Map Gab / Xevious (Atari 7800)
« on: June 23, 2007, 01:04:32 am »
Here is yet another port of the arcade classic Xevious.  It will open a new section here.  All are already done, PNGGauntleted, and submitted.

The Atari 7800 is in the generation of consoles with the NES and Sega Master System.

Here is the scaled down version of the background map.

One weird thing about this version of Xevious is that the water in it is green, looking much like the forest.

I knew somebody just sent in the first "Q" game, but that wasn't why I mapped this game.  I don't think the caverns are called anything that I know of, so in this case, it's just "Map".  I see a few others like it too.  I didn't write the Wiki entry for this game, but if you click the discussion tab, there is a list of these clues, including the final message.

The world maps of The 7th Saga I've done (Ticondera - past and present), if left whole, would have been 17408 x 13376 and about 10 MB (un-PNGGauntleted) each.

I think I get what you mean here. Is that based off the scaled down version?

I don't know what you based your calculations on, but here's how I see it.  Each screen, not including the brown border, is 304 x 192.  The play area of the map, again not including the brown border, is 6944 x 9392  So when you divide each dimension of the map by the respective dimension of the screen, it would be about 23 screens wide and about 49 screens tall, for a total of about 1127 screens.

Thanks, TerraEsperZ.

One thing I forgot to mention.  The dimensions of this map is 7008 x 9456.

The mapping of this game is now done and submitted to JonLeung.  I ran it through PNGGauntlet and it reduced it from 2.16 MB to 686 KB for a reduction to 31% of its original size in just over a half an  hour.

Here is the scaled down version of of the map.

The fifth and last clue near the bottom reads as:

BE SWEET AND BE QUICK TO GO BACKWARD

Next to that clue is an object to grab and take back up where the game started.

Here's what you get when you get back with the object.  One more message...

When you hit return, you'll see the title screen with the final score, like this...

That is all for QuoVadis.

I just downloaded and installed the PNGGauntlet.  Before I try it, I want to ask something.  How should I set the PNGOut options?  How is yours set?
