But surely if you're a Nintendo fan, you'd recognize which "cat" it is.

Though it's not really a cat...

I might as well give it to you, since you clearly know which it is.  The game doesn't say that its name is Mechbeth (oddly similar to the planet it's on, Macbeth) so I guess most judges would accept that description.

I would've thought the first one was infamous and classic enough, though.  I saw it in a very recent IGN article, actually.

Series-wise, Inty is correct (except for his second guess of #2).

But his answer for #4, while technically correct, could use further clarification.  I suppose the problem is that its name isn't mentioned in-game...

I suppose I should've looked more carefully at #7 (as in, looking at Japanese names), or should've specified I meant English names, but I was definitely looking for Bonsly (Pok?mon XD), Munchlax (Pok?mon: Destiny Deoxys/Pok?mon Dash), and Lucario (Pok?mon: Lucario And The Mystery Of Mew) so you've got that answer.

Explain the opening to me, because I can't read Japanese.

The main character gets up.  Tries to leave his house.  His mom makes him get dressed so that he can leave now.  Talk to some old guy.  Walk over, where a friend shows you how to kick a dinosaur.  o_0

After a few kicks of the T-Rex that likes to play dead (actually, I think it's also a dash but it's like a kick when you do it right next to something), a big ant comes up.  Then you fight the ant?

Then aliens attack?  What?

Actually don't explain it, it's funnier this way.  *kicks dinosaurs*

I took a course all about Kurosawa in my last year of university.

Seven Samurai is one of the big ones.  Rashomon is fairly well-known.

I'm surprised at Revned's grasp of films.  I did, however, see Caligari.

You mean Rumble Pak (no "c"), and while it sounds like you know which game it is, this is a quiz about a specific character.

I'll admit 2 is an awkward one, but it's not Donkey Kong.

I've edited the post to show who's the first to get the right answer.

Actually it IS Crono, but the game is Chrono Trigger.

I've always wondered if people are blind when they do things like misspell things or confuse Roman numerals and numbers.  But then again I'm probably a visual person and they are textual and remember what they read, not what they see.

Gaming / Obscure Nintendo Characters Quiz

1. He's not mistaken, but insists that he is.

Inty: Error, from Zelda II: The Adventure Of Link.  He simply stands in a house and says "I am Error."

2. He wasn't published by Nintendo at first, but became a boss character in a Nintendo game.  Now he's a good guy again, or at least when he was on TV, with a slightly different name.

Inty: Lolo / Lololo / Fololo, of the Adventure Of Lolo & Kirby series

3. This Koopaling's airship has no propellors.

Revned: Wendy O. Koopa, from Super Mario Bros. 3

4. In the very first mainstream console game to feature force feedback, a special way of defeating it resulted in the largest vibration possible in the game.

Inty: Mechbeth, who is diverted into an arms factory, or some other explosive building, from planet Macbeth in Star Fox 64

5. What is the name of the character who reports no problems at the beginning of the blatantly-named sixth area of a game?

Inty: Caiman, from "Area 6" of Star Fox 64

6. What is the name of Miyamoto's dog, both in real life and in a game?

Inty: Pik, as seen in Nintendogs, and Pikmin was named after it

7. There are actually more than 386 different species of Pok?mon.  Name at least three Pok?mon that are not (or are not yet) numbered.

Inty: Bonsly, Munchlax, Lucario, various Japanese ones, from the most recent Pok?mon games and movies, also technically acceptable: the "glitch Pok?mon": Missingno. and ???

8. Adult import model Francine Dee has this creature tattooed near her nether regions.

bustin98: Mew, the original "secret Pok?mon"

9. Din is to Chattur'gha as Farore is to Xel'lotath and as Nayru is to?

Revned: Ulyaoth, from Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem - other names refer to Zelda goddesses/Oracles and the other Eternal Darkness "Ancients", corresponding by colour

10. This Hunter's name is half of the North American title of another Nintendo-published game for the same system.

Inty: Trace, from Metroid Prime: Hunters and the other game is Trace Memory, which has other names in other regions

No contest here.  Inty got 7/10.

Well, they found you.  One per line.  Tsk tsk tsk.

Now you're going to tell me that you probably spell "Game Boy" as one word, do you?  I really hate that.

3627
I play female characters in fighting games.  Probably because the game designers and game artists are mostly male, as would be gamers of this genre, they tend to make them leggy.  This usually means longer-reaching (and often impressive) kicks.  They also tend to be agile, faster, and more aerial, which helps since I tend to be offensive in fighting games.  I'm not very good at even blocking (don't even ask me to try parrying), so thankfully they're typically smaller (in certain respects) or skinnier.

I don't identify with any of them enough to choose their name as my own, though, but that's just me.

3628
If Terra is a Final Fantasy VI reference (the "Esper" part seems to confirm that), plus names that end in "a" tending to be feminine, does anyone ever think that you're a female?

There is/was a guy on GameFAQs called Celda.  (His name had nothing to do with Zelda: Wind Waker...I remember when Wind Waker's cel-dhaded style was revealed and the whole controversy erupted, he stepped into the conversation and I jokingly said, "hey, it's The Legend Of Celda", deliberately poking fun at his name.  I don't know what made him name himself that since it predated Wind Waker by quite a bit, but my own usage of that term was the first I heard of it before it became somewhat widespread.)  Anyway, they all thought Celda was a girl.

I hope the regulars aren't too bitter that they don't come back.  I know Revned signed up but hasn't said much other than that he didn't like Inty.  Understandable, he was one of the top posters (the others being mephea and myself).  mephea hasn't been posting much lately so maybe she doesn't know yet but Grizzly said he was having login issues.

Is the ".de" extension for email addresses not allowed or something?  He said it had to do with his email.

Then I'll throw in my vote for dynamic sigs, if it's not too difficult.

My concern is not so much about whether sigs are dynamic, but how big they are.  Especially if we allow for image sigs.  I hate it when a sig image is larger than the post.  You wouldn't write a letter and sign it with a signature larger than the whole letter, would you?

Of course, images relates to items, which is another series of issues altogether.  I like the idea of requiring an item for functions like images (it encourages daily posting to earn enough Gold, and also then newbies can't abuse images), but for the regulars already used to them, I may just give them the Images item.  It may not make up for the lost posts but it's something.
