This is something I've asked for multiple time .It would be trivial to add a timestamp if this site ran off a database (hint hint).
That's gonna take a lot of space in every atlas and Jon probably can't remember every individual map ever put up. An extra column will be required and I think it would be best to remove the format column, as most of the maps are ripped and only a few are original, so the original maps should be indicated in colour code, red for original and the standard weblink colour for ripped.
I don't think it would be necessary to go back and add dates for everything, just leave older ones blank and add them for new/updated maps. I think the format col
Well it isn't REALLY necessary to have the actual date, I mean... apart from the fact that someone might want to.. I dunno, see which maps were added on their birthday or something... there wouldn't be much point now that I think about it... but something which actually tells you which maps are new... or say, which maps you haven't actually looked at... even if you haven't looked at a particular map ever, since May 6, 2002.
Assuming I ever get around to a database system, a timestamp tells you what's new, without the hassle of adding/removing "NEW" indicators.
Of course, if there was a more sophisticated system, I suppose the "NEW" indicators could be automated too, based on the timestamp, i.e. if it's older than a week or two.
Either way, though, unless I suddenly get a lot of free time (unlikely) or can pay someone that I trust to convert the entire site (while keeping it easy for my codephobic self), a site conversion isn't happening in the near future.
I have certainly thought about it, and I'm not opposed to it. It's just not on the horizon.
This my final comment for an off topic in that topic. I think it is a good idea to display on the home page dates of when the games were fully mapped. For example there is a large gap from when Piranhaplant sent in his first map of Zombies Ate my Neighbours to the last of his maps which was only last week. It would be wiping out some records, but it would be economical and save a lot of space. Discussion over for me. Level 6 of Mario & Wario is finished and I'm halfway through Level 7.
That's true, that is a bit off-topic.
Though I suppose (and don't expect any miracles) if we want to talk about what we would like to see in a possible site makeover, someone could start a topic specifically about that - actually, wait, I'll make a topic myself later today about that. Then we could also discuss viable options, who might be able to help out, etc., so that when I do have time to get my hands dirty at least we'll have an idea where we're going with it and I (or we) would actually be making changes that people want, and features that people would actually use.
EDIT:
Here's that topic. Topic 777, no less. Must be a sign.
Oh, and...50th post!
Will, I was expecting you to have finished Mario & Wario (J) by now... :/
That's what think Jon. There are more levels than 8 as I just discovered. I would have gotten it done in a jiffy if it weren't for the black background you get when disabling layers.
I've managed to finish and complete Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - Tournament Fighters and those fighting stages are brilliant. Too bad Yoshi's Island hasn't progressed much. Talking of that, did you know that 'Yoshi' is the Japanese word for 'love'? You might call Yoshi 'The love dinosaur' like Herbie the Love Bug.
That's cool will. actually yes, I knew the Yoshi was lovable. =)
I've just put up Will's contribution of the Super NES version (i.e. the best version) of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Tournament Fighters.
Also, another map of Will's for Mario & Wario (J). How many levels are there? I remember reading 13 last I checked...
I've finished the final level of Mario & Wario at last. It turns out there are 10 levels and an extra level in the whole game.
Will's contributions as he mentioned are now up.
Ah, my eyes! That background for the EX level is awful. Oh well, good job Will.
So this leaves one Mario game for the SNES? Yoshi's Island is a very nice game. (Gameplay-wise and visually.) I am sure that the maps for it will will look really good.
In reply to JonLeung at 07/04/2008 8:05:56 AM:
About Mickey Mania: "I doubt anyone would even want to map them. They're certainly not worth mapping over so many other games available on the Super NES. I wouldn't miss them."
I started working on Mickey Mania a while ago, but it's a hard game to map. I might finish it one day, but if anyone else wants to do it, I really wouldn't mind.
I remember playing "Toy Story" on the SNES, I'll see if I still like it and maybe start mapping it after I finish...
... Yoshi's Island. I finished World 2 and already sent it to Jon, so hopefully it will be added this weekend. The other maps will follow.
Will has started work on
The Magical Quest: Starring Mickey Mouse.
And Sander has contributed some of Worlds 2 and 3 of
Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island.
And Sander has added some more of World 3 of
Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island.
(Peardian also states he wants to resume mapping that...hopefully you guys can work it out nicely...)
I contacted Peardian about it, and we worked something out :)
Out of curiosity, what exactly are you going to do ZanderZ with Peardian? I'm thinking you'll do half the remaining levels and Peardian will do the other half. Teamwork is more fun than solo, but we all do one of each.
Whether one person does it or more doesn't matter much to me, what should matter is consistency. Which is a lot easier if one person's doing it, obviously. (But if you look at Mega Man: The Wily Wars, the two Oracle GBC Zelda games, Super Mario Bros. 3, and the topic about Castlevania: Symphony Of The Night, you can see it is possible if there is room for discussion.)
Right now we've got a number of Yoshi's Island maps but they're from different mappers. We've got some broken up in pieces and some as a single image per stage, some that are JPEGs and some that are PNGs, some that don't have backgrounds and some that do...
(Ideally they should be single-image PNGs with backgrounds...hint hint...)
Then you have things like whether or not or how exactly to place enemies and/or items and/or dynamic elements like moving platforms, whether the "blank"/"unreachable" areas are filled in and how, how the "rooms" are arranged and connected (and if they fit on a grid), what background colour is used for any non-gameplay/"outside" area of the image, how copyright/title/etc. information is presented if they are at all...so on and so forth.
@Will: Peardian said he wants to remap ALL levels again, including his own. But he has some other projects so it might take up to two years before he finishes everything.
@Jon: ofcourse I'll do them as PNG. Making JPEGs of it makes no sense because the files will be bigger in size and the compression ruins everything.
However, I will not add the backgrounds to my images. I feel it's very distracting and does not give any advantages over not having a background.
So the way it is now, I will finish up all remaining levels (I just realised all worlds also have 1 bonus level, which means I will have to finish each level at 100%, so these levels will probably be done last) and when Peardian does his new take, Jon can decide which version to keep.
I guess Peardian will include the background, so probably his new versions will replace mine but that's fine with me when the time comes.
Didn't mention that Rick Bruns started on
Donkey Kong Country, which had been discussed earlier though not part of the list, going strictly with the series only in the original NES Game Atlas. But they're still pretty sweet. Knowing Rick Bruns we'll eventually have the whole game, and hopefully he'll want to do the whole trilogy as well.
I'm excited to see that Yoshi's Island will be taken care of...now how about some Super Castlevania IV? Didn't Terra start that? >_>
Nope. That map was more of a "proof of concept", mostly because I liked the game and had never really mapped a SNES game before (except for Prince Of Persia which I dropped midway through).
I never had any intention of mapping past the first stage, the famous "black-on-black" layer separation problem being the biggest obstacles.
Besides, I'm trying to complete some of the maps I've started before doing anything else, and my signature is proof that I'm really, *really* far behind.
---
Current projects: Metal Storm (NES), Clock Tower (SNES), Ristar-The Shooting Star (Gen), Sonic The Hedgehog (Gen), Sonic CD (Sega CD), Mega Man Zero (GBA), Battletoads (NES), Bucky O'Hare (NES)
ZanderZ said:I feel it's very distracting and does not give any advantages over not having a background.
Strangely enough, I feel exactly the opposite about backgrounds. Maps without backgrounds look empty to me. The backgrounds make the maps look more like environments than mere diagrams.
I've completed the remaing Turtles in Time stage maps. All except for Scene 3 and Scene 8 which are bonus levels. Scene 3 is a long, long extending level which is beyond my attempt to map and Scene 8 is a 3D mode moving map. Do you think mapping the bonus levels is nessecary to complete the chapter or do you think the chapter is completed well enough?
Sure, Will, I guess we could say that you're done with
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles IV: Turtles In Time. And on that note,
Chapter 7: Turtles In Trouble is done! And I guess unless someone does find a way to map those two stages, that chapter is entirely yours...good work!
Regarding Bonkers, I've got the Hollywood Map and I just finished the Downtown stage. That stage is bigger than the first two. The only thing missing is the Boss name, except I can't get appropriate letters. "It's called Toon Helicopter & Rat-Bat. The Letters I'm missing are 'H', 'C', 'P', 'T' and 'A'. Can anyone provide these letters in the font Geminiman used?
I put up your two maps for Bonkers, Will. Hopefully you worked it out with Geminiman if he still had intention of mapping it.
Regarding the font, I swear I've seen it in other Capcom Super NES games. Try Disney's Magical Quest: Starring Mickey Mouse, maybe it has those letters in that font? I guess you just need them to once say the word "patch" and you'll have it covered. :P
I swear, every game should have a pangram in it. Like "Waltz, nymph, for quick jigs vex Bud" or "Jack, love my big wad of sphinx quartz" so that we can rip the font easily. :P
Most emulators ought to let you see all the tiles loaded into video memory/CHR ROM, from which you can generally grab an entire alphabet. Else, hack the game text yourself. Title screens often have an incomplete alphabet but game text usually has a whole one.
This is good for hacking the game text.
Just to let you all know, I'm not dead :P I've been very busy with school lately, so I hardly had any time to work on the YI maps. That, and my sister bought a Wii which is very time-consuming...
I can probably do some maps the next week, so hopefully I finish some of them in time for next weeks update.
I have completed the rest of Bonkers. All six stages will be up and showing.
Yup, Will sure has indeed finished off
Bonkers.
Also from Will, a bit more of
The Magical Quest: Starring Mickey Mouse.
Took me some time to make it to this point. I've finished halfway through "The Magical Quest". I now await what comes next in Pete's peak.
I'm working on some more maps from Yoshi's Island, and fixing my old maps. Adding backgrounds on the 2-4 map is hard, because the default color that ZSNES makes as the background when you disable all the layers is used in the level, but I'm working on it.
---
Games I have mapped--Zombies Ate My Neighbors (SNES), Mario Party 3 (N64), Super Mario Bros Deluxe (GBC), New Super Mario Bros. (DS), Mario Kart DS (DS)
The more I look at my old YI maps, the more I want to go back and redo them, but I have so much on my plate already. I'm impressed by the quality of Piranhaplant's latest maps. In fact, his updated 2-2 map looks almost exactly like how I would have done it, with a few stylistic differences of course. I'm feeling rather bleh right now, but I might put my other maps on the backburner right now and focus on fixing my old YI maps. Maybe. Oh and map all the other fortress/castle levels that Piranhaplant hasn't gotten to yet. I do love castles~

I've finally managed to reach the final stage 6: Pete's Castle in the Magical Quest. Stages 4 and 5 are shorter and easier than the previous ones but soon comes my chance to finally finish mapping that game. Pete's Castle is quite big and complicated, but I've handled that sort so far.
Now once and for all I've completed "The Magical Quest - Starring Mickey Mouse"! Another game to finally tick off the list, the very coming weekend.
Good job, Will! With Christmas holidays coming up, the next update could be earlier or later, probably earlier.
Are you going to tackle Aladdin next?
I might do Aladdin, although there is the stage "A Whole new World" where Aladdin and Jasmine and riding the carpet across the world in the night and all you have to do is collect gems. That stage I am not capable of mapping due to the vast amount of clouds, scattered gems, up and down going and long backgrounds. What I'll do next, I'll leave it as a surprise.
Okay, I found time to put up the remaining
The Magical Quest: Starring Mickey Mouse maps today after all.
Another green "
O", so
Chapter 5: Disney Dizziness is half done now! Thanks, Will!
Will Mallia started Disney's
Aladdin.
Today, more of Tropicon's work on
Super Castlevania IV and one more area of
Aladdin from Will Mallia are up.
I've put up the last of Topicon's maps for
Super Castlevania IV so that also completes
Chapter 8: Castles Of Horror! Thanks, Tropicon!
I've finished the second stage "Cave of Wonders" and I'm halfway through the third stage "Collapsing Cave" on the rug riding area.
Will Mallia continued with more maps from Disney's
Aladdin, which are up now.
Also today, he submitted Advanced D&D: Eye Of The Beholder and Arabian Nights (J). He has submitted three games alphabetically next to each other on the Super NES page... (He also submitted Aero Fighters 2 for the Neo-Geo, which I'll put up soon.) What's with the fixation with the letter A today, Will?
Also, apparently Aladdin is one of the best-known stories from 1001 Arabian Nights, however was not part of the original.
The more you know...
The A letter titles are purely coincidental. I'm now halfway through the 5th Aladdin Stage.
I wonder why no game company ever made a sequel of the Aladdin game based on the film after the first film called "Return of Jafar". What is more I'm wondering why not a single game of 'Ariel the Little Mermaid' was ever designed for SNES.
1. Wasn't the sequel released straight to video (DVD)?
2. Wasn't the SNES released quite a long time after the movie?
All Aladdin stages but 6 - "A Whole New World" are finished. While someone can complete this complicated stage I'm moving on to "The Great Circus Mystery Starring Mickey and Minnie". I looked all over the internet but no luck finding a moon jump cheat. Tropicon do the honours please.
Good job on finishing
Aladdin, Will! We'll be done Chapter 5 pretty quick at this rate!
If only Yoshi's Island wasn't so daunting...
I have a feeling mapping it will go faster once I get back into action. (Classwork and new schedule is still bogging me down.) I'm thinking of putting WL4 and YTT on hold (as if I've actually been mapping them actively <.<) in order to put YI back in full steam. With EggVine at my side, I could rip all the backgrounds in the game in a single day, plus fill in the impossible-to-reach areas. And with two people mapping it at the same time, it wouldn't take long. The hardest part will be just to get started. Argh, the classwork... Maybe I can get started this weekend.
Please save the castles for me, Piranhaplant. :3

Will has started
The Great Circus Mystery: Starring Mickey & Minnie and the first few maps are up.
It's strange how obscure this game is considering that
The Magical Quest: Starring Mickey Mouse was a hit. Or at least I was under the impression that it was.
Seems Capcom thought so too, since the GBA release is instead titled
The Magical Quest 2: Starring Mickey & Minnie, to make it clear that it's part of the same series.
Just wanted to say that I've started ripping the backgrounds as planned. And it looks like I was wrong. The Backgrounds aren't 512x512 like most games, but are in fact 512 x 1024. Unfortunately, the bottom 10 pixels are inaccessible because of the camera never dropping below a certain point, but then again it's not like they'll really be needed or can't be recreated. Currently ripping the cave background. Not sure how I'm going to handle the animation frames.

It occurs to me that I haven't put the titles of the stages on the maps for Yoshi's Island. I really should.
I always thought it was a joke between me and my brother about the silliness of the title "Touch Fuzzy, Get Dizzy" but apparently we're not the only ones in the world that love that title so, that it's been brought up many a time on the Internet. Though if anyone else is quoting other Yoshi's Island stage names, I don't think I would have noticed...
Yeah, I was going to suggest adding the proper names when I submitted the next map I made.
After several hours of nonstop ripping, I just got all the backgrounds from World 1, only one of which is a palette swap. I'll put it up for download in case anyone, especially Piranhaplant, wants them. Even if you're not mapping YI, the backgrounds area still nice to look at. I've also included animation frames for most of the animated ones.

Great job with those Peardian. It really makes me want to play the game again, as it's easily one of the prettiest SNES game ever made.

Current projects: Bucky O'Hare (NES), Metal Storm (NES), Clock Tower (SNES), Ristar-The Shooting Star (Gen), Sonic The Hedgehog (Gen), Sonic CD (Sega CD), Mega Man Zero (GBA), Battletoads (NES)
Do you want me to give credit on the map if I use your backgrounds Peardian?
---
Games I have mapped--Zombies Ate My Neighbors (SNES), Mario Party 3 (N64), Super Mario Bros Deluxe (GBC), New Super Mario Bros. (DS), Mario Kart DS (DS)
You can if you want, but I really don't care.
I'll start getting the rest of the backgrounds tomorrow. I know I said I could rip them all in one day, but I didn't count on burnout after 7 straight hours or so. I might have a high attention span, but I still get bored after long enough. :P

YTT (34%) - WL4 (60%) - PM (36%)
World 2 backgrounds are here. I would have had them earlier, but I spent most of the day programming in C and learning how to use IK Chains.
http://www.sendspace.com/file/8uljoi
You'll notice that there are less backgrounds in this pack. That's because I'm not including duplicates. Levels that don't have any backgrounds in the pack used ones straight from World 1. I may or may not have World 3's backgrounds done today as well. Either way, I'll have World 4's backgrounds by tomorrow. I'm sure Piranhaplant is looking forward to those. :P
On a side note, I absolutely love the castles/fortresses in this game, especially the music. In fact, mapping the castles is the biggest reason why I started mapping YI in the first place. My two favorite castles in the game are Naval Piranha's and Raphael the Raven's.

Pardon the bump, but I just wanted to draw attention to the fact I finished rippin the last of the backgrounds in Yoshi's Island! ...for the most part. Backgrounds not included are the moon and the lit version of Baby Bowser's room, but it's not like they'll be needed anytime soon / hard to get.
World 6: http://www.sendspace.com/file/ssz1o9
So, the backgrounds in the game are all ripped, and the weekend is coming up. That means I can go ahead and start remapping World 1. Also, I started mapping Doodle Woods in Wario Land 4 the other day on a whim. I'll finish that before I redo my first YI map and send them both in.

Is YTT "Yoshi Touch Training" or something? Is that what's known as Yoshi Touch & Go in Europe?
Wait, never mind. I forgot about Topsy-Turvy <_<
I finished the second stage of The Great Circus Mystery. Now I am really going to need to some codes for a moon jump and to stop background mist movement. Can anyone assist?
Yeah, it's Yoshi Topsy-Turvy. :P
And I finished the map for Welcome To Yoshi's Island! Hooray! It only took me about two hours. I also touched up each of the six world maps. And on top of that, I sent in the world map from Yoshi's Island: Super Mario Advance 3 that I made in 2005 and never sent in for some reason.

This weekend, I added another
The Great Circus Mystery: Starring Mickey & Minnie area from Will and Peardian redid the first area, "Welcome To Yoshi's Island", and the World Maps from
Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island.
Pearidan, while we are on the subject of YI, I would like to bring up the observation that I made before about your animated World 6 map. The map that you have up is shown after you compete the game. IIRC, there is a flagless map which is displayed after you beat World 5, but before you complete World 6.
I managed to reach Stage 4 The Caves in The Great Circus Mystery. The Fourth Stage seems to look a lot like Ninja Gaiden II: The Dark Sword of Chaos.
I just added Will's maps from
The Great Circus Mystery: Starring Mickey & Minnie and Piranhaplant did the map for World 4-2 in
Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island.
Man, Stage 2-Area 2 in The Great Circus Mystery isn't anything like the Battletoads stage in the snake pit, is it? o_0
Yeah, I know. I do plan on fixing this when I get the chance. I was planning on doing so when we get to mapping World 6, but that would take way too long. I'll probably do it whenever I make the next YI map or before then.

Just wanted to say that this week will be a busy week for me. I have YI 1-1 layed out and ready for ripping, all 50 rooms of Dry Dry Desert rendered and ready for arranging, and this weekend I'll be visiting home, which means I'll be able to redo my SMRPG maps. However, Satuday is Valentine's Day, so I'll also be busy making gifts for friends. If I don't finish the 1-1 map by tomorrow, you can expect it sometime over the weekend. As for the SMRPG maps, I could possibly have them all done in one day (after all, I just need to rearrange and label them) but we'll see.

I have completed "The Great Circus Mystery". I am immediately moving on to "The Magical Quest 3: Starry Mickey and Donald".
Will's completed
The Great Circus Mystery: Starring Mickey & Minnie! :D
And he's also started
The Magical Quest 3: Starring Mickey & Donald (J) which means that now every game has at least been started! Though at this point it's really only this and
Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island that's left, really.
(But if anyone wants to count the Donkey Kong Country trilogy in this, we now have the third stage, Reptile Rumble, from the first
Donkey Kong Country, as mapped by Rick Bruns.)
Good news and bad news. Bad news is, my weekend was full of time-consuming distractions, so I didn't have a lot of time to do anything. Also, my SMRPG map revamps will take longer than expected to finish. The reason is the good news. I've decided to basically redo my SMRPG maps from scratch, doing another entire playthrough and adding in NPC and enemy sprites where needbe to make my maps more complete than they were before. I finished up to the first Star Piece with Mack, and hope to finish more during the week. I'll also try to fit YI in there as well.
And we can't really toss the DKC trilogy out of the SNES atlas, they're too important. :P

Sorry I didn't get a chance to put up your Super Mario RPG map revamps this weekend, Peardian. (I had a long weekend too, it was Family Day here...but I was kept pretty busy myself.)
These new maps look incredible. Much better to have areas altogether like that. I like how you've put enemy stats and item locations.
I think the revamped Super Mario RPG maps will be a testament to how all Super NES RPGs should be mapped. And that is, thoroughly.
The 7th Saga and
Secret Of Evermore have earlier received similar treatment by KingKuros and Grizzly, at least regarding item locations.
I wonder if anyone will ever tackle Final Fantasy IV, V, and VI with such zeal. 0_0 Or any of the other big Squaresoft JRPGs.
So, Peardian, do you think you'll ever tackle Mario & Luigi: Partners In Time or Mario & Luigi 3? It seems like you're the Mario RPG fan around here. :)
RPG recreation sounds interesting. If there's going to be improved of those RPGs what would that make my Eye of the Beholder maps?
Anyway I am currently in the second stage of The Magical Quest 3. This game has seven instead six stages.
Now you've come to mention Mario & Luigi Partners in Time, here is a sample of a map from my NDS prototype mapping days.
I would definately if I could find a DS emulator with as much functionality as VBA or bgmapper for SNES savestates. My maps wouldn't look as good as possible if I was forced to rely on purely screenshots for a game like that. Also, since I have no idea how the battle system works in the game, I can't figure out the stats for enemies and there's no chart I can look up either. At least in MLSS, they used a simple Attack - Defense = Damage formula, but in MLPT, the damage is consistant yet unpredictable. I'm aware that TMK has somehow acquired stats for the enemies (shown in their recent Japan->US difference article) but nothing from MLPT is in their Mariopedia yet. I guess MLPT will just have to wait for now. As it is, I already have too many projects. :P

Yep, I've decided to (once again) shift my priorities and make SMRPG my main focus right now. Progress is being hindered right now by the fact I feel miserable right now due to illness, but I did manage to put together the Kero Sewers map. Depending on my mood, I might decide to go ahead and finish YI 1-1 after I remap Midas River, or I could just plow on through to Tadpole Pond. Either way, expect progress this weekend.

A quick update today of Tadpole Pond from
Super Mario RPG: Legend Of The Seven Stars, by Peardian, of course.
Frogfucious and Mallow are cool. And Toadofsky, definitely.
Big surprise I just completed and submitted the remaining stages of Magical Quest 3. Now that the Disney Diziness Chapter is complete, my work here is done and best of luck to Peardian and Pirahnaplant to finish Yoshi's Island.
Indeed, the addition of Will's maps of Stages 4 to 7 from
The Magical Quest 3: Starring Mickey & Donald (J) completes
Chapter 5: Disney Dizziness! :D Only Yoshi's Island stands in the way of the completion of this so-called "Super NES Game Atlas"!
Also, there are revised maps of Rose Town and Rose Way from
Super Mario RPG: Legend Of The Seven Stars by Peardian.
And though it doesn't quite please dbarrier54 quite yet, a revised version of Chocolate Island 2 from
Super Mario World by Stefan Mahrla is up now too.
I think I forgot to mention last week that Geminiman sent in a revised Blast Hornet map from
Mega Man X 3.
My weekend was very busy, and I had very little time to actually do anything. Only things I managed was to map Forest Maze (in a bit of a rush) and speedily rip me some VRML data from Dry Dry Outpost. This is the last week before spring break for me, so expect a sharp drop in activity from me, followed by a tremendous spike. I might be able to put together a Rose Town (after Bowyer) map in between my tests and projects due this week, but who knows.

How about some non-Nintendo love?
Now you mention it Maxim, that has given me an idea. I was thinking about a SMS + GG recreation Atlas in which the choice of games are what I would regard parallel to Nintendo game like Sonic instead of Mario for example. Here is my suggested list:
Chapter 1: Sonic Surfer
Sonic Blast, Sonic Chaos, Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Sonic the Hedgehog Spinball, +Sonic Drift, +Sonic Drift 2, +Sonic Labyrinth, +Sonic Triple Trouble, +Tail's Adventure, +Tail's Patrol.
Chapter 2: Alex All-Times
Alex Kidd: The Lost Stars, Alex Kidd BMX Trial, Alex Kidd in High-Tech World, Alex Kidd in Miracle World, Alex Kidd in Shinobi World.
Chapter 3: Marvel Mania
Spider-man: Return of the Sinister Six, Spider-man Vs. The Kingpin, The Incredible Hulk, X-men, X-men 3: Mojo's World, +Captain America and the Avengers, +Spider-Man and the X-men: Arcade's Revenge, +X-men 2: Game Master's Legacy.
Chapter 4: Wonder Whirl
Wonder Boy, Wonder Boy in Monster Land, Wonder Boy in Monster World, Wonder Boy III - The Dragon's Trap.
Chapter 5: Disney Dizziness
Aladdin, Bonkers Wax Up!, Castle of Illusion starring Mickey Mouse, Land of Illusion starring Mickey Mouse, Legend of Illusion starring Mickey Mouse, Mickey's Ultimate Challenge, Lucky Dime Caper starring Donald Duck, Deep Duck Trouble starring Donald Duck, The Jungle Book, The Lion King, +Ariel The Little Mermaid, +Talespin.
Chapter 6: Ninja Magic
Ninja Gaiden, +Ninja Gaiden
Chapter 7: Looney Tunes
Cheese Cat-astrophe starring Speedy Gonzalez, Daffy Duck in Hollywood, Taz-Mania, Taz: Escape from Mars, +Bugs Bunny in Crazy Castle, +Bugs Bunny in Double Trouble.
The '+' signs indicate Game Gear in addition to the SMS titles. I can't really think of an eighth chapter but all those chapters look quite vast. Does all that sound like a good idea?
Remembering the nostalgic feel of when I personally thought Nintendo Power was at its peak, the completion of the NES Game Atlas and the near-completion of the hypothetical Super NES Game Atlas certainly does lend itself to a "Game Boy Game Atlas". There was a Game Boy Player's Guide, just like there was a Super NES Player's Guide, but it didn't focus on maps. I didn't own the original Game Boy (but I got a Game Boy Pocket years later, and only because it was on sale because the Game Boy Colors were already out, and I bought a Super Game Boy just for Link's Awakening, and my only other game is Pok?mon: Red Version), but I had some familiarity because I had that Player's Guide and it was always present in Nintendo Power.
Not sure that everyone is particularly fond of the good old monochrome Game Boy (other than, say, RyuMaster), so it could be extended to the Game Boy Color. Maybe even the Game Boy Advance?
I'm pretty sure all the Zelda games are mapped (just greyscale the Link's Awakening DX maps if you want Link's Awakening (non-DX) maps :P), even all the way up to The Minish Cap, and all have been honoured as Maps of the Month (even concluding this very month with The Minish Cap). And I'm pretty sure the Mega Man games are all mapped thanks to marioman's topic, with the exception of Mega Man & Bass (but we have the Super NES...er, Super Famicom version all mapped out). I guess maybe there won't be many left to map out. Well, there's Super Mario Bros. Deluxe... There's Ninja Gaiden Shadow and the TMNT games... Hmmm. I know there were three Game Boy TMNT games, but are they (and the later GBA games) any good? And where's the full map of Castlevania: Aria Of Sorrow? 0_0 Well, maybe we could leave the GBA games out of it, or at least for now, since technically the age of the GBA isn't over - at least not for another month, when the DSi with no GBA slot comes out and leads to the inevitable discontinuation of the DS Lite...
I know that Will's always up for a challenge, and has contributed a lot to this and the previous topic. What does Will - and the rest of you - think about the Game Boy? If there's not much interest in the Game Boy, we could always make topics about particular series, and the popularity of marioman's Mega Man topic is a testament to that.
I agree with Peardian that Kirby has not gotten much attention here. Where are Kirby's Dream Land 3 and Kirby: Super Star? And as for non-Nintendo series, I should be appalled, or at least surprised, at the lack of the Sonic The Hedgehog games. If Sonic is the guy who stood up against Super Mario and fared pretty well, then where are the Sonic fans who would be mapping his games? And Final Fantasy - seriously - we have a few games mapped, but very few of the "main-numbered" ones (other than a few overworld maps, big whoop). Admittedly it'd take a long while for someone to do them, especially with the kind of care they deserve (a la Grizzly's Secret Of Evermore, KingKuros's The 7th Saga, or Peardian's revisions of Super Mario RPG), but considering the rabid FF fanbase, I would've thought we would've seen more than we have by now. Unless they're all VII-and-onwards fanboys (you know my feelings towards them). Even so, FF VII and FF VIII have PC versions (which might be easier to map) and those two, along with FF IX, have prerendered backgrounds, so you'd expect even them to be mapped. At least VII, sheesh. The most overrated game ever and no fanboys have yet mapped it - or at least not shared with VGMaps? Maybe my "shut-the-frick-up-about-FF VII-and-play-something-else-it's-been-over-a-decade-like-seriously" attitude scared them away, but I honestly think it would be awesome to have maps of that game.
And other than the FFs, Squaresoft's other games, especially those on the Super NES, including Chrono Trigger and Secret Of Mana, deserve nice maps, but those may be tall orders. The recent release of Chrono Trigger on the DS and Secret Of Mana on the Wii Virtual Console ensure there would be interest...though I know that doesn't make it any easier.
Will, your zeal for a possible "Master System Game Atlas" is great - I'm sure Maxim has been and could be a great help in that regard, however, I'm not sure I agree with your choices of series. Sonic, Alex Kidd, and Wonder Boy, unquestionably, but most of the others...ehhh. But what do I know, I grew up with Nintendo. I'm not going to make a Master System topic because of my lack of familiarity with it and its games, but if you want to do that, you're more than welcome to.
But if chapter names are still necessary, I think they could use a bit of work. :P
I think I'll probably do Link's Awakening just for completion. I actually mapped the overworld of Link's Awakening DX a few weeks ago. Osrevad's map had several errors, but I didn't want to step on any toes, what with the associated Map of the Month...
I've also mapped the first couple of worlds of Kirby's Dreamland (two different times, I might add), but the levels all start to look the same and I just never got around to finishing it. Maybe one of these days...
I might do Aria Of Sorrow. I've had the urge to go back to that for several years, but only recently asked for Zeric's blessing on doing that given that he'd started it a while back.

I imagine that the Gameboy Advance should have a separate atlas because it really is a different system from the old Gameboy and Gameboy Color.
As for Kirby, the main reason that the SNES games haven't really been mapped is because they use some kind of heavy compression that make their savestates turn up gibberish in bgmapper. I know Raccoon Sam started mapping KDL2 for the Gameboy but gave up, but I might take a swing at it myself. I need an excuse to play the game again. :P
Of course, as it is my plate is already so full of Mario, and I really want to map the Stafy games in the future. Blah, so much to do and so little time.

Revised Rose Town, Pipe Vault, and Yo'ster Isle maps from
Super Mario RPG: Legend Of The Seven Stars by Peardian.
As of today, I've mapped all the way up through the second version of Moleville, meaning I am more than halfway done with the game. I spent almost an entire day on the Coal Mines.
Why? Because I mapped out the Mole Mountain minecart minigame! All the coin and mushroom locations are shown. The last room was especially time consuming because it used tile displacement (like in Yoshi's Island when you get dizzy) to create the very smooth slopes on the rails. I had to do it adjust the tiles myself.
So yeah, on to Booster Pass!

Maps of Nimbus Land (with and without Valentina) from
Super Mario RPG: Legend Of The Seven Stars by Peardian have been put up today.
Well, since Will Mallia reminded me, I did want to look at continuing on from our "NES Game Atlas" recreation topic with a "Super NES Game Atlas" topic.

Please dbarrier. If you insist on pestering us, at least when you state what's incomplete, don't start listing every fucking game in the world.
E.g. "Nintendo 64 atlas".
Super Mario 64 is the only game that's incomplete
-- you'd stop about here--
-- however YOU have to do this kind of thing --
Mario Kart 64 = complete
a
big
list
of
every
N64
game
in
the
world
with
the
word
"complete"
next
to
it
which
is
highly
unnecessary
We KNOW what's incomplete and what's not. Can you just STOP pestering us, please?
I think he's trying to tell us that Mario RPG is actually incomplete even though it's marked otherwise in Jon's post.
But, was it really necessary to re-post the entire list? It would have been MUCH simpler if she would have just posted something like this:
dbarrier SHOULD HAVE said:Super Mario RPG should not be marked as complete on the list because the Booster Hill map has a problem.
See?
I don't disagree at all. I don't think she knows how people communicate.
Wahahahaha...
On that note, just finished Barrel Volcano map. Gotta love the Axem Rangers. <3
---
YTT (36%) - WL4 (64%) - PM (41%) - YI (13%) - SMRPG (93%)
I think the Axem rangers are funny and a pleasure to beat. No doubt they mock and spoof the Power rangers, but that doesn't matter, I never liked this television program anyway.
So it won't be too long I'm sure before Bowser's Keep and the Smithy Factory is finished.
The rather difficult-to-map Booster Hill from
Super Mario RPG: Legend Of The Seven Stars by Peardian has been put up today. :)
Nice one ;-)
Wow, that's a stunning map. It's amazine how some levels look when you get the whole-level overview.
Heh. Take THAT dbarrier.
Okay, now that April Fools' is over, it's time for some real maps.
Peardian has contributed Barrel Volcano, Bowser's Keep (the revisited version), and the Debug Room from
Super Mario RPG: Legend Of The Seven Stars. Nearly done!
Peardian has also contributed the revamped 1-1 from
Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island. That's exciting, can't want to see it all revamped!
Peardian has contributed the Smithy Factory, which completes the revision of the
Super Mario RPG: Legend Of The Seven Stars maps. Very well done!
It's so much better to only have 44 maps instead of 360+ or however many there were before. And it's another Super NES RPG mapped with so many other helpful details! Love 'em. :D
Peardian, I'm guessing that you will now turn your attention to Paper Mario and Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island?
The Super Mario RPG Maps are Incomplete
Please Correct the following error(s) before Continuing
Booster Hill not mapped
Oh, I mean, good job Peardian. *hides*
Peardian had a bit of a hiatus, but returns with the revamped 1-2 from
Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island.
(Still a few more stages before "Touch Fuzzy, Get Dizzy"...)
Forgot to mention yesterday that Peardian sent in the revamped 1-3 from
Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island.
Wow, I guess I haven't been in this topic since the hackings and subsequent installation of the new forums. That first post is a mess because the formatting didn't come through. I'll have to fix that at some point.
Anyway, Peardian has submitted a revamped 1-5: Hop! Hop! Donut Lifts from Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island (https://www.vgmaps.com/Atlas/SuperNES/index.htm#SuperMarioWorld2YoshisIsland).
Peardian has submitted 1-6: Shy-Guys On Stilts from Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island (https://www.vgmaps.com/Atlas/SuperNES/index.htm#SuperMarioWorld2YoshisIsland).
Soon we'll be touching Fuzzy and getting dizzy! :D
It may be Tuesday, but it's worth making time to put up Peardian's revised 1-7: Touch Fuzzy Get Dizzy from Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island (https://www.vgmaps.com/Atlas/SuperNES/index.htm#SuperMarioWorld2YoshisIsland). It's the 17th today, 1-7, okay, neat coincidence, but I just really like the title of this stage, and who doesn't?
(http://img69.imageshack.us/img69/6004/touchdizzygetfuzzy.png) (https://www.vgmaps.com/Atlas/SuperNES/index.htm#SuperMarioWorld2YoshisIsland)
I finally got around to fixing up the first post in this topic, I think...
Didn't realize the Star Trek coincidence until later...didn't it also just come out on DVD/Blu-Ray on the same day? I'm not a Star Trek fan by far but that picture with the Tribbles or whatever is one of the pictures that comes up when you search for "fuzzy" on Google ImageSearch.
Peardian has submitted 1-8: Salvo The Slime's Castle from Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island (https://www.vgmaps.com/Atlas/SuperNES/index.htm#SuperMarioWorld2YoshisIsland). Hooray for more maps!
(Though technically we actually have fewer maps when these revised ones are put up because the single maps replace multiple smaller maps of individual rooms. But everyone would agree it's better this way.)
Peardian is doing such an awesome job with those Yoshi's Island maps! Can't wait to see World 2 (as well as World 1 Extra, of course). ;D
Although this is ever so slightly off-topic, will you (Peardian) be doing the secret SMA3-exclusive stages? E.g. Exercise in the Skies? If you Do do the Secret stages, I'd love to see Endless World of Yoshies
Also, yeah, I'd love to see Extra 1, as well as things like The Impossible? Maze and Castles -- Masterpiece Set.
Going way ahead to I believe 6-5, is the cave actually as loooooooooong as it's name suggests? I know scrolling makes a stage seem longer than it is.
You should check the site again. Poochy Ain't Stupid has been up for three days now. :P
And, like it says in my progress topic (which I keep constantly up to date), I'm going to do the GBA secret stages after the original levels are taken care of. After all, you can only unlock them by beating Big Bad Baby Bowser first. :P
And yes, the level is quite long. If you were to put it all side-by-side and straightened out the loop in the first room, it would extend to around over three times the maximum room width, over 12,000 pixels. ;)
Even though it's not on the list, it's not a bad thing to mention that Super Metroid (https://www.vgmaps.com/Atlas/SuperNES/index.htm#SuperMetroid) has been fully mapped by Rick Bruns as of today! Hooray!
(EDIT: What a coincidence...I noticed the previous post said "Poochy Ain't Stupid", and today's Brawl In The Family comic features Poochy not being stupid (http://brawlinthefamily.keenspot.com/2011/05/03/330-good-dog-2/). Whoa.)
Well, I already know which game I want to be Map of the Month for June 2011. ;)
Peardian has submitted 3-7: Monkeys' Favorite Lake from Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island (https://www.vgmaps.com/Atlas/SuperNES/index.htm#SuperMarioWorld2YoshisIsland). Nice to see some progress there!
Today, we have 3-8: Naval Piranha's Castle from Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island (https://www.vgmaps.com/Atlas/SuperNES/index.htm#SuperMarioWorld2YoshisIsland), once again from Peardian. That's it for the regular stages from World 3!
I agree with him that Naval Piranha is one of the cooler Mario bosses...definitely one of the coolest ones in this game (even if it can be killed quite easily (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SDszKc0oW9Q)). It's probably cool because it's a giant variation of a very classic Mario enemy type, unlike most in this game...while yet not being too weird like Petey Piranha in Super Mario Sunshine, for example. I like to play as Naval Piranha in Tetris Attack for some reason, too.
Good work! It's definitely my favourite boss from the game, especially since the battle features the more serious boss music.
Today, Peardian sends in Extra 3: More Monkey Madness from Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island (https://www.vgmaps.com/Atlas/SuperNES/index.htm#SuperMarioWorld2YoshisIsland). The first three Worlds are complete. As this game has six Worlds, that's halfway through the last game on this list!
Peardian has sent in 4-6: Lake Shore Paradise from Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island (https://www.vgmaps.com/Atlas/SuperNES/index.htm#SuperMarioWorld2YoshisIsland) today...not to mention the other stages in World 4 earlier. Didn't I mention them? Or maybe I'm thinking of the "Nintendo Power" topic...
Anyway, coincidentally, I also put up all of Veil Of Darkness (PC) today, which also includes an area called "Lake Shore". That's not Super NES-related, but I thought the "Lake Shore" thing was a neat coincidence.
Peardian sent in the last of Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island (https://www.vgmaps.com/Atlas/SuperNES/index.htm#SuperMarioWorld2YoshisIsland) today...which, though impressive on its own, also means this "Super NES Game Atlas" is now finally complete! :D
Just less than a week shy of four years ago was when this topic was first made. (I know we had some of those maps before I made this topic, though.) Has it really been that long? In any case, VGMaps.com has all of these maps up now.
Of course, there are still lots yet to be mapped from the Super NES realm. There are other franchises born in the Super NES era that weren't listed here (since the intention was to continue the NES Game Atlas). Or game franchises that became big (or bigger) during this time. And we don't yet have complete maps of these. Such as Donkey Kong Country and 2 and 3. Kirby's Dream Land 3 and Kirby: Super Star. Final Fantasy IV, V and VI, and several other RPGs. I look forward to when all of those are mapped out too.
It have just found out that there is a few noticeable but very notable differences between the SNES and the Megadrive version of the Great Circus Mystery. In the Megadrive version there is a room in Stage 3, Area 1 between the mirror room and the room of the miniboss (Pete's Portrait). That room is a quake shaking collapsing room with splintered ceilings. Area 2 which is the rotating square room is absent. Kinda interesting.
