Bubble Bobble on Sega Master System
« on: July 22, 2008, 04:52:46 pm »
Hey, I've just registered & I really like your site, but I've noticed there is no maps for the Sega Master System's version of Bubble Bobble, in which I'm not surprised. I've looked everywhere! Including walkthroughs. All I get is for the Arcade & the NES version of the game. There's 200 levels & I still can't get to the 200th level without using any cheats. Would any of you guys be able to know how to do this?

Bubble Bobble is an evil game, requiring special actions on certain stages to see the "real" ending. A lot of it was explained in the Japanese version and then the explanations were cut from the export release.

To get past stage 199, you need the three Sacred Mirrors. They are on stages 135, 155 and 195 and need various tricks to make them appear.

Yeah, you're right on that, but it's the only game I never get bored of. Thank you for your tips and links. I've been looking for these for years

I thought the SMS version of Bubble Bobble was identical to the Arcade Version. The only other version different to the other versions that I know of is the Commodore 64 version which has extra levels and modified levels. I will look into the SMS game and see if those differences between the SMS and Arcade versions are true. If confirmed true, I can begin mapping those levels.

I remember when I first played Alex Kidd in Miracle World, I had some trouble with the puzzle towards the end because I wasn't thinking "Japanese."  That is, entering the symbols from right to left instead of left to right.

Worse than that, it's vertical too. Something like:

I E A

J F B

  G C

  H D

...which is the traditional way to write most east asian languages anyway.

(And the puzzle *is* the end of the game.)

This looks easy, I'll take a shot at it.

Go for it Tropicon. I've given up mapping that game ages ago.

Like I said, the problem is the game. Locating all the secret rooms and getting enough items to bypass the "Loop Curse" on level 199 makes it tough. On the other hand, a level select cheat would make it easy to screengrab the start state of every room, and single-screen games are insanely easy to map.

Are you kidding?  Of course I'm cheating.  GameFAQs is good for something.

Not really, all their stuff is not SMS-specific.

Oh I see what you mean about the bonus rooms.  No clear way in and no info about them laying around.

That's a lot of rounds. Twice as many as the Arcade and NES versions I did. The way you arranged those maps are very different from mine, but if you do arrange them in a long straight vertical line like mine, you're gonna beat my tallest map and tallest-skinniest map records (See the "10000TH MAP!" topic in the Map Gab Board). Are you also going to add the enemies including Super Drunk in the rounds?

Hah!  Not a chance.  Check out the guidelines on my site and you'll see that that would fall under the "Maze" Category.  If I were to do that I'd add enemies at starting positions, bosses, each secret door, and descriptions of specific strategies, requirements, and secret acquisitions over each and every room.  If you want to see the difference between my raw maps and my mazes check out my Tales of Phantasia stuff.
