Aleste/Power Strike (SMS)
« on: February 24, 2010, 04:31:45 pm »
I may not finish this one, but it is insanely easy to map using my autostitcher, disabling the sprite layer and hacking the game to have infinite lives; it is literally 10 minutes per map except for the palette fade at either end.

Also, it's insanely tall.

Also also, I forgot to attach it :)

And that's the whole game, by the way; it's known as Aleste in Japan and Power Strike in the West.

Over 93,000 pixels of vertical scrolling, 24 megapixels of map, in about an hour :) so that's 6600 pixels mapped per second... not bad.

[Edit: my maths was wrong]

The sequel (Power Strike II) is a bit harder to map because it has dynamic backgrounds that spawn enemies, so you have to go back through and clean them up by hand. I didn't enjoy this so much so I am less likely to carry on.

Should I assume this is a submission, then?

You don't need to email them since I've got them from this thread.

I've always preferred email because then I'm sure to see it.  I can't always be expected to be on top of every single post in these forums.

By the way, which name, Aleste or Power Strike, should I use?

EDIT: Wikipedia suggests that Aleste is the proper name for the whole series, but given my slant for (North) American naming, for this particular game I guess I'll go with Power Strike.
