That was a really sad movie. Thinking about that poor bird who spent all its life creating an artificial landscape just for that one moment to get an idea of the ability to fly.. I had to pause my work for one minute.

You can also see it another way... Our kiwi protagonist was probably told that he would never fly all his life. Only, he decides to do something about it. Instead of spending his entire life like other kiwis just walking around and eating stuff, he decides to pursue his dream. In the end, he managed what no other kiwi ever did before him: he  flew, and he died happy.
