Man, I don't know if I like it, but that is the official name for Nintendo's new system.

The Nintendo Wii. Check out http://revolution.nintendo.com/

I can't access the web page; WebSense blocks most gaming web sites at work.

If it's for real, can you post a screenshot (or a link to a screenshot) of it?

How do you pronounce that, anyway?  "Whee?"  "Why?"

I much prefer "Revolution".

EDIT: Apparently it's pronounced "we".

If it's on the Nintendo site at all, I'm pretty sure I can't see it until I get home.

I hear the flash animation is pretty cool, though.  :(

A lot of negativity about the name wherever I can read about it right now...but if their showing at E3 is awesome, it shouldn't matter much in the end.

English: slang for piss, sounds like "whee"/"we".

French: sounds like "yes".

German: sounds like V, Roman for 5 (as in, fifth console)

Weird, someone was talking about the Nintendo V on Revolution Report a couple days ago.  Looks like Revolution Report is going to change their name, too.

In Japanese "ii" = "good".

The animation is slick in the movie. Seems like they are still pushing people to get in groups of 4 to play in one location. Nintendo just needs to realize that online play should be the focus of multiplayer, not multiple controllers on one system.

I made a poll about it (happy, Inty?) about whether or not people here like it.

It's all about the games.  Yeah, the name doesn't give a good first impression to six-year-olds and British people who don't want to say "I'm going to play with my Wii" but it'll be their loss.

Thraxian

First the Pentium VIIV (pronounced vive, rhymes with five), and now Nintendo Wii.  What next?

Why can't manufacturers come up with English words to describe their products, and not these stupid character sequences with dual meanings?

Nintendo Revolution sounded cool.  As in: "I'm going to go home and play my Rev!"

Nintendo Wii?  I don't know if I want to admit to having one of those.  "Want to get together and play some Wheee?"

By introducing a name like Revolution, and not using it, isn't Nintendo setting themselves up for a competitor to come along and use it.  Since Nintendo didn't use the name "Revolution", I'm just waiting for the "Microsoft Revolution", or the "Sony Revolution" to hit the shelves and take off running.  Heck, even the "Intellivision Revolution" or "Atari Revolution" sounds better than the "Nintendo Wii".

Wii? My god. Can you imagine the confusion it'll cause when people say it in real life? "We play Wii a lot." Now if it were an acronym, that'd be better, but it's actually supposed to be "we." I'm tempted to call it the Revolution instead.

Inty

It's system suicide.

I liked "Dolphin" better than GameCube too.

Inty

BRB, i'm just going for a quick Wii.

"Want to play with my Wii?"

When pronounced with Nintendo, you get "Nintendo Wii", which actually sounds like "Nintendo-E", or if you say "NWii" it sounds like "envy", but with a W.

Very odd.

I can't say I love it, I can still say I prefer the Revolution, but hey - Nintendo's gotten a lot of press today with this controversial title.  And if the Wii is as fun to play as it is embarassing to say, no one will care about the name.

Most people call Nintendo consoles the "Nintendo" anyway.

Though it invites flaming, "PlayStation" sounds really kiddy if you think about it.  "Play station".  A station for play.  Ick.

At least I won't see "Rev" all over the place now ;)

JonLeung

"Rev's still fun to play with, even if it's now really Wii."  >_>
