I did a little of the SNES  Popfulmail, but  since it is in (J) and no one is planing on translating it :( I stopped.

Maps In Progress / what do you do if you can't complete?
« on: July 21, 2013, 06:38:26 am »
Sometimes there are maps you you just can't fully complete because the emulation is not 100% (for the graphics)or layers are missing and you just can't fined or get to some areas.
Do you abandon the project or complete what you can and update it some day when your able to?

Gaming / Hiden & unseen parts in maps
« on: July 08, 2013, 07:36:41 am »
In some games that I have mapped I have seen parts that you could never see when playing the game. Take for instance Astyanax arcade. there are places you can only see when entering the map file in MAME (as well as other games).
Why do they make art work that is never seen?
And some games have unseen areas beyond the screens borders like Tiger Road and the Ninja Warriors(game ress is 864 but 960 is the size of the intro)
Is there a difference what the system outputs and what is rendered internally?

Mined you this is only arcade games I'm taking about I don't know if its also the same for PCs and counsels.

Maps In Progress / completing projects
« on: June 04, 2013, 08:05:07 am »
I don't know what the rules here are so I have a question.

I would like to know if it OK to complete a project that was started by someone ells or should I ask that person for permission first?

Also what if some one calls dibs on some games but does nothing for a long time. Can you map those game that have bin called upon by others?

Mapping Tips/Guides / how best to map LAYERS?
« on: May 31, 2013, 06:48:17 am »
Games with a lot of parallax scrolling layers are a bit of a problem to map because some payers are bigger than others and they don't aline properly as well as some just completely cover other layer so you cant see them at all so...
Whats the best way to deal with them?
Keep the layers separate? Crop and adjust them to fit so they look like how it is when you play the game? a little of both?
How would you handle it?

Is anyone ells doing Alundra? I have mapped the game up to Magyscar.
My main motivation for mapping it was to get all the items in the game (some thing I was never able to do before)

VGMaps Social Board / New to forum Introduscions
« on: January 29, 2013, 09:28:14 am »
Hi, I'm a new member but contributor for awhile now. My name is George or George s as you have seen on my maps compiler/creator name ( GHS is my initials, not a nickname).
I have bin mapping for some time now and putting them up on VGMaps (over 2 years i think), but just now I decided to join the forum. ??? :P (should have done it sooner)
Even before VGMaps I was doing hand drawn maps of games (one of them is Darkmere at gamewinners.com) way back in the 8 and 16-bit era (mostly dungeon crawlers).
My fascination with game maps started with the maps in video game magazines like Nintendo Power and EGM.
What I'm hoping to get out of VGMaps is help and support in doing maps more efficiently and translating other languages in games (like items and areas) to English.
I'm into action adventure games with a little RPG elements to it whether its side, top or 3D but I like the aesthetic look of 2D isometric games (sometimes 3D, if the art is good).

So that's it. I hope all goes well here for me and thanks for your time.  :)
