I'll try, but the issue is that my main computer for VGMaps.com updates is having fan issues and has shut down a few times in the past little while because of overheating ("thermal events").  I don't want to risk further damage to the machine so I'll try and get it into a shop today.

I have another two computers, but one isn't very good for updating due to lack of resources, and the other one has Windows Vista on it which I haven't taken the effort to work around how to use.  I really should downgrade to XP or upgrade to 7 but I'm lazy.

The guy at the computer shp said it should be a quick fix even if he has to replace the fans and reapply thermal paste so maybe updates won't be affected by more than a few hours, or will just be on Sunday, but we'll see.

Personally, computer hardware repair and maintenance is usually fun, unless it's your own machine, in which case it becomes nerve-wracking  Sad

Do not, under any circumstances, mention this to people you know IRL...

No kidding. A few weeks ago my aunt called me late at night so I could try to fix her printer over the phone  :-(

In the sense that I will become the obligatory "go to" guy for their repair needs? Since my whole family and all my friends know I'm an IT technician, that's already the case. However, living in another city away from most of them means that they have to handle things by themselves Grin. I only make exceptions for my parents, my sister and my grandfather.

The funny thing is that I haven't worked in software aside from personal tinkering for most of the last decade and yet, everyone assumes I can fix anything, pretty much like some people assume nurses can diagnose everything that's medically wrong with them.

Some people assume I have the capability to fix errors, bugs and computer crashes, because I am advancing my studies at Computer Academy and am able to install multiple operating systems on one computer and switch between them. There's a lot of over estimation for people's capabilities it seems.

Do you think this weekend is going to be different from the last? If the site has to go another week without updates, I think I'll take a break and try a bit of gameplaying.
