Mapping Tips/Guides / Filling in maps?
« on: July 26, 2012, 12:13:36 pm »
OK, so here's a pretty much complete map of the level of Deck Trek from Donkey Kong Land (no items or enemies, just the stage itself):
http://i391.photobucket.com/albums/oo360/TheUltimateKoopa/1-4-DeckTrek.png

This was easy to 'fill in' the gaps. But what about this? (Reef Rampage):

It's not really that small, photoshop just made it smaller since it was 13.1 MB, and it's set to a limit of 1 MB (and the Deck Trek was less than 1 MB, since I had edited it, and saved as a PNG. I think the original file was a BMP, hence the much larger file size).

But the point is, you can clearly see the gaps.

My question is basically ... what's the easiest way of filling in the gaps (with coral)? If I was to make it accurate?

And for anyone wondering:
VBA re-recording was used. I went through the stages, trying to get as many places as I could, while not rolling off platforms to try and get normally out of reach areas, as this was easily done by copying and pasting after.

I then, played the movie back, but with the object layer off, and simultaneously outputted as an AVI (full frames)

I then used VirtualDub to extract each frame.

I then used Maxim's Screenshot Autostitcher 0.7

I then (with Deck Trek anyhow) used Paint (yay!) to just fill in the gaps by copying parts of the pole things and filling them in.

As I said, the poles are easy, but the coral it's very hard to figure out when the texture 'starts' and 'ends' if that makes sense.

Map Gab / Mario Kart DS maps?
« on: February 08, 2010, 08:35:09 am »
OK, so I'm a little confused. Basically, the main news mentions that maps for this game have been revised, but to me they don't look any different to what they were say, a week ago, when they were revised. What's new in the recent (about 2 days ago) revision of Mario Kart DS maps, as opposed to the revision from some time last month? I saw the newer maps, that Piranhaplant did which did not have the shots of the actual stages from an angle in a small area on the main map, but that was January, I think.

I was thinking it'd probably be helpful if the maps showed which pipes you can go down (some are obvious, but some aren't, for example Pumpkin Zone 3 and Pumpkin Zone 4), and also which enemies do NOT appear in "Easy Mode".

So, only yesterday these 2 games were announced at E3 '09. And, I have just one word that describes both games at once. COOL!

So, discuss what you think. SMG2 is scheduled for a 2010, but NSMBWii is scheduled for Holiday 2009.

I remember going to this website at least 3 or 4 years ago. I can't remember anything about what it was called or the URL, but I SWEAR it had a name similar to this "Video Game Atlas". All I remember about it was that it had Wario Land 2 maps of the first 8 stages (up to "Get In The Teacup"). I could've sworn it was something like GeoCities that hosted it, but the only GeoCities videogame maps website I know isn't the one I'm looking for. The Wario Land 2 maps were listed with something along the lines of:

Level 1

Level 2

Level 3

Level 4

Level 5

Level 6

Level 7

Level 8

with each one linking to the map (it may have said "Stage #" or "Area #" instead of "Level #").

I've only done the 4th level "Go Down To The Cellar", and only the first 3 rooms, of it.

All the coins and blocks are present, however, there are about 3 or 4 very small places where it's about 1 pixel out of line ... also, obviously, I need to add the sprites and stuff.

Here's what I've done so far:

Map Gab / Donkey Kong Country GBA World Maps
« on: June 11, 2008, 05:06:00 pm »
I tried to have a go at mapping the entire map of the first world (Kongo Jungle), using the "Map Viewer" on VisualBoy Advance ... which unfortunately jumbles the map around, meaning I have to select bits, and move it to the bottom, since a bit of the bottom is at the top, and a bit of the left is at the right, etc. ... here's a little bit of what it's done, however it's no where near complete because I'm having a bit of trouble with the assembling part -- also, note that it's got bits of garbage which I don't understand somewhere in the picture as well...

http://h1.ripway.com/ukmidis/map3.PNG

as you can see, in the actual map part, down in the bottom-left corner, you can see it doesn't seem to "match" at all ... if I was to provide the un-assembled sections? Would it be possible for another more experienced mapper to not do, but just finish this? If that's not possible then, that's bad <_<

Map Gab / Super Mario World

You know those maps in the archive from Stefan Mahrla (sp?)? I was trying to make maps of a Super Mario World hack, by using the "Export Level to Bitmap" on Lunar Magic (a Super Mario World Editor) -- this is just for fun, and I'm not actually submitting it here (mostly because it's not a real game) .. but I was wondering, what is the best way to "arrange" the different individual "levels" for each whole ... "level"? You know like when you go down pipes, you go into different rooms? Of course, just lining up the entry pipe of one room with the exit pipe of teh room you came from, wouldn't be good, since the level may overlap part of the other level. You probably don't understand what I mean but ... <_<

An old joke, I know. Anyway, I've set up a forum. We'll see what happens in 30 days. If it's not popular, I may close it for a while. This will be a good place to request maps that can be put up on our site. So, go post! Also, don't forget about the Poll.

^^ remember that, Jon?

Are there any pictures of the courses that show the entire course? (Like for Double Dash, there's some pictures on the internet somewhere, that show the entire coloured course in one)?

<_< is it only members of a certain userlevel that can access board #250, or only mods and/or admins or something? Or is it something that you have to exchange a certain amount of gold for or whatever?

How exactly do you insert images into posts, or thumbnails like in the Micro Machines 2 topic in Maps in Progress?
