Apologies to everyone looking forward to an update this weekend.

Nothing too serious, it's really just two issues...time and space, literally.

I'll let you ponder that for now...I'll probably add the details about this weekend to this post later today at work.

(I will still try to put up the July Map Of The Month at least, though it's ironic since I knew what it would be for this month since last year.  It's the 7th month of the 7th year of this millenium, so it should be pretty obvious.  *coughKingKurosSuperNESRPGcough*  Doesn't hurt if you guys know what it is right now, it should hopefully make up for the fact that it will probably be mid-afternoon on July 1st when I can get to it.)

EDIT: As I mentioned, I may have difficulties updating this weekend because of time and space.  Or rather, the lack of them.

"Time" being that things came up, including things I really have to attend in the evenings and busyness at work - we have a long weekend for Canada Day, but "we" doesn't include me - I have to work Saturday and Monday.  As you know, I do go to church now, so if there is an update, it will be Sunday afternoon.  It's then or never this weekend.  VGMaps.com is important enough to me but I don't think you guys will kill me if I miss an update.

"Space" is just that - I didn't complete my update last week because I have run out of my alloted space.  I have asked my host for an expansion to two gigs but they haven't gotten back to me yet.  Unfortunately that will ultimately decide if I can update.  I suppose that out of necessity I could weed out the "Other Stuff" section and other stuff I've deemed unnecessary, but I still do definitely need more space soon, as all the file clean-up and file optimization I might be able to do simply won't work forever, or even for very long at all.

So, there we go.  Apologies to JWJ for not getting his Looney Tunes Collector: Alert! (GBC) maps up last week, and maybe not even this week, as well as Stakkato (more Air Fortress (NES) maps, I think), and whoever else sent me maps this week.  KingKuros gets more apologies, as he sent in maps to open up a new section last week, as well as the fact that he may lose about half a day of honour for his Maps Of The Month for the 7th month of the year.  Quite the saga of sorriness I have here.

Anyway, I really should get back to work at my real job; that's what I came here on a Saturday for.  It's a shame I can't really update from here...

I'm not bothered about the updates really... but, I would like to know, what link do the maps have to do with the 7th month of the 7th year of this millennium?

I know you wrote your post before I updated my first one, TUK (can I call you that?), so you may not have seen the clues that I put there that by now should make it obvious...

The Map Of The Month for July 2007 are KingKuros's The 7th Saga (Super NES) maps!

I had planned to honour it a lot earlier, like last year, but I mentioned to KingKuros that I'd like to put it on the 7th month of '07 and he didn't mind.

Earlier, I gave dammit9x's Final Fantasy Legend III maps the honour without finding a way to tie it to the month of May.  I have plenty of maps to honour, but it's making less sense to wait for some kind of reason to tie them thematically to a certain month.  The MotM selection process may need a revamp at some point.

I have been tossing ideas around my head for how to better use that second space on the front page (the one for the "Features").  I can use it to point out other things on the site, certain forum topics, random mapping tips, another random map link, and also links to maps for popular games or series that may or may not be MotMs.  That might help.  But I need time to think up and make some of these "feature" link images, after I find or make the time to put up the weekly submissions and etc.

Regarding the space issue: recent versions of PNGOut do automatic colour depth reduction (24bpp -> 8bpp -> 4bpp), and the version you used on the Great PNG Optimisation probably didn't. It might gain you a few megs here and there.

Even if there was a "Great PNG Optimization Part Deux", I don't think the results would be as profound as the first time around.  And with the decent-sized weekly submissions now along with the recent fad to send in ginormous maps, it wouldn't buy me that much time.

Well, I could be wrong, but at some point I will need more space anyway.  Would be nice if someone could get back to me on that soon...
