Yeah, but anyone with a hex editor can get to your "hidden" file in about 5 seconds.

that's kinda cool. what could this be used for? bombing someone with virii?

Probably not. It's just using an image file to cover up a .RAR file. I imagine it could even fool CompuPic Pro (though I did once see a .ZIP that seemed to appear as a .GIF somehow).

I'm not really sure how someone could get into your file; they'd have to first suspect that something's wrong with the .JPG. I suppose if you stored some big files, then the .JPG would appear really large and that could be suspicious. If you're going to store a small text file (maybe a few passwords? Not that I would recommend that) it could work all right, I think.

The cool thing is that no one would suspect you hiding text files in a jpeg. It might look suspicious if the file size was huge and the image was of a small resolution.

But this is neat. I would have never thought to look in a jpeg for extra files.

I used to send small files to people via ImageShack, by renaming them to have an extension of an image file. Then ImageShack changed it so that the file would actually have to be an image, and not just by name.

I wonder if this could work in doing that again.

Security through obscurity is certainly a valid method, but it's also a very week one.
