Map Gab / ( SNES ) - The Legend of the Mystical Ninja
« on: August 16, 2017, 10:16:50 am »
Hey guys/gals!

I'm officially now working on Mystical Ninja maps. Also there are a few posted already by KindarSpirit but there wasn't an official Ninja thread.

I've reached out/emailed KindarSpirit but I see no account of him/her listed in Members list. The three maps posted are actually a tad inaccurate/missing areas or wrong BG as I've found. I remember elsewhere on here someone mentioned their incomplete Chrono Trigger map.. I was to ask if I could edit/add to the three current Warlock Zone maps that were posted. So it's been since 2008 those maps were posted and so-far no sigh of KindarSpirit. I have added/edited and remapped some of those areas and was working on Warlock Zone II. The design of the maps are now a bit more elegant and fun. I've used grid based representation as usual and kept an eye out for detail.

So anyone heard from KindarSpirit and if not is it fair game? I just want to make sure things are kosher and cool with it all. Don't want no huge flames! =)

Of course I'll keep him/her in the credits for those three maps. Those current three maps can remain posted and just add the edited ones. I'm almost ready to start Warlock Zone III so will begin the new undone maps.

Meanwhile I'll work on maps...

Map Gab / ( Genesis ) Castle of Illusion: Staring Mickey Mouse
« on: August 05, 2017, 02:59:48 pm »
So here it is. The Mickey Mouse thread for the Genesis version of Castle of Illusion.

I'll start by asking if I should include the BG in each map or l eave it, or submit both a BG version and a noBG version?

The maps are pretty easy to make out but sometimes the BG blends too much into the tileset layer. Like the forest.

Here is those maps - Practice Level 1-3

Enchanted Forest - NoBG - BG

Toyland - NoBG - BG

https://www.dropbox.com/s/b0iq45hjdf7hbpb/98b_CastleofillusionStaringMickeyMouse-Practice-ToyLand-LV2-BG.png?dl=0

The Storm - NoBG - BG

https://www.dropbox.com/s/uhmvvgfcjvbyb4r/99b_CastleofillusionStaringMickeyMouse-Practice-TheStorm-LV3-BG.png?dl=0

Those are all complete.

I also have The entire Enchanted Forest Level complete which includes the remaining 3 areas/stages of it plus the boss for a total of 4 areas. I'm thinking each level has 4 areas but will find out.

There are plenty more maps to do so I'll check back soon!

Thanks!

Maps In Progress / ( NES ) - Hudson's Adventure Island 1
« on: December 27, 2015, 11:45:54 am »
The first time I played this game was back in 1988 at a friends place that another buddy and I hung out with. We started taking turns, alternating between the three of us. The host of our stay over was a guy who had issues. Still does... Haven't seen him in over 15 years but the other buddy and he lived together and now they might hate each other...  Anyway we started playing about 5pm at night... When someone died, or passed a level we would relay off the controller. It was now about 4:30 am and we just got to level 8-1! =D Damn hard game.

We were all hype.. The friend with issues was at play.. He was so frustrated at the difficulty, as was myself and our other buddy but not the way he was... I thought for sure we were gonna beat the game... Heck no.. The next thing you know, he got a wild hair when he killed off Master Higgins! He then slung the controller across the room plugged in and it hit the wall, console and all! We had no power.. then we had blinking.. DAMN IT! That was very upsetting I literally almost cried.. HEH.. What a baby.. Stupid guy.

Anyway that is the story of Adventure Island and my good ol days! That was the last time I played Adventure Island until last year around this time when I thought about mapping it. I never did. There are no maps for AI anywhere on the web.. Guess the game is too frustrating. Only with Game Genie codes will it be possible to relax and map the game. I'll use Game Genie codes up until level 8 to get back the levels we lost a long time ago in a galaxy far... farrrr away!

Here is the first Round and First Secret Round of Adventure Island. I'll be trying to make minimal maps mapping just the basic and filled maps.

The "minimal" maps will include just a clean mapout of the actual areas of the game that you see with no objects etc.., just the tileset landscape. No spoilers perhaps you could call it.

The "full/filled" version will have extra mapping filling in the areas you can't see and will include rocks, eggs, secret areas.. Similar to what Will and Blublu did with Duck Tales.

One good thing I've noticed is that there are some levels that by design are pretty much exactly the same level but with slight alterations. The forest levels for example and the cave levels. This makes things a lot easier than having to remapp the entire level. I can just change it's colors and add or remove the rock and fire and platform objects.. Stage 1-1 and 4-1 have the exact same forest level just that the placement of rocks, fires and platforms are altered! Easy... Er... Considering the fact that these levels are quite long.

Area 1 Round 1 - Full

Maps In Progress / NES - Low G Man
« on: December 26, 2015, 09:45:20 pm »
Yo-lah everyone! Hope all had a nice Christmas. As a late Christmas present I have completed all the maps now for Low G Man and I bring tidings! I'll ship them off to Jon asap.

Back Story:
The first time I played LGM was back in 1994 when we didn't have much of an internet. I actually played through the game all three times and beat it back then, recording it on my VHS =D! I bought it at Wal-Mart and got it out of the bargain bin back then. Not a too popular game sought out by many but it only cost $7 Brand new Factory sealed and there were at least 8 copies in there..

I should have bought a couple of them. Had I known how rare and collective some NES games or any old-school game for that matter and how expensive they could be these days I would have never gotten rid of my 30-40 complete near mint condition NES games I had back in the day. BUT my rent came due and I lost my job.. I was only 21! Now I'm 43.. Doh!! Anyway, that's my Low G Man connection and I'm sticking to it!
------------------------------
Onward... Until the finally completed maps for Low G Man are posted and find their way to the main site and moved to Map Gab I'll post here a few maps. Here is the first levels maps. There are a total of 20 levels. Stage 1-5 each with 2-4 levels and two hidden areas. Actually there are 3 additional hidden bonus areas besides the secret levels and I've marked them on the maps.

Level 1-1 ( Iron Nail)

Level 1-2 (Manufacturing Zone)

Level 1-3 (Boss - Metal Head)

The "Fetching Preview..." problem is still around.

VGMaps Social Board / Satoru Iwata (Iwata San) Passed away
« on: July 13, 2015, 01:40:18 pm »
Saturday July 11th Nintendo's CEO and President of Nintendo of America passed away of a bile duct growth in his body. A form of Cancer. Perhaps a lot of you guys are up to speed about it. He's been in the game industry since 1989 and had a direct hand in games like Kirby's Adventure, Earthbound and many other things.

So I share my condolences for all the good things he left behind to bring us joy!

I myself have had 4 people pass away in my family area over the past 5 years and I sympothize with his family at home and all his friends. He was a nice individual and a lot of people respected him if my observations do not lead me astray.

R.I.P Iwata San

Here is the official Notification of death.

Maps In Progress / SEGA / MEGADRIVE - King Colossus ( J )
« on: January 18, 2015, 09:16:07 am »
King Colossus (J) Eng Trans by M.I.J.E.T - MAPS

So here it is... I have 4 maps done including the in-game map.

This game reminds me quite a lot (at first and still a bit now...) of Lagoon for SFC SNES. (Lagoon didn't get very much respect...)

King Colossus is quite nice. The short attacking distance of the Hero is very similar to Lagoons but you start off with several spells you can cast and you get weapon upgrades. The game has some nice music and the GFX are appealing, and mapping it isn't too difficult. Most rooms so far are vertical up/down and it's pretty easy to map and once I get a feel for it I'll acquire a nice technique.

I'll try and keep the maps unpopulated from monsters aside from the main enemy bosses and actors to keep it clean. I've posted the four maps here but will upload to my Drop box for the remainder. I may change the current maps if it's needed but I've not seen any reason to go back to previous maps aside from Ganant's Place.

Anyway, here is the jist of things.

VGMaps Social Board / Holiday Greets
« on: December 26, 2014, 04:53:48 pm »
Hope everyone had or are having a safe holiday. It's almost the new year and hopefully some new good tidings will become of it. So drive safe either on yur bikes, skateboards, cars or feet.. and maybe even a train... Hmm, kinda hard to be safe when someone else is driving...! =D

Carry on fellow gamers and mappers alike! Have a wonderful day/night!

VGMaps Social Board / My Game - A Few Maps of it
« on: December 07, 2014, 05:41:55 pm »
Here are a few sample maps from one of the few games I designed a bit back using Stencyl works / Stency. It has a nice funtion allowing you to snapdhot the entire map you have made for the game's level.. Too bad we don't have something like this to map other games with.

Each of the stages had 3 sections and 1 boss room. 3 stages total.

Cavern 1b (some enable/disable laying added in the game hence the coins inside the walls)

Cavern 1c (this stage was designed so the player had to roll down the ledge, gain speed then let go of the keys and just jump while steady rolling fast and prevent theirself from hitting anything. Player could stop rolling but there was no other way to make it through.

Inferno 1 (this is the last stage of the game but never finished making the game. I was about 98% done with the entire game though.) YES both the BG's had paralax scrolling AND animation, and the FG lava has animation as well.

This is mapping my own game 101.. Extremely fast.

Map Gab / NES - Lagrange Point (Eng)
« on: December 02, 2014, 06:01:42 pm »
I've started this game's maps but it will be a while before I finish I assume. Not sure how long the game is. It's pretty cool game. It's too bad we never got it over in the states or outside Japan.

The first two town maps and area are done. I can add to those once I open up some other areas of the game as there is no current access yet. I'm still working on the layout but I just might have it.

Map 1 - Isis City
https://www.dropbox.com/s/d54ku5m58n3uxdy/01_LagrangePoint-Land1-IsisCity%28J%29.png?dl=0

Map 2 - Vesta 1 AND 2 Mining Asteroids (complete..)
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/8790902/maps_lagrange/02_LagrangePoint-Land1-Vesta1n2MiningAsteroid(J).png

Map 2 - Fiber City
https://www.dropbox.com/s/h0pp34p0pmx9yw2/04_LagrangePoint-Land1-FiberCity%28J%29.png?dl=0

Map 3 (Land 1 Outside - Finished)
https://www.dropbox.com/s/7auky48jndq11tj/00_LagrangePoint-Land1-OutterArea1%28J%29.png?dl=0

I've mapped out all I can for the Outside until I gain access to a new mobile device. So I'll be playing for a bit. The enemies in each area are also available. The idea is to get as close to an FAQ/Map as I can and keep it at a quick reference and not stray too far away from the original concept of the Map idea.

I'll update some. Let me know your thoughts. Gotta get back to the game.. Very fun! =D

EDIT
Updated Land1 Overhead map and Vesta Maps

Map Gab / NES - Code Name - Viper
« on: November 13, 2014, 03:07:54 pm »
It has started. I searched the world.... wide web over but to no avail did I find any maps for C:N:V. So, I'mma make some! Here is level 1 The Jungle. Let me know what needs to be added to the layout design, OR even removed. Just wanna make sure it's clean and readable so anyone who might use them can smile happy that the map was helpful!

I may place the tougher style bad guys on the map where they are in the game. Like some tougher guys will be in the same spot all the time, most of the other villains are just randomly coming out of nowhere to kill you.

Yes - No?

So here is the Jungle Sample (Level 1)
Make your way through each level rescuing hostages and finding your comrade who is hiding so he can give you something to clear the level with.

VGMaps Social Board / Massive Thanks!
« on: November 02, 2014, 08:58:29 pm »
This is just a quick post to show my appreciation to any and all of you guys who have done maps for Vgmaps. Over the last 3-4 years I've used maps from here to play and enjoy games I never played before. It's a lot of work to make these maps.

So here is a THANKS for the effort and work put into VGMaps! If your map has shown up in the Maps of the Month section then Kudos! It's well deserved.

At any rate, game on folks, and don't get lost!

Cheers!

Map Gab / NES - Felix the Cat
« on: November 02, 2014, 08:26:34 pm »
Finally! I completed the game in normal Gameplay, and then finished making the maps using Game Genie codes otherwise it would have been very difficult to map.

After much procrastinating, and anything else in the way, here is the official Felix the Cat thread. I'm only going to include the first stage maps 1-1 to 1-3 just to give an idea.

I have two versions of each map here. This is the map design I came up with. There are a total of 23 stages in the game. Each stage has a uniform design so to speak. Stage 1 Round 1, 2, 3 ect..

1 - Full map with pickups and secrets indicated on the map with spoilers.
2 - Map only with no secrets just the map itself. This version is nicer looking considering there are no objects on the map making it easier to understand the map.

STAGE 1 - 1 ( Sample WITH Spoilers )
https://www.dropbox.com/s/gjtdjwh6bxiyrvg/01_FelixTheCat_stage-1-1.png?dl=0

STAGE 1 - 1 (Sample WITHOUT Spoilers )
https://www.dropbox.com/s/7gtz2428ean2r8i/01_FelixTheCat_stage-1-1_noSpoils.png?dl=0

STAGE 1 - 2 (Sample WITH Spoilers )
https://www.dropbox.com/s/iv9z8c7r41gs5ej/01_FelixTheCat_stage-1-2.png?dl=0

STAGE 1 - 2 (Sample WITHOUT Spoilers )
https://www.dropbox.com/s/cvj7a61zdhb81vh/01_FelixTheCat_stage-1-2_noSpoils.png?dl=0

STAGE 1 - 3 (Sample WITH Spoilers )
https://www.dropbox.com/s/y89neqzhvu7rvj1/01_FelixTheCat_stage-1-3.png?dl=0

STAGE 1 - 3 (Sample WITHOUT Spoilers )
https://www.dropbox.com/s/7dl1qjkt4wy2i44/01_FelixTheCat_stage-1-3_noSpoils.png?dl=0

I'll submit the maps. I just wanted to at least get something in the map section on the game.

BTW: On Stage 1 Round 3 there are a set of pickups that I could not figure out how to grab by normal game play means. I even searched for a while on the web but to no avail. I am just curious as to whether or not these pickups are just there to tease you... It's very boggling.

Anyone have a clue ?

VGMaps Social Board / Mega Man 4 Graph - ix
« on: August 11, 2014, 08:24:08 pm »
This is just a little something I was into a while back. A Mega Man 4 Graph - Fix Game Maker project. I re-hanced into the 16bit style 4 (but didn't finish any of the other) tilesets as I wanted to make Mega Man 4,5 and 6 in the vein of Wiley Wars. My programming skills were lacking so I lost interest.

Here is a demo that mostly includes just running through the levels to test the maps out using the 16 remade tilesets. My personal and proudest level is the Toad Man's Level.

Pharoa Man's level is playable with at least 2 pickups in it that don't do anything other than let you run through the 16 style of Mega Man 4. Pharaoa Man's Den and he himself is in there.
Ring Man's level isnt playable but you can start the level.
Toad Mans level was mapped out all the way to the end but no boss.

Skull Man's tileset is complete as well. I've added at least two nice scrolling BG's to all 4 of those levels. (4 including Skull man') Basically you're just running through site seeing. :)

This came to mind to as am in the Process of replicating toad Man's level using the 16 style tilesets to post as a VGMap spoof level similar to the Kid Ikarus Spoof Game delima from way back.

I think I gave up this project a ways back due to lack of GM knowledge and interest. Since it's copyrighted material from Capcom and I just wanted to see something like Wily Wars 1 part 2 which include enhanced remakes of MM4, 5 and 6 as well, I somehow feel I'm doing something wrong even though the enhancement is my own. :( Too bad we lost the Anniversary GB edition of Mega Man. That would have been the bomb!

At any rate, feel free to play/run through the levels to see what I did get done. Maybe a spark of interest will befall me in the future. I'd need some motivation, a programmer and some help.

It's a Rar file with the GM executable in it. I did the same thing for Mario INSPIRED Tilesets. I created all those from scratch. I have also included those which I can say for certain are 100% my own creation. There are lots of them. Each including 3 scrolling BG's!

Enjoy and ket me know how your Sight Seeing went! : D

12MB - RAR

It would help iffin' I posted a link. If not allowed just inform me.

Gaming / YOUR Favorite Three NES Games
« on: March 25, 2014, 11:29:31 pm »
This is something that may grab your interest... Or maybe not. Who knows. Anyway....

I'm gonna list here my 3 favorite NES games, and give a brief description why. If anyone else wishes to add in, feel free to do so. Perhaps I'll start a new thread for Snes / Master System and Genesis next. Could put all 4 here but would be too much to take in for one post. Not that I wouldn't like to Raise the Brand. : P

There is of course many more favorite games but the ones I mention here have been completed at least 3 times from begining to end. Ever wondered why you find yourself playing a game you've beaten before again and again knowing there are countless games out there that could ALSO be your favorite that you haven't played yet, or know even exists? That's what a favorite game is.

NES
1 - Dragon Warrior
  • I've always loved the sound effects in the 8 Bit Dragon Warrior series. The tremendous blow effect had me at "chewww-eat! And then the contact! BAM! Good Bye Metal slime! But it's true. The game was simple and fun and the wandering around to level up waiting to see if and what spell you would get next. Good times!

2 - Bionic Commando
  • The sound effects in this game as well were very well chosen. The swinging around, the grappling onto things sounds. This game can be finished quite quickly if you are skilled enough. Under an hour. The fast pace of this game will keep you busy and it was very fun swinging around trying to land on solid ground. It was and still is fun. Kinda, sort a' like an action RPG with the life up's system and the upgrades. More good times. I even have bought a copy of Rearmed. That one was tougher but not bad a - tall.

3 - Zelda II - The Adventures of Link
  • Believe it or not, even though it's not much more fun to me than the original Zelda, Adventures of Link is one of my favorites. Mostly because way too many people didn't like it as much as the original Zelda due to it's change of style. I like being able to level up and find secret caves in the marsh, or under a rock to find myself with new Side - View camera action levels. The UP attack and DOWN attack skills were awesome and it gave you a different way to battle as you progressed. Still, even more good times!

It's kinda difficult to tell for sure as there are many games that hold a spot in my heart.. (sigh..) to know for sure which are really my favorites. Mega Man, Ninja Gaiden, Blaster Master... Grr. So many! Sorry if the brief descriptions given here were not brief enough.

Carry On!
