I know this isn't about game mapping, but it is about the 8-bit NES and maps in general. Check this out nonetheless lol

Haha, that's great. I'm very much enjoying this. :D

Too bad city areas just end up as grass. :P

Dragon Warrior/Dragon Quest is a great choice.

Earlier someone had mapped out New York and other cities in 8-bit; I was wondering when someone would get around to applying it to an actual mapping application so it could be for anywhere at any scale.  And StreetView was amusing too, though they reduced the colours too much, IMO.  And yeah, city areas should (have) show(n) up as towns, not grass.  But even so, this was really well done!

I was busy this weekend but still managed to see this, and tried it out on Google Maps.  Is the "Quest" function still available or hidden somewhere?  It'd be nice if they kept it.  I'm sure Square-Enix wouldn't mind the attention.

Is "Peru Nazca" a meme yet?  :P

Also, interesting that they would highlight one of the lesser known features of the Famicom that the NES doesn't have...the microphone in the 2P controller.

I just checked that site with the city maps (http://8bitcity.com/map) and it actually ends up looking nicer since you can zoom in a lot more, to the point that the tiles are no longer just an abstraction and you can make out all the streets and things. Heck, you can follow all the trails in Central Park, New York for example. Google's Quest function is still very neat in that it can be used around the whole world, and they even included a number of landmarks and monuments as 8-bit sprites.
Current project:
Mega Man: Powered Up (PSP)

It seems that Google is a day early this time, if you go to maps.google.com, at least in Chrome, you can view the maps as playable Pac-Man mazes!  Wakka wakka wakka...
